    Opening Night Jitters

by BillFromNorman on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Got to the arena about half an hour before faceoff. Asked usher to help me locate my seat. She was very courteous-- and (it turns out) directed me to the right seat in the wrong section. I was settled, when a family came to inform me of the error. I then asked another usher where I should sit-- and was directed to my correct seat. Turns out that I ended up sitting next to a lady (in our correct seats) who had suffered a similar fate-- directed initially to the wrong seat. The seat in 211 gave an obstructed view of the ice-- and therefore was not as good as cheaper seats higher up. Also, the seats were not well anchored; the 300 pound gentlemen sitting to my left did not sit still, and I thought I was going suffer whiplash as a result. Other stuff: the PA announcer was difficult to understand (bad acoustics); Derrick is a "cute" mascot-- but where was he (except for a brief skate before the game)? I was offered no program as I entered-- had to pick one up off the floor; when I used the restroom, I found that there were two entrances/exits-- but towels were located at only one of them-- and I had to "push" my way through a crowd , going the length of the room, just to dry my hands. Had a pizza-- which was so dry, it tasted like dried sauce on cardboard. "Little stuff"-- but too many incidents of "little stuff." I'll come back-- but not for a while. The opening night "jitters'" have to be worked out and overcome.

    Barons a no show

by Holmstrom on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Love me some hockey. Looking foward to the 1st game for the Barons in OKC and they looked lack luster and tired. It's only 1 game but hope they step it up a couple of knotches as the year proceeds.

    OKC Barons

by Flintstone666 on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Too bad we lost on the opener, but the crowd was fired up and the team seemed to be happy to be there. You can really tell the difference in the move up in league status by the hard checking and slamming the shots. Hope they have more time to practice together before they get into the season too far.

    cox center is very nice

by RK6052 on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

We went to watch OKC v HOU, AHL hockey season opener from Hou. The Cox Center was a very nice place. I was surprized be how much team stuff was being sold, about 90% more stuff then what our team sells at our place the Toyota Center in Houston. All we have is 2 booths and the Cox Center has a whole store. The people running the place where excellent we had some trouble with our tickets, but was reslove in a hurry. We just miss the warmups, but were in our seats to watch the game. Would like to thank all the staff for helping to get the problem fixed quickly.

    Baron's First Game

by Art3 on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Even though the Baron's lost their first game, it was enjoyable. It was also good being back in the Myriad again. My only complaint, the tickets I purchased (seats 11 and 12) ended up being on a handycapped reserved row (which stopped at seat 10). After standing in line at the box office for the second time, missing the opening faceoff and not getting it resolved, we finally just went back in and picked two empty seats.

    Barons hockey is a blast!

by ThedivineE on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

The Barons hockey game was exciting and full of energy! From the game to the promotional activities, there was never a dull moment! The only thing that was a disappointment, was I could not understand what Duke was saying on the video for hockey etiquette. I will definitely be attending another Barons hockey game!!

OKC Baron First Home Game, forgettable

by pinewick on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

First, awful sound system!!!! Fix it NOW!!, or I won't return. Could not understand anything most importantly player introductions . Couldn't tell you the name of any players except by looking at the back of uniforms. Not enough hoopla, better go to a thunder game and take notes (and I am a hockey fan much more than a basketball fan. Mr Funk has the resources and I know that he wants the best.

    Barons Disappoint

by dmur on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Terribly boring game atmosphere with lame fan participation games between periods and annoying music. As a step up from the CHL, I was expecting much more from an AHL experience and was severely disappointed. The former CHL OKC league, the Blazers put on a much more lively show that was entertaining even if the game wasn't going our way. The Cox Center with it's outdated facilities and high school gymnasium like restrooms didn't help the experience. We probably won't go again unless we get free tickets.

    hockey time!

by kittycat122 on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Opening night was great! The arena was great! The fan store was great! The fans were great! The only thing that would have been better was if the team had won. Oh well, they will improve.

    slow start for our Barons

by oklaokie on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Expected a lot more fanfare and hoopla at the Barons' very first game. No different than any other regular season game anywhere. Thought perhaps there should be more give-aways so people who did attend would be wearing Barons' everything to get their name and logo out in public to continue to generate more interest. Impossible lines to buy food and beverages, gave up because lines were just too long and moving way too slowly. Enjoyed the game. Have already picked out my two fave players (#7 & #16). Maybe could have done mini profiles of the players and played them throughout the evening on the big screens so people could begin to get to know the players. How about a Barons' theme song? Fun night but definitely left without being in a hurry to buy more tickets.

    Home opener for the Barons

by OKDUSTGHOSTHUNTER on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

The Barons i feel, wore themselves out in the first 10 minutes. Is the team going to be good, maybe, to early to tell. I had a great time none the less.

Love going to hockey games, crowd was great, my only complain is that we bought our tickets online and had to wait in line with everyone that was just purchasing them there at the game. We selected will call for delivery. They should have just a selected window for will call like they do at the ford center.

    Barons Hockey

by Clint1310 on 10/11/10Cox Convention Center Arena - Oklahoma City

Barons hockey is a good product. There is a noticeable difference in quality from the old Blazers. The players are bigger, faster, and more skilled. The only problem was the sound system in the Cox Center is horrible. The crowd was unable to hear who received penalties or scored goals. The only time anyone was able to hear was when the crowd was almost completely quiet. The sound system ruined the player introductions. The first player didn't even hear his name called.

Surprising how big the players were and still the ability to skate is there. Found out later the guys had only 1 day to practice together as a team due to the Oilers keeping them in their camp so long. Passing was horrible and that is now explained with lack of practice. Very excited about future games, we haven't seen hockey on this level, looking forward to going again.

I am not a real big hockey person but I bought the tickets for my husbands birthday. We both had a wonderful time. The game was good and our seats were awesome. It turned out to be a wonderful birthday present.
