Excellent Eclectic Fare

Well done! Richard Strauss' "Don Quixote" once again showed the composer's instrumental prowess, whatwith one foot in 19th century Wagnerian tonality and the other in 20th century dissonance. However, from a soloist's stance, regarding the 'cello and viola solos, it would have given more "bite" to the performance if these instruments were tuned a microtone sharper for an edgier tonality to this piece. Adam Neiman's performance of the Tchaikovsky was perhaps the most crisp -- in a positive sense -- that I'd ever heard. Hopefully, we should be hearing more from this young, locally-trained pianist. And, on a curious note (pun intended), although there was reportedly no amplification, from where I sat there was a small but discernible echo effect, which may have been an acoustic artifact, but which didn't detract from the performance; however, this didn't explain why there were two sets of speakers on either side of the stage.
