Opening Night Jitters
by BillFromNorman on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma CityGot to the arena about half an hour before faceoff. Asked usher to help me locate my seat. She was very courteous-- and (it turns out) directed me to the right seat in the wrong section. I was settled, when a family came to inform me of the error. I then asked another usher where I should sit-- and was directed to my correct seat. Turns out that I ended up sitting next to a lady (in our correct seats) who had suffered a similar fate-- directed initially to the wrong seat. The seat in 211 gave an obstructed view of the ice-- and therefore was not as good as cheaper seats higher up. Also, the seats were not well anchored; the 300 pound gentlemen sitting to my left did not sit still, and I thought I was going suffer whiplash as a result. Other stuff: the PA announcer was difficult to understand (bad acoustics); Derrick is a "cute" mascot-- but where was he (except for a brief skate before the game)? I was offered no program as I entered-- had to pick one up off the floor; when I used the restroom, I found that there were two entrances/exits-- but towels were located at only one of them-- and I had to "push" my way through a crowd , going the length of the room, just to dry my hands. Had a pizza-- which was so dry, it tasted like dried sauce on cardboard. "Little stuff"-- but too many incidents of "little stuff." I'll come back-- but not for a while. The opening night "jitters'" have to be worked out and overcome.
