Cirque du Soleil: OVO on Tour
Talk about creating a buzz. Touring circus company Cirque du Soleil's OVO offers a nonstop, life-affirming, two-hour tribute to the infinitely diverse world of insects. This sensual, acrobatically dazzling show premiered in 2009 as the Montreal-based circus company's 25th production since 1984. The cast for its premiere included 54 performing artists from 16 different countries. Created and directed by Deborah Colker, OVO (Portuguese for "egg") contemplates insects in all their beauty, action and curiosity. Brazilian composer Berna Ceppas transforms their flight, leaps, creeping and crawling into a samba-influenced choreographic spectacle augmented by the constant flutter and hum of real insect sounds.
With well over a thousand performances to date, OVO long ago took flight as one of the Cirque's most popular and rewarding extravaganzas. As Albany, New York's Times Union said of OVO in 2020, "In our digital age, it's reassuring to remember that non-simulated, filter-free entertainment still has the power to dazzle and transport us."
What is Cirque du Soleil: OVO?
Upon its Montreal debut in 2009, OVO became Cirque du Soleil's most audacious and virtuosic new-circus show to date. A trio of principal characters — Master Flipo, Foreigner and Ladybug — keeps this arena spectacular in constant motion, as awestruck insects become intensely interested in a mysterious egg's sudden appearance. OVO teems with life, and Cirque du Soleil's talented cast mirrors the insect world's natural abilities to fly, balance and leap with a lifetime of practice and precision.
During one of the company's largest flying acts, 10 scarab beetles on three platforms toss a single beetle back and forth. A colorfully costumed dragonfly flits about, red ants juggle chunks of kiwi and corncobs with their feet, and butterflies cling gracefully to one another as they float through the air. For OVO's grand finale, the large span used for brilliant lighting effects transforms into a two-story climbing wall onto which trampoline-powered crickets are hurled as though onto a vertical stage. Cockroaches, grasshoppers and other insects serve as supporting characters throughout the evening's dozen acrobatic tours de force.
I surprised my family with this show and they were in awe the whole time. Every part of it was amazing, including the intervals in between the main events because they had things going on at all times. My family will never forget this and I hit a homerun when it comes to surprises!

Cirque de Soleil never disappoints! Beautiful, with wonderful music, amazing athleticism, and a touch of humor.
This is the third show that I have attended and I am amazed everytime. Took my 2yr old grandson and he was impressed a well!!! GREAT JOB!!!
The show was very enjoyable and had something for every age. Kids will definitely like the unique and whimsical characters and adults will be amazed at the skills of the acrobats. All in all I think everyone should experience a Cirque du Soleil show!
these super athletes are so exceptional that there are really not enough words to describe what they are capable of doing to transform, excite and amuse an audience regardless of age.
all i can say is it was the greatest show i've seen in years. loved it ,would go and see it again,worth every penny spent .the people are very athletic ,talented and entertaining , as they say- spot on.
Theatrical acrobats in a mind-blowing perfomance. It was freaky and wierd, yet so intelligent and creative. I would highly recommend going to see this event.
Overall this is a great event. Amazing skill and talent. However, I feel it's just too expensive for the entertainment value. Also, I could have done without the ladybug/bug thing. Not entertaining and at the end the egg never hatched. Doesn't even make sense.
The show was amazing .cant say much about the venue though it was overly cramped and made it hard to enjoy the show
As always this show lived up to Cirque's high standers. Great story line with some amazing athletic performances and incredible agility.
I love Cirque du Soleil, however this particular event was not one of my favorites. I've only seen one other show of theirs, Allegria which I thought was great. This one was not as good.

The entire show was a great treat. It's always amazing to me what people can do with their bodies with enough training and practice. The costumes were beautiful and I sometimes wondered how the performers managed to do their act without having problems with the costumes. Again, it shows the practice and professionalism of the troupe.
The show was great but the place was horrible. It was hard to find our seats cause it was dark. The floors were so dirty that your feet stuck to the floor. Our show was the frist of the day and the bathrooms were dirty and needed toliet paper.
Athletically, one of the most astounding performances!
great show. awesome entertainers. never a dull moment during the show. highly recommended.
