Bottom line - missed opportunity
by jKH74 on 9/19/18Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - BoiseThe singing was excellent, the orchestra was amazing, but the bottom line is that it was a missed opportunity. The storie line was lacking. For anyone that didn’t know Westside Story, it would have been confusing. There was no acting, dancing, or props to help carry the storyline and the music alone didn’t carry the storyline. It was impossible to know where the story was taking place. The way the story was presented it seemed like a group of boys called the Jets were against a group of girls. The “groups” never felt gang-like. The shooting of Tony at the end was unclear for anyone that didn’t already know that he dies. The orchestra played the largest role in the performance, with the singing becoming a sidebar.
