    Barger was amazing!!

This was the most enjoyable evening ever spent at an opera. The performance was truly amazing in every catagory. I'd see it again if I could get a ticket.

    Figaro was larger than life

by Wychryder on 2/13/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

If you only see one Opera, go see his one! It's funny, the music is familiar, and you can bring the whole family. The children seated by me where laughing maybe more than the adults! I especially liked the slow motion scene towards the end of Act 1 and also at the end of Act 2. Very inventive and effective.

    Figaro was brilliant

by AnnaA on 2/13/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

The Barber of Seville production set a new standard for opera. It was without a doubt the best staged opera I have seen, anywhere!

Wonderful performance by all at the Barber of Seville. The last scenes before the break were so well executed, spellbinding and playful. I would certainly recommend this opera to others.

    Delightfully Entertaining Evening

by Colokid on 2/10/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

The sets were magnificent, the performance exceptional. The evening was filled with an enjoyable performance and many chuckles as the actors played out a wonderful tale of love and entrapment. If you enjoy a romantic comedy combined with an excellent performance this is one you won't want to miss.

    Barber was fantastic

by Forkin on 2/9/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

I was very impressed with this event. The level of talent was above what I expected and the Opera House was also a notch above what I had envisioned. This was my first Opera Colorado event, but it will certainly not be my last.

    Opera for everyone!

by Jillyhen on 2/8/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

If you've never seen an opera, or you're not sure you'd like the opera, this is the opera for YOU! This is the opera for EVERYONE. This is the opera that makes fun of opera! This was my first opera, and it was a blast. Gotta love the translation screens built into the seats at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House--that clinches it. I'm sure I'd have known basically what was going on, but it's better to know exactly. And if you already know, you can turn them off. You'll love the slow-motion scene! I wish I could hit rewind and watch it over and over! was just so much to see--you can't catch it all in one viewing. The talent is amazing--and remember, it's all happening at a mile high. VIVA FIGARO!!!

    Engaging in Opera

by denver51 on 2/8/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

I had to write a review of this production of the "Barber of Seville" beause my family and I loved it so . One of the most important gifts that the USA has made to the arts is the abilty to endow any situation with credibility and non-affected realism . This quality above all other makes American actors on the big screen and on the stage, so coveted. If any genre of calssical art has suffered from affectation, it is opera, not this production, however. Opera Colorado's production of "the Barber of Seville" is an opera that is truly understandable, rich in the basics of our common human nature. It is a comic endearing romance performed without any pretences. The production was filled with rip-roaring music convincingly felt by the musicians and operatic cast. I laughed till tears streamed down my cheeks at the final scenc before the intermission. A wonderful production at every level of sound and visual richness. Figarro was fabulous but so was everyone else. Thank you one and all for a wonderful uplifting evening . Bravo and see you at Tosca.

    Figaro magic

by Agnes5 on 2/7/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

The seats that we had were up in the rafters, but the venue and accustics were nice and we heard the music and singing well. The story is great and the action flowed well. A long opera, but well worth it.

    February 6th operacolorado

by itsvgood on 2/7/10Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

I appreciated that the opera I chose to attend was a romantic comedy, but it was a little "too light" for my tastes. The music, however, was memorable. Hats off to conductor Leonardo Vordoni, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and the Opera Colorado Chorus for their outstanding efforts. The stage sets were well executed and added so much to one's overall opera experience. My perceptions of the main characters and their voices was spoiled by my attending the metopera in movie theatres where the greatest opera talents on the planet have the key roles. It was a very worthy effort by the young singers, however, as many of them were making their opera debuts. Their enthusiasm and joie de vivre shown through and made the performance a success.

    Hoffman was fantastic!

by JayZo on 11/16/09Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

An amazing performance. Costuming and sets were truly surreal and unforgettable. All of the pieces, especially in Venice, truly came together to bring the location to life. Fantastic job. The ensemble work was beautifully executed, and the performances by the principles were incredible (so much talent!). The Tales of Hoffman, by Opera Colorado, transports the viewer into a surreal and magical world.

    The Tales of Hoffman

by stopher on 11/16/09Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

The opera was great!!! It was my first opera and I figured it would be boring. It was definitely not! The show visually was great and kept my interest up through the whole 3 hours. The singers were amazing, the amount and quality of sound they put forth was incredible. One suggestion would be that if you are short like me not to take a front balcony seat. I sat hunched the whole time to see over the railing, but it was worth it.

    Tales of Hoffmann Delightful

by Tontolina on 11/16/09Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

Outstanding production and performance of Tales of Hoffmann, with the most creative stage sets costumes and interpretation I have ever seen. I will admit to being a bit disconcerted at first by a bawdy Olympia and some of the borderline slapstick routines. Also was a bit distracted by the costuming in Act III, which was a bit out there for me -- but different does not mean worse, just different. The singing was sublime and worth the price of the ticket and more. First time I have been in this theater and it was not only gorgeous, but also the best and most comfortable seating I have ever experienced. We were up in the Loge, off to the right, and the sight line was excellent. At 4'11" I am almost always unable to see over the heads in front of me, but the pitch of the rows in this theater was steep enough to give me a totally unimpeded view. Heaven! Kudos to the cast and orchestra - all in all a really delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

    An interesting experience!

by Nahimana on 11/16/09Ellie Caulkins Opera House - Denver

I have seen many operas in many places in Europe and here in the US and have been passionate about the genre since I was a little girl. I liked the way the unfinished score was dealt with plus the bringing in of "Offenbach" himself as a statue. However, Antonia's mother in a puppet? Various Dr. Miracles conducting all over the stage with lid up batons? It was distracting and didn't do much for the visual effect. The Bacarole was supposed to be sung together as a duet between soprano and mezzo. Here, it was dislodged, each singer doing her own thing. Katherine Rohrer's Muse/Nicklausse was wonderfully acted and sung and Karen Armstrong exceeded my expectations. The male parts, well, the less said the better. Gaetan Laperriere was underpowered as the four villains, and he lacked stage presence and vocal zeal. Not very threatening! Julian Gavin tried hard, but his upper register sounded forced and the lower ones clouded. However, all small roles were excellently sung. Applause to the chorus as well!
