    Amazing Performance

by DragmorianMom on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

I saw Storm in her one woman show bare her soul with courage that I found breathtaking. Then I watched her at Christmas and saw how she is electrifying as a rock performer. With the symphony I saw how truly versatile she is and witnessed her amazing vocal range and the depth of her musical talent. She sang songs from the 40s and 50s with passion, originality and yet reverence for the material. Her stage presence and comfort with the audience meant that even when there was a problem, it was charming and not a jar. I have rarely enjoyed a performance as much as I did this one. Storm said that this was not her last performance with the Symphony. If you have a chance to see the next one, do not miss it.

    Fun Night at the Schnitz

by LolaPie on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

Mostly we loved the concert- the symphony was great, Storm was large, the night was fun. My one complaint is, knowing that shock value is the attraction to Storm, or at least what she feels is the draw, the second half was very big on die and hate and scissors in the eye. I separated the music from the words and enjoyed it in spite of. The encore of "The First Time Ever.." was superb- maybe even better than Roberta Flack's original.

    Storm Large: Crazy Love

by 49Mommie on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

I thought Storm with the Symphony was fabulous!! TRE FABU!! She has an amazing voice and it was so fun to see her in this venue, with this playlist. The Cole Porter arrangement was HOT, the best of the night! This drew a very different symphony crowd and everyone was buzzing about it. Some people thought Storm was too reined in, but hey, she was with the Symphony-not at Dante's. Go to Dante's for the x rated version. It was fabulous to see Storm stretch her performance muscles with this scenario; she may be all about rock and roll but you have to challenge yourself in different ways as an artist. Please have her back again next season. Great job, Susan Nielsen!

    Storm Large and the Symphony?

by Anonymous on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

A crazy sounding combination of musical styles and personalities, one that I looked forward to witnessing first hand without really knowing what to expect. We arrived in time to beat the dimming lights and with enough time to take in the very diverse crowd. Storm came out in a nice dress, jewelry flashing in the lights, nary a sign of her rocker self to be seen but for the tattoo across her exposed back. She mostly "behaved", as she was instructed, though where sexual harassment of a conductor falls in regard to that edict I don't know. Doesn't matter, as Gregory Vajda appeared to love it (who wouldn't?). The melding of Storm's voice, piano and drums, and the symphony orchestra worked. It worked very well. The musical story-ish line, the alternative take on recognized songs, and incorporation of local musical talents whirled together into an intoxicating ride that ended all too soon.

Classy performance with a side of raw emotion. Storm continues to evolve and show her ability to perform in various venues.

    Great Time!

by LisaandAlex on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

I really enjoyed the symphony, Storm Large, and her guest musicians. The harmonies were wonderful (beautiful arrangement of Unchained Melody!!), and she is always entertaining. I hope that she will continue to perform with the symphony. My boyfriend enjoyed the show too.

    Larger than life

by chiniqua on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

Once again Storm throws down an amazing show. Why do I get the feeling I am witnessing greatness - just before she hits the big, big time. Got a feeling I will get to say I remember when.... she wowed us in Ptown.

Symphony & Storm were perfect together

by kandv on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

This was the perfect valentines day concert. Storm played to a very diverse audience; there were attendees who were more attuned to the symphony and those there to see Storm - she catered to all very well. The added guest participants were a plus. The banter between the conductor - Vajdos - and Storm was fun and their interactions with the audience was very enjoyable. Both the symphony and Storm Large performed a memorable, fun concert.

    Storm Large, Crazy love.

by Vito612 on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

This was an amazing show. I've always enjoyed Storm's performances, but putting her in front of a full symphony orchestra truly amazing. Her comfort zone seems to know no bounds. She was tender, baudy, and hilarious. This was my first exposure to live symphonic music. It was quite an experience. I'm looking forward to Storm's promised return to The Oregon Symphony. I will be there!

    Simply the best...

by Frobisher on 2/15/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

My wife and I have been Storm Large fans for about 7 years, and in our eyes she can do no wrong. That doesn't mean we're indescriminating though. While the material in the show was a bit outside Storm's sweet spot you'd never guess it if you weren't familiar with her rocker persona. She is without a doubt one of the most accomplished vocalists around today, and this show proved that she can sing anything. The evening was an absolute delight from start to finish. Her repartee matched her vocal prowess, and this simply added to our enjoyment. She is simply amazing...

    out of control!

by indybaby on 2/14/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

Storm Large was out of control with the Oregon Symphony! I was a fan before, but NOW I am a major fan. She's a superstar. Pairing Storm with the Oregon Symphony, pairing her handling of romantic standards with harassing the conductor and swearing was as good as pairing her fabulous gowns with her large tatoos!

Music is Alive and the Goddess is afoot!

by PabloZ on 2/14/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

Storm Large was in fine voice and the first few ballads were just fine. Then she did an arrangement of Cole Porter's "Iv'e Got You Under My Skin"... Baby oh baby! she bagged that tune! wrapped it up and put it in her bag of tricks! Ol' Blue Eyes was pretty good with it but Storm brought a whole new dimension. The night got better and better after that; The two kids from :"The Decemberists" and the unforgettable duet with China Forbes. It was wonderful. I love old time Rock & Roll and I think Storm is wasting her chops on the new music Hope to hear more of her on the old standards.

ablazeing! 5 stars are not enough

by truc on 2/14/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

My wife, (an amateur singer), and I were completely taken by Storm and her guest stars. Beauty, power, and grace. Storm Large has the control and range of voice to orbit a distant star and bring it back to ground in a phrase, from roar to whisper in a breathe. She so totally had the house, the symphony, and fellow musicians in her grasp, all the while respectfully engaged with all the musicians in her realm. She blew us away, it may be the best concert I have ever seen. She made the old standards her own, the new music was putty in her hands, and the contours of the evening created a brand new shape unknown before. Portland, go out in this Storm. You will never be the same.

    Storm Large was outstanding!

by cbzw51 on 2/14/10Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - Portland

We enjoyed the show even more than we had expected. The choice of songs was so wonderful, each one having different emotions and life. We didn't want it to end. Very Memorable.
