ASU Gammage - Tempe
We left early! The show was terrible. I suggest to go back to the classic version.

Double Thumbs Down!
ASU Gammage - Tempe
This musical was extremely disappointing. I would never pay to see this version again. I love Oklahoma but the realism that was added was horribly done and the show did not flow well at all. Many people did not return after the intermission. People were heckling because of the oddity in the show. Definitely a thumbs down for me.

Amazing reimagined version
ASU Gammage - Tempe
Yes it’s dark and makes you think. That’s not a bad thing. All of this is in the original too. Look for it. Very well done.

Terrible - wast of time and money
ASU Gammage - Tempe
Hard to Hear, Theme was too dark, Dance starting act 2 was too long, out of place and a distraction, Singing was great but other than that a flop.

Genuinely the worst show I have ever seen
The most enjoyable part was counting the number of people leaving mid-show. If you're in the mood to hate watch something, the direction gives plenty of fodder. Go drunk.

Worst play I have ever seen. Totally ruined Oklahoma
ASU Gammage - Tempe
If I wanted a dark experience this was the place to be. It was a crime to ruin an uplifting play

Horror
ASU Gammage - Tempe
The cast was unimpressive (an attempt to be diverse by checking every demographic was obvious), vocals went from off-pitch to changing octaves and then shrieking. The audience jumped and cringed. The new styling was gag worthy. Vain attempts to amuse held a giggle when slapstick was introduced. Then it got dark and dreary with some ridiculous camera projection. It was sad and depressing. Most of the section I was in left before intermission. The rest left at intermission including the ushers. I wished I had. I have never wanted a refund to a show until now.

Huge Disappointment
ASU Gammage - Tempe
I went to ASU Gammage to see Oklahoma! I knew it was a controversial revival production, but I thought it would have some relation to the original Oklahoma!, since it shared every word and the music. Most of the show the characters were standing around talking. There was an extreme sparsity of scenes/changes. The musical (instrument) performance was sub-par, the singing included some good voices, but the staging was less than interesting. A good portion of the audience did not return after intermission. My recollection is the original with choreography by Agnes DeMille, was closer to a ballet than the usual musical. This production had no obvious positives. I didn't like it. In fact I disliked it. I would like to see, after all these years, a real revival of the original. It just didn't need updating. Or, it could have been updated in a richer, more interesting way.

Not my favorite show
ASU Gammage - Tempe
The talent of the actors/vocalists was good. I thought the dance just after intermission an odd addition. I had forgotten the details of the original movie so found it lacked in much of a storyline. Just my opinion. After watching original movie the next day I see why play was done in that way. The music was the redeeming factor of both play and movie.

Very Disappointed
ASU Gammage - Tempe
I am going to start the review with the sound quality was awful. I don't know if it was the performance or ASU Gammage but you could barely hear the words being spoken. If I had never seen Oklahoma before I would have had never been able to figure out the story. At intermission over half of the audience left. It was a complete disappointment. I have seen several shows redone to have a modern flare but this was an epic failure. It should have never been called Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma because it was far from it. They used the music but it was portrayed very poorly. Only 3 of the actors were Broadway quality the rest seemed board & were just saying the lines. Actual watching this performance was like watch a reading of lines with not much real acting to go along. It was a line run through.
