Owl City is the musical brainchild of Adam Young, who launched the project in 2007 while living at his parents' home in Owatonna, Minnesota. Troubled by insomnia, Young began spending his evenings in the household basement, where a computer and several instruments provided a diversion from his sleeping patterns. He eventually combined those diversions into a blend of electronica and emo-pop, using little more than his computer and various keyboards to record the material. Songs were uploaded to MySpace upon completion, and Young began attracting a surprising amount of attention on the networking site. Of particular note was "Hello Seattle," a fabricated ode to the Emerald City whose viral popularity earned Young a record contract with Universal Republic.
Ocean Eyes, his first album for the label, was released in 2009, coinciding with the launch of Owl City's first national tour. While on the road, Young watched as "Fireflies" became one of the year's most popular singles, eventually topping the charts in several countries (including the U.S.) and selling more than three million copies. A deluxe edition of the album appeared in 2010, featuring seven bonus tracks as well as the original track list, and Universal Records capitalized on the buzz by also reissuing Maybe I'm Dreaming and Of June, both of which had been self-released several years earlier. An Airplane Carried Me to Bed, an album of acoustic pop songs that predated the Owl City project, followed in 2010. Technically a side project, the album was released under a different moniker, Sky Sailing. Young returned to Owl City in 2011 with All Things Bright and Beautiful, his first collection of new material in years. ~ Andrew Leahey, Rovi

Let's get the cons out of the way... Adam only plays 14 songs. He was pitchy. Maybe he always is. Maybe it was that this was the last show of the tour and his voice was a little worn. Anyway... The pros: Adam plays 14 full or extended songs. Their are no shortened numbers. Cave In, the opener, is around 8 minutes of heavy pop exuberance. Adam brings full on energy and emotion to every song. Last show of the tour and time to phone it in? Nope. He's running around, switching instruments, looping licks and riffs and standing on equipment. His two touring members are enjoying the act as well. They're more stationary, but they look like they're enjoying the gig just as much as Adam. Finally, this is a family-friendly show. My son got into Owl City around 6 years of age. Can't think of a better band to latch onto. Adam sang his ode to his first job at a grocery store, songs about resilience, songs about feeling awkward but still stepping up. Great themes, great energy, a good time! (Even though he didn't play that one. :) )
Seeing Adam playing all the instruments is something that is almost indescribable. It was like I was watching a good friend jamming out in their garage and playing phenomenally. Would definitely go and see him again in the future. The venue was small so you had a great view almost everywhere.
Owl City continues to explore riveting new horizons with his newest album Coco Moon and brought it successfully to the stage. He also managed to reintroduce his older classics in a refreshing and wholesome fashion. Over the years, Adam Young has shown his exceptional talent on stage, but I never witnessed it… until now! Owl City shows his majestic menagerie with a great performance that you do not want to miss. when it comes around.
Owl City blew me away with how immersive, creative, fun, and impressive the concert was! Adam Young can play every instrument and DOES play every instrument, which was so cool to see!
While it was hard to get a good spot where we could see the stage well, my friend and I still really enjoyed ourselves. When she went to buy merch, I was glad to know she was able to watch on screens the first few songs. The sound quality was as great as I remembered it being the last time I came to this venue.
Owl City was my first ever concert and I wouldn’t have traded that for the world. I was enthralled by everything and he completely exceeded my expectations. It was the best night ever. Thank you, Adam, you are life changing.
I brought my 9-year-old son with me to this concert and he thought it was a blast. We were able to get balcony seats and the venue was really well run with helpful staff who directed us there when it was clear that our standing room only wouldn’t allow him to see. As far as I could tell everyone around us was enjoying themselves as much as we were and there was an excited atmosphere. Owl City was great and entertaining with lots of extra instrumental portions and a really well done set that showcased the best of his old and new songs. I would say definitely as much fun as I’ve had at a concert!
Thank you so much for coming to Ace of Spades in Sacramento, loved it so much man! Please come back sometime 💚
Everything was fine, except that the ticket said that the doors opened at 6pm and they ended up opening at 6:30pm
Owl City never disappoints. Love his energy and infectious positivity. This show was his best yet and I’m so excited for the next one!!
I've loved owl city and been a huge fan for close to 14 years . This was the first concert I was able to go to and I had the greatest time of my life. Everything went really smoothly and I had an overall amazing time seeing adam!
Seeing Owl City(Adam Young) has always been a huge goal of mine and it happened this night! The whole experience was magical, from the amazing light show, the fans handing handmade bracelets out, Adam killing it on every instrument and vocals. Sound was amazing! Very bass heavy which I didn't mind. Overall 100/100. Will be seeing him again!
The intimate space created an incredible experience to watch Owl City perform. Because of the smaller venue the performance felt genuine and like the performer really connected with the audience. Just about anywhere on the floor you could see his face without looking at the “big screen”. I would say the same for the balcony but I didn’t see up there. Would totally go to this venue again and do whatever I could to see Owl City!
The venue is decent. One fault was that the bar would not give my kid a gratis cup of water. You know the small 8 oz plastic cup. It's a low class operator that makes you purchase a drink of water. If it's policy that's on HOB. If it's the bartender then they are a sad person.
Absolutely incredible experience. Adam Young's talent and showmanship was such a delight to witness and his love and passion for his music and his fans is amazing. I know all of these songs by heart and it was delightful experiencing them in a way that was both familiar and exciting. Would recommend to anybody who likes Owl City's music, seeing him live was such a joy. Will absolutely be going again if he ever comes back to Dallas.
The show was lots of fun, great getting to see Owl City perform
This is the first, & only concert I have been to and it was the absolute best! Owl city was amazing live and even brought tears in my eyes as soon as he started playing! I hope to see him live again some day!
I've loved Owl City for years, and I've never seen Adam preform live until now. I was a little concerned that the music would not have the same punch in person because he tends to use a lot of vocal effects in his songs. BUT I was amazed at how much I liked the live versions and would go see him again in a heartbeat. The performance was very entertaining, and gave a sense of wonder the entire time that is hard to put into words. Adam is a great guy and deserves all the love coming to him.
The intro set was amazing and the rest of the songs were great too. Everyone sang along to the favorites and the keytar playing was out of this world!
