OTTMAR LIEBERT IN CONCERT:
Guitarist and Zen monk Ottmar Liebert is a giant of new age music, beloved by fans around the world for his virtuosic brand of Spanish-influenced guitar instrumentals. His pared down live performances are a model of less-is-more, moving audiences with simple yet emotional arrangements that allow his talents to really shine. Fans at Liebert's 2013 shows were treated to a decidedly spiritual experience, building anticipation for his 2014 tour dates with his band Luna Negra.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Cologne, West Germany, Ottmar Liebert took up the guitar at age 11 and the flamenco guitar at 14. After several years playing rock music throughout Germany and the US, Liebert settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1989 and started the first incarnation of his band Luna Negra. Their 1990 debut LP Nouveau Flamenco marked a break with Liebert's rock past, instead exploring "new flamenco," a subgenre that featured traditional flamenco guitar alongside more contemporary pop elements. Over the next two decades, Liebert released more than 20 studio albums, five of which received Grammy nominations for Best New Age Album. The recipient of 38 Gold and Platinum certifications from the RIAA, Liebert is poised for even more success with two new albums slated for 2014.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"To describe Ottmar's performance as amazing would be an understatement. It was without a doubt...the evening of a lifetime. He plays with his heart and soul — you as the audience feel every chord that he strums."
"Ottmar Liebert was incredible. He played for an hour and a half and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. He played some new music, the new CD is fabulous. He played some old music, it was the perfect mix of songs. He is a humble and talented man."
"Spiritual and then some. His playlist was great and in some cases, I preferred the stage version over the studio version."

Sometimes you go to a concert that is pleasant, but uninspiring. One song just blends into the next.
The sound system was excellent. The crowd appreciated real talent. Great evening.
Ottmar Liebert was wonderful. The venue was tiny with chairs set up in a circular format in a ballroom and general admission to sit wherever you want except the first 2 rows. It was difficult to see. That was a bad idea. This was not stated when I purchased the tickets. Parking was horrible. It took 30 minutes to enter the lot. Signage at the event was non existent. I enter 3 theaters before finding the room I needed.
We purchased Meet & Greet tickets for this concert. Was glad to here it would be in a small setting. However, the emails received did not specify details for the meet & greet as we normally get. We were trying to get a hold of the venue office to get information on the meet & greet timne needed to be there, if before or after, and what to expect as each is different. We were trying since the friday before the concert so at least 4 days until we finally spoke to venue the wednesday before and we were told it would be after the performance. We arrived at almost 7pm 1/2 hour before starting, we were sat 2nd row in VIP rows and there were not too many there yet..we did not see any setup or sign for meet & greet, they had a clipboard with names, etc.. and all they did was sit us at our seat in middle 2nd row perfect seating. I think the room only had about 100-150 seats.. We waited after concernt and asked abiut the meet & greet with a few others and then were told it was before at 6:30PM.. we were 6 in our party that paid for meet and greet tickets. needless to say that we did not meet or greet.. Several others were there too expressing the same and lack of communcation. We should at minimum had some communication on this meet greet. We were told that he didnt even allow a picture or anything. Very dissapointed and we shuould have at least received a voucher or some compensation for not getting what we paid for or even getting detaild for meet and greet properly. The attendant and manager confirmed it was not communicated.
Great, soothing music play Ottmar Liebert and his band. A true talent, and a must see.
Jo Long Theater was the perfect venue to host this concert-small and intimate. Parking was not an issue. As always Ottmar Liebert delivered a magical performance. A perfect combination of old and new music. A memorable Bob Marley cover was the best part of the evening.
A brilliant performance. Whenever Ottmar started to play the audience was silent. That rarely happens these days. His recordings are great, but can't hold a candle to hearing Ottmar and Luna Negra playing live!
I have been a fan of Ottmar Liebert for years and finally had an opportunity to hear him, and Luna Negra, live at the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas. At precisely 8:00 PM Ottmar and Luna Negra walked out on stage, sat down and started playing. After about a 30-minute set, OL finally spoke to the audience. He mentioned the music we just listened to and where to find it on social media. They then played for another hour and when they finished, they walked off stage. They came back on stage for one encore song, then left again without saying a word. That was the Unique Experience. The music was excellent of course. I have not been to a performance or concert in years, but 90 minutes seems a little short considering what tickets cost these days.
I go to see Ottmar Liebert every chance I get, so much so that I have lost count of how many times I've seen him perform live. He never disappoints, nor do his accompanying musicians. I will continue to attend his concerts whenever I can. He is musicianship at its finest and I am an appreciative fan.
The music was amazing, as usual with Ottmar Leibert . The venue was confortable and not crowded. Sound was very good also
Love the Venue awesome atmosphere and sound quality.
Fantastic concert, really enjoyable!!! Great seats and venue
The tunes mostly alternated between I and IV chords with minimal if any flamenco flare, that had been his big claim to fame early on. It was all well played but more bland than I would have liked
What a great show! Ottmar isn't a chatty guy by any stretch, came out, sat down, tuned up and away they went! Solid music for a good hour and a half. Some great solo performances by his fellow performers (drums and bass) as well. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat!
Just perfect! As soon as I heard that he was going to be in San Antonio I bought my tickets. I enjoy his performance so much. I want to hear him again.
It was a good performance however there was VERY LITTLE interaction with the crowd, which made it a bit boring. All the songs begin to sound the same. If he would have at least took us on a journey about his music we would have enjoyed it more. Ottmar, if you're reading this, please think about talking a bit more about your music, your journey, your inspiration about your music. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.
The music was so beautiful. He is a master guitarist and nothing, not even a disruption in the audience that happened could take away from the experience they played on and the audience loved it. The best music
I was extremely thrilled to have attended this concert at the cultural center. Ottmar was on point as usual and happy I made the trip to San Antonio from Philly to attend this event. Hope to see him again soon!
I've made the last three of his concerts when Ottmar has visited San Antonio. The Jo Long Theater venue has a perfect intimate setting. I really enjoyed my second row seats. His percussionist was awesome. He played some of his new music and ended the night with a classic. The crowd was really into it. Thanks for a superlative evening!
