Orlando Magic History

Joining the NBA in the 1989 expansion era, the Magic struggled for three years until picking center Shaquille O'Neal first in the 1992 draft. The Magic finished at .500 in the 1992–93 season, barely missing the playoffs. Then, with only a slim chance in the 1993 draft lottery, the team won the rights to pick No. 1 again. They used their selection, Chris Webber, in a trade to obtain guard Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and future picks.

O’Neal and Hardaway led the Magic to 50 wins in the 1993–94 season and then 57 victories, as well as a trip to the NBA Finals, the following year. In the 1995–96 campaign, the Magic won a franchise-record 60 games in what would be O'Neal's last season in Orlando. They made it to the Eastern Conference finals against the Chicago Bulls.

Over the next 10 years, the Magic made the playoffs five times under the leadership of coach Doc Rivers and Hall of Fame guard Tracy McGrady, who earned two scoring titles and the 2001 Most Improved Player award during his tenure. The 2006–07 season saw Orlando start a run of six consecutive postseason appearances, as star center Dwight Howard blossomed and the Magic surrounded him with young talent and savvy veterans.

The Magic reached the second round of the playoffs in 2008 behind Howard and forwards Hidayet "Hedo" Türkoğlu and Rashard Lewis. The following season, with trade acquisition Rafer Alston filling in for injured point guard Jameer Nelson and sharpshooter J.J. Redick taking on a more prominent role, the team won 59 games and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, the Boston Celtics and the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs. It earned the Magic a second trip to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following Howard’s trade to the Lakers in 2012, the Magic began a decade-long rebuilding process while developing notable talents like Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vučević. The Magic’s luck seemed to improve after reaching playoff contention once again in 2019 and 2020, and landing top draft picks such as Mo Bamba, Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, and 2023 Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero.

The only problem is the seating, it was so uncomfortable that we have to leave at halftime. My husband have bad knee, we are senior citizens. We went to ask the guy that was there, for a better seating for disable person, and he was so rude, sending us to a counter to ask. Awful!

  • Ok

    by A. S. on 1/26/22Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 4 out of 5

Went to Magic Lakers game and our issue was the food. The food places we went to were disorganized and had no idea whose order was whose and took way to long for food. The last food spot we went to in line at 18:01 and left at 18:46 ...so 45 mins for food. I can get food faster at a dine in restaurant. Also they were promoting 19 Crimes wine with a tasting booth...problem was they had no wine to sample. They said they were waiting on it to arrive...and it never came because i came back later and still did not have.

  • Overall wonderful experience

  • Affordable tickets to a last place team

by Tinball on 1/26/22Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 2 out of 5

I do always enjoy going to see the Magic games. They are so bad that you can get very affordable NBA tickets. That being said, when you buy 6th row tickets, you should not have to sit in a folding chair. The state of the seats in section 102 are laughable. The seat my wife sat in looks like it came from a church basement in the 70s. It wasn't even secured to the floor and she almost fell over backwards the first time she sat in the seat. If you are going to sell premium tickets, you should get a decent seat (not a chair) to sit in.

  • Wonderfull

Nice experience with my son and Exellent Service the Ticketmaster and the Anmway Arena.

  • Better personnel

by Adriana on 1/26/22Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 3 out of 5

I honestly think the no bags thing is unnecessary the Amway Center just needs better security, a more friendly personnel who isn’t rude at the guests like they did to me and my family and better directions for the parking because it took me 40 minutes to find my parking because know wanted to help me. Ticketmaster is amazing and I love it but the Amway Center need to get a new staff that are not rude and are willing to help.

  • Easy to use

  • Amway experience

    by DA$H on 1/24/22Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

My second time here in 2 weeks. The venue is pretty dope. Atmosphere is great. Only thing missing is winning Orlando Magic culture. Most of why I loved it came from the visiting teams fans. There needs to be more given to the fans. Secret seat prizes. Like Free food at Halftime, Merchandise, Jumbotron recognition, etc. I moved to Orlando from Wilmington Delaware just outside of Philadelphia. I’m a 76ers Fan and root for the Magic Now. Glad I have a stadium where I can see games in my town. Not to try and tell you how to run your business but the fans are everything, we really are. I’ll be attending a few more games myself. I love it. Hopefully the Magic Draft well and bring in a few free agents. Otherwise, the Disney/Magic connection needs to feel like I thought it felt with Shaq and Penny. Even in Delaware the Magic felt Magical. MAKE THE MAGIC GREAT AGAIN. ✌🏽

  • Took forever to enter the stadium. Bad storage and handling

by Eman on 1/24/22Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 1 out of 5

We arrived to the stadium in a timely manner about 15 minutes after 7 due to difficulty finding parking and traffic. Upon arrival we presented our tickets and were told my girlfriends clutch was too large. The clutch was 8x6x1 but apparently that was too large. we had to put it in a "binbox" before going inside which was a terrible experience. first it was 10$ to basically have our items placed in a bin outside with two people watching them, unsecured. The locked cases were full so appearently this was the next best place. Retrieving the item took even longer because they couldn't find our bag for a while due to lack of organization. upon entry to the stadium everything else was smooth, but the process of getting inside was a CHORE. Would highly recommend a different method for this next game. Maybe because it was a big name team, but still not fun to deal with a miss a whole quarter trying to wait in line just to put our bag down to get in.

  • Amazing Experience

Got these tickets as a gift for someone and they were absolutely amazing seats. The process of purchasing the tickets and entering the venue was so easy. Ticketmaster also provided updates and reminders for what to expect when going to the venue which was very helpful
