About

OTTMAR LIEBERT IN CONCERT:

Guitarist and  Zen monk Ottmar Liebert is a giant of new age music, beloved by fans around the world for his virtuosic brand of Spanish-influenced guitar instrumentals. His pared down live performances are a model of less-is-more, moving audiences with simple yet emotional arrangements that allow his talents to really shine. Fans at Liebert's 2013 shows were treated to a decidedly spiritual experience, building anticipation for his 2014 tour dates with his band Luna Negra.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Cologne, West Germany, Ottmar Liebert took up the guitar at age 11 and the flamenco guitar at 14. After several years playing rock music throughout Germany and the US, Liebert settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1989 and started the first incarnation of his band Luna Negra. Their 1990 debut LP Nouveau Flamenco marked a break with Liebert's rock past, instead exploring "new flamenco," a subgenre that featured traditional flamenco guitar alongside more contemporary pop elements. Over the next two decades, Liebert released more than 20 studio albums, five of which received Grammy nominations for Best New Age Album. The recipient of 38 Gold and Platinum certifications from the RIAA, Liebert is poised for even more success with two new albums slated for 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"To describe Ottmar's performance as amazing would be an understatement. It was without a doubt...the evening of a lifetime. He plays with his heart and soul — you as the audience feel every chord that he strums."

"Ottmar Liebert was incredible. He played for an hour and a half and it was one of the best concerts I've been to. He played some new music, the new CD is fabulous. He played some old music, it was the perfect mix of songs. He is a humble and talented man."

"Spiritual and then some. His playlist was great and in some cases, I preferred the stage version over the studio version."

  • Great concert - Bad venue

by Jim on 10/10/25House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was excellent. Ottmar and his band walked out on stage at 8:00 PM on the dot. No late start like usual. They went right into the music (which sounded just like their recordings) and played for almost 45 minutes with no chatter before he ever said anything (just the music). I would highly recommend going to see him. The venue (House of Blues in Houston) left a lot to be desired. We had to stand out on a balcony waiting to get in, then walk up 2 flights of stairs and around the building to get to the door. The floor seats were very low so one had to crane their neck to see. The balcony seats were up so high it was like a Google Earth view of the stage (if the handrail wasn't in the way, which part of it was). We couldn't see the base player for most of the show. Very expensive drinks and my wife's margarita was lame. Not a venue for us older folks. At least they had an elevator to go down to leave.

  • Perfect date night!

by HopiWanKenobi on 9/21/25House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra were absolutely phenomenal at House of Blues Houston! The music was mesmerizing, the atmosphere intimate, and it made for the perfect date night with my husband. We left feeling inspired, relaxed, and in awe of the artistry we had just experienced. I loved it so much I bought five more of their albums right after the show!

  • Intimate and Unique.

A very tight integration of melodies played with heart and soul by very skilled musicians.

  • Liebert still has it

Very good set, like a jam session. Love the House of Blues venue, though the floor seats are a little small .

  • New Changes

    by Jude on 9/10/25Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

I have been an Ottmar fan since the 90's when he played with Santana at the fairgrounds. I have seen him countless times in Tucson and have always enjoyed his shows. This particular performance was full of very relaxing very mellow music but, honestly, I found myself getting bored. For a full 90 minutes, Ottmas regaled us with his beautiful music and accompanying videos. For his encore, he played a very upbeat, familiar tune. Will probably think seriously before attending another performance.

  • Amazing musician

    by TucsonRose on 9/10/25Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 4 out of 5

Otmar sure still has it! Amazing talent. Beautiful music. However, I felt like the drummer drowned out the guitar several times during the concert. I also thought the Venue was dreadful!! I could see the entire audiance fidgiting on their seats due to how uncomfortable the seats were. I had to stand in the back during trhe last half of the concert. My lgs were getting numb. I even brought a seat cushion! I would never return to this venue unless I could bring my own chair! Music deserves a 5 star, venue deserves 1 star...

  • Long-time fan of Ottmar Liebert

I've been listening to Ottmar Liebert for many, many years. Everything from writing to doing yoga and meditating, Ottmar is in my ears. This was a beautiful, intimate concert and I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you. <3

  • Good show at a reasonable price.

by Good show at a reasonable price. on 9/10/25Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 4 out of 5

Really good show from a master of the Spanish guitar. Well worth to go see and enjoy if you enjoy live performances.

  • Disapointing

No audience engagement. Music selection was one note from an artist who has recorded so much. Boring.

  • Transformative evening

by barnkat on 9/8/25The Railhead at Boulder Station Hotel & Casino - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

I've listened to Ottmar Liebert since 1990's Nouveau Flamenco album came out - I actually wore out an auto-switching CD boombox's heads playing it non-stop at work for months - but I've never had a chance to hear Ottmar and Luna Negra live. I saw the ad and asked my husband if he would mind a weekend trip to Vegas to hear them. Imagine my surprise when I discovered he'd been listening to my Amazon Music and iTunes playlists and had chosen Ottmar as one of his favorites. The venue was intimate, and honestly, that made the whole night magical. Ottmar is still at the top of his game, his bass player is fantastic, and the drummer was doing things we couldn't even figure out - and the final (non-encore) song definitely showed off his musical chops! My husband (an engineer and a "it was ok"kind of person) could not stop raving about the evening. The review title was his comment on the way to the car - "That was a truly transformative evening." If you have a chance to see Ottmar and Luna Negra, take it - you won't be disappointed.
