Ohio State Buckeyes Men's Basketball History
Ohio State first fielded a basketball team in 1898 and played its games through 1919 at an on-campus building known as the Armory. In 1912, the Buckeyes joined the Big Nine conference. Four years later, the league was rechristened as the Big Ten, its current name.
Over the years, Ohio State has been guided to success by several notable coaches, including Fred Taylor, who helmed the team between 1959 and 1976, and Jim O'Brien, whose tenure stretched from the late '90s to the early '00s. Future NBA greats (and Basketball Hall of Famers) John Havlicek and Jerry Lucas, as well as 2010 Naismith College Player of the Year Evan Turner, have also passed through the program. The Buckeyes' main competitors tend to be their fellow Big Ten members, although their biggest rival is the Michigan Wolverines.
Currently coached by Chris Holtmann, who took over in the 2017-'18 season, the Columbus-based Buckeyes have made 11 appearances in the NCAA Final Four, winning the championship in 1960 and taking home two NIT championships, in 1986 and 2008.

Ohio State Buckeyes at the Schottenstein Center
The Buckeyes play in the Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center (often shortened to the Schottenstein Center), which opened in 1998 and is the largest arena in the Big Ten, seating 19,500 for basketball. Appropriately, the school boasts a vocal, robust student fan base that cheers on the team in a section known as the Buckeye NutHouse.
The Ohio State Buckeyes’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in November at home as the Buckeyes face off against Oakland. The Buckeyes play their final game of the regular season in New Brunswick against Rutgers. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:

I was disappointed in the parking for this event. It sold out and there was a problem with parking that many people. We were stuck in traffic for an hour and had a difficult time finding a parking spot. Because of this, we missed most of the 1st half.
No band at the Buckeye basketball game vs Wisconsin 1/3/2020. Just not the same without TBDBITL!
Cramped seating and rows. Impossible to sit comfotably with a coat or food/drinks. Place was clearly built to maximize seats without regard to comfort. Scoreboards should be sponsored by optomtrists as it is a eye test to see the score. Youcan see the masdice logos for both teams, butforget seeing the score, timeouts left or fouls. Overall a terrible experience my family and I am not likely to repeat.
It was Easy peasy. Fast quick and smooth for a last minute purchase
Things went very well, we were a little nervous but things went very smooth and quick.
Very good to go back to the original place to see the Buckeyes play. St johns brought back a lot of memories of the days of the great teams at OSU. I really enjoyed being there.
It was a fabulously fun night! Seats were great! Memory maker for me even though the game ended a blowout.
Easy to find parking and getting into arena. Staff was friendly. Seats were good, good access to restrooms and concessions. Game itself was a little disappointing since OSU did not win. Exciting last 5 minutes minutes and OT.
Great game, great arena. Affordable, cold beer, good people
Went with my son and husband ! My son is a senior in high school so it was pretty special time to spend with him . We had a great time! And seeing the past to present captains was a treat !! We love the Buckeyes, always a fan!!
Great game great experience staff very helpful and knowledgeable about getting you to and from your seats and getting you in and out of the stadium and parking, great job Ohio State
I had a great experience using Ticket Master. They had everything efficient for my event, down to the last detail. They shared where to park, what food venders were available and showed us easily where our seats were.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great mother/daughter time. Also awesome watching senior night and another Buckeye win
Great experience, I was a little concerned with buying tickets on the 300 level, but was pleasantly surprised. Very good view and didn't feel like I was too far from the floor. Overall game and experience was wonderful and would highly recommend.
Loved it all. Very fun evening. Entire family had a great time.
The BUCKEYES Basketball is back. The Schott was thumping. Everyone was engaged. Thanks Coach Holtman and THE BUCKEYES.
We had a great time and the seats were great, even in the nosebleeds!
Sold out and it was awesome. We love our Buckeyes.
