Ohio State Buckeyes Men's Basketball History

Ohio State first fielded a basketball team in 1898 and played its games through 1919 at an on-campus building known as the Armory. In 1912, the Buckeyes joined the Big Nine conference. Four years later, the league was rechristened to its current name as the Big Ten.

Over the years, Ohio State has been guided to success by several notable coaches, including Fred Taylor, who helmed the team between 1959 and 1976, and Jim O'Brien, whose tenure stretched from the late ’90s to the early ’00s. Future Basketball Hall of Famers John Havlicek and Jerry Lucas as well as 2010 Naismith College Player of the Year Evan Turner have also passed through the program. The Buckeyes' main competitors tend to be their fellow Big Ten members, although their biggest rival is the Michigan Wolverines.

The Columbus-based Buckeyes have earned 31 appearances in the NCAA March Madness tournament, making 10 advancements to the Final Four and winning the national championship in 1960. Meanwhile, Ohio State has played in the National Invitation Tournament 10 times, taking home titles in 1986 and 2008 and advancing to the quarterfinals in 2024.

  • Great Seats

by Terry on 10/29/25Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Our seats were in the lower section behind the basket. We were sitting to the left of the basket and were able to see the shots close up. The price and service fee were extremely reasonable even tho it was an exhibition game.

  • OSU vs Michigan basketball

by Catlady on 2/19/25Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This game was a great battle between Ohio State and Michigan basketball. Unfortunately, Ohio State was unable to come out on top. We had great seats...a little higher up than I would have liked, but they were center court seats. The game was sold out and the atmosphere was electric. One of the better games I have been to recently.

  • Go Bucks!

by Eacara on 2/19/25Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Such an awesome experience! Even with a close loss to the team up North, the game had such an amazing atmosphere, the staff were welcoming and helpful, and will plan more OSU basketball games in the future.

  • no 6pm starts

  • OSU Men's Basketball 2025 Big 10

by PJ man on 1/6/25Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

Very light showing for a Big Ten matchup at home. I was disappointed that the Ohio State pep band was not in attendance and only about 1/2 full in the upper bowl. Let's support our buckeyes this year folks!

  • Easy access, fun event

    by youre_right74 on 1/1/25Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

We saw the OSU men's basketball game against Indiana State on Christmas break 2024 when we were in Columbus visiting. The tickets were super reasonably priced, so it was a great family event. Parking was easy. Entry to the arena was easy. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who's considering it!

  • Love the new seating arrangement

by Lex Lemmon on 3/29/24Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the new seating arrangement for the NIT without the court side seats. You could see the sideline, and the smaller upfront band area made them more a part of the game. I just wish I could buy the great seats I got for $22 each as my season tickets! (Section 222 row B seats 1&2) There’s something wrong with your seat license allotment program. If butts you want in the seats, make them available to people who go to every game (the popcorn and beer are good, too)

  • Place is electric

by Camobubba on 3/29/24Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue, love seeing the buckeyes there… place is is electric and just fun to be there

  • Ohio State Basketball at The Schottenstein Center

by Lolo on 3/29/24Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I had a wonderful time cheering for the Buckeyes, everything from parking to getting though security, presenting my ticket, dinner prior to the game, ushers, fans, cleanliness and fun, can't wait to do it again!

  • Ticketmaster seat selection was erroneous

by Bob on 3/28/24Schottenstein Center - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

I ordered a ticket for the NIT game versus Virginia Tech online, using the seat selection availability. The seat I clicked on was supposed to be in the ADA seats - Section 128, Row S, seat 14. However, when I arrived at the arena, the seat was actually not in the ADA section, but a few rows down, on the aisle. Fortunately, the usher allowed me to sit in the ADA chair I thought I had selected in the first place. Fortunately, no one showed up to sit in the seat the usher allowed me to sit in.
