Oklahoma State Cowboys Football History

Oklahoma State University played their first season of football in 1901, when they were still known as the Oklahoma A&M Aggies. The team was not christened as the Cowboys until Oklahoma A&M changed its name to Oklahoma State in 1957. The team was a member of the Big Eight from 1960 through 1995 and joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996.

Since the early 2000s, the Oklahoma State Cowboys have been one of the most competitive college football programs in the country. Head coach Mike Gundy joined the team in 2005 and steered the Cowboys to the 2011 national championship after an overtime win against Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl. Oklahoma State has won over 20 bowl games, including a 2018 Liberty Bowl victory over the Missouri Tigers, and 10 conference titles.

Oklahoma State's most famous player is Barry Sanders, an elusive running back who won the program’s sole Heisman Trophy in 1988 after what many consider the greatest individual season by a running back. He would go on to play 10 seasons for the Detroit Lions as one of the best of all time and has been inducted to both the Pro and College Football Hall of Fame. The squad was also coached by future NFL legend Jimmy Johnson between 1979 and 1983. The Cowboys’ most notable opponent is their fellow Big 12 Conference member, the Oklahoma Sooners. The two teams face off annually as part of the schools' Bedlam Series, which dates back to 1904.

    Jerry World was amazing

by GoCowpokes on 9/3/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

Great venue. Great teams. Great game. A couple of problems. Couldn't hear the PA most of the time. View was good when they were on our end of the field. Overall I had a good experience.

    Great game, awesome stadium!

    by tex4christ on 9/3/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

Cowboys/At&T Stadium is an amazing venue made even more fun by featuring high quality college football action. The stadium seating was divided into an OSU side and an FSU side which provided for some raucous crowd explosions when one side or the other faired well or jeered the referees. The 60-yard wide JerryTron HD video screens are spectacular! Our only complaint: The FSU band didn't march and the acoustics are horrible for marching bands.

Game was awesome as was the venue. Disappointed in selection of souvenirs. Seemed to run out of t-shirts for the game. Also, no programs! How do you have an event like this and not have programs for the game?!?!

    Great venue, Parking too Costly

    by Ken123Retired on 9/2/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

Loved the game, even though we lost. We had nose bleed seat, but the Large Screen help. We parked a long way out as the stadium parking was $45 and other close in parking varied from $30 to $89; ours was $11 and a bus was provided before and after. Be careful as the security at the gate is the same as at an Airport. Overall I would say the cost of seats, food, and drinks are way high for a University football game. You really need to be a craze fan to pay for all this, even if it was great fun. Restrooms were plentiful and very clean!

    Noles are still number 1

by BuckinoleMom on 9/2/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

This is my first time in this stadium and I was impressed. A very good game between FSU and Oklahoma State. I had the best time of my life and I really enjoyed the food and drink that was provided. The huge screens where I can watch the game when other fans are standing up made it very easy for me to enjoy myself.

to start ill say ive been to AT&T stadium a few times before, but never to see a football game. the venue is always amazing! ! incredible building. great sound. great seats. I would have liked if florida state had a merchandise table. living in texas ive had to order all my fsu fan gear online. I was really looking forward to buying a few things. but was disappointed to see there was no merch tables for fsu or osu. the had cowboys stuff to buy and the cowboy classic t shirt. other than that, I had an incredible night. the atmosphere was intense! it was a great game! ! GO NOLES!!

    Parking at ATT Stadium

    by poke71 on 9/2/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

Parking was difficult. Followed the signs only to find the entrance blocked off. Fortunately a bicycle cop rode by and said that we had to go around to the other entrance on the opposite side. Plan on a lot of time to park and walk to the stadium. Also research which lot is closest to you entrance. Our entrance was on the other side of the stadium from where we parked.

Thrilling Start to the College Football Season

by NoleBill on 9/2/14AT&T Stadium - Arlington

At first it looked as though Florida State was going to run away with the game when it was 17-0, but the Cowboys were relentless and adjusted well using #24 Hill to generate yards and set up their big touchdown to #13. Winston was off his game, but Rashad Green was amazing. FSU needs to really work on their kickoff coverage, as this almost cost them the game. Arlington to Arlington baby!!!
