Outlaw Music Festival on Tour
The traveling musical circus that is the Outlaw Music Festival gives rootsy music fans of all stripes a special opportunity for some summer fun. Despite the shifting lineup of artists from year to year, Willie Nelson, naturally, is at the center of each show, and when you're watching him perform you're seeing an American treasure in action. But there's a lot more going on at the festival, as fans have found out over the years. The Outlaw stage has hosted the impassioned R&B/folk/blues amalgam of living legend Van Morrison, the blistering blues-rock sounds that turned the Tedeschi Trucks Band into a musical institution, the freewheeling, jam-happy journey of The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh and many, many others. For fans of Americana-oriented music, it's tough to think of a better way to spend a summer day (and night), and this festival gives as many people as possible that opportunity by taking it in on the road.
Outlaw Music Festival Background
Spearheaded by no less iconic a figure than Willie Nelson, the Outlaw Music Festival started out in 2016 and turned into an annual shape-shifting celebration of roots-based music's many forms. Dipping into rock, country, folk, blues and bluegrass, the festival has included Alison Krauss, Old Crow Medicine Show, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sturgill Simpson, Van Morrison, Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Phil Lesh and Friends, Robert Plant & The Sensational Shape Shifters, Bonnie Raitt, Counting Crows and plenty more. The Outlaw Village that's a part of each event date gives fans a chance to enjoy local foods and crafts and to commune with fellow music lovers while they're not busy being bowled over by what's happening onstage. Not every artist at The Outlaw Music Festival is American, but they're all profoundly influenced by the many strands of music that make up the Americana tapestry.
Excellent energetic and talented group of musicians aiming to entertain their audience!!! And Willie was the icing on the cake, a truly special beautiful MAN!
The entire lineup was fantastic and the venue was top notch!! Ole Willie never disappoints and it was my first time to see The Avent Brothers, wow, they are great!!
Wonderful venue, the music was wonderful and I was so Happy to hear Willie again!! He was so good for 90 although I saw all his band members no longer there especially Bobbie and I thought I might cry Thanks for a memorable evening.
Willie always gives a great concert. He may be getting old but he still is awesome. The Avett Brothers may be my new favorite group. They were awesome.
Very sad to say the festival was not very good. The artist that accompanied the show at Brandon fell short of what I expected. You couldn’t half understand what was being sung. It was just so long and honestly boring. The best of all was The Avett Brotgers. It was a 5 plus hour wait to hear Willie who still did an amazing job to be 90!!! If I had this to do over I wouldn’t have arrived till 9 pm. I understand why people were giving away tickets. I would have thought Willie’s tour would have attracted better singers. I would have gladly paid more for a better line up.
The Avett Brothers were so worth it!!! My favorite part of the show and why I bought the tickets. Also enjoyed Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs. It was nice to see Willie Nelson one last time - the first time I saw Willie was in Birmingham in 1979. Weather was perfect!
Each group and performer were entertaining, connected with the crowd and everyone had a good time.
The venue was perfect - of course the wonderful weather helped with that. The music and sound quality was great, as were the concession options. The ushers definitely did their part to help people find their seats but also to keep the aisles clear and accessible.
Enjoyed all the music. Much talent to be proud of. Amazing how Willie Nelson can perform at 90 years old.
All of the performance was great! Wish there was more of Willlie but understand he was traveling!! Hope to see him again!
Great show! Each act exceeded expectations! Willie is still crushing it!
Willie was great I am so glad we got to see him again. Sorry we missed everyone else but our plan was to see Willie and we did. such an amazing entertainer.
Elizabeth Cook, Gov’t Mule, The Avett Brothers and Willie Nelson all gave it their all. It was a long concert but well worth the time spent there. I love concerts at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama.
The Outlaw Music Festival was ok - I will be honest and say I only went because my mother-in-law wanted to see Willie Nelson. The Willie Nelson portion was good - he has apparently a few health issues which create some limitations on his performance - as is expected at his age. The REAL problem is the venue which is a non smoking venue allowing patrons to smoke (stadium managers and cops alike didn't care if people were smoking pot or cigarettes). I am allergic to smoke and can't breathe when I'm exposed, so unfortunately will not be back to MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater. Additionally, not exactly happy that our section 4 front row handicap seats with an electric wheelchair (that can't get wet) got wet from the roof leaks during a small rain shower.
Music was great, iThink Financial Amphitheater is so overpriced and dirty it diminished the experience. While the Staff were wonderful the unsanitary venue left me thinking I needed a Tetanus shot! The Parking is intentionally made so bad you have to pay for better access, not closer to the venue, but just to get in and out. They are more concerned with advertiser signage than where the Seating Sections, bathrooms, Water Refill stations (so much for sustainability!), and anything else that doesn’t make a buck. I’d rather drive several hours and pay for gas to go to almost any other venue to see shows.
Alcohol prices were outrageous. Traveled to see Govt. Mule and they played less than an hour. Will not return to this venue.
No bad seats at this amphitheater Great show Willie Nelson a legend ! Avett brothers was a good bonus We hadn’t heard of them
Willie was awesome, and we also love Avett Brothers...drinks were overpriced
What a festival! Willie Nelson! Could not get any better! And, he brought us a festival like the old times! Thanks Willie for never changing!
The music was good. The venue was too small/condensed for the amount of people. No where to hang out between acts. There were only 2 food vendors for thousands of people and it was a 30 minute wait minimum.
