Neither a dance show nor a circus, Nutcracker Rouge's staging provides aspects of each -- unimpressively. The show's narrative is mostly incoherent, and the tediously repetitive performances are mostly a gratuitous excuse to expose a great deal of flesh, both male and female, even though genitals are covered, and breasts sport pasties. The cast seems to think the show is erotic, but if it had been so, I wouldn't have left at intermission.

by mermaidtail on 12/17/13Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Overall, I really enjoyed the show. There were moments that it felt a bit longer than was necessary, but I'm glad I went to see the show! It was fun, festive and sexy. All the dancers were incredible! Very talented. The singers were great!

Gorgeous show, not a complaint to mention. Couple of square audience members seemed uncomfortable with homoeroticism and gender play... those people probably need to loosen up, because it was exquisitely handled.

Fast paced, amusing to hilarious; impressive artistic merit and athleticism; great singing by Mae West (?)

    Nutcracker doesn't disappoint

by Pandadoc on 12/15/13Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

something for everybody - incredibly clever. I have seen this troupe before in Brooklyn - Snow White - they take old classics and spin them into new favorites. Bravo.

While I'll admit this type of entertainment isn't for everyone, I thought this production was absolutely fabulous! Great dancing, great acting, great singing, beautiful costumes, and hilarious! Enough skin to satisfy a craving but not so much that it was overly vulgar, just as burlesque should be. My only complaint is that the plot was good up until the end, where the nutcracker himself was sort of thrown in. Other than that, for those who tend to love culty campy entertainment, this is an absolute must see!

    A superb show!

by AAreviewer on 12/14/13Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

While only slightly based on the traditional Nutcracker, this is a fantastic combination of dance, song and aerial acts. Also, it's rather sexy.

Nutcracker Rouge was brilliant and hilarious!

by nittybrain on 12/14/13Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

The Nutcracker Rouge performance by Austin Mccormick is genius. The outstanding cast of Laura Careless, Jeff Takacs, Shelley Watson, Tyler Phillips, Allison Ulrich, Cassady Bonjo, Alexander Hill, Nico Maffey, Davon Rainey, Molly Griffin, Jakob Karr, Katrina Cunningham, Courtney Giannone, Marisol Cabrera, Nicholas Katen, and Kana Kimura was fabulous, so entertaining, avante garde, and twisted, that I am seeing this performance again!! The Cyr Wheel performance by Courtney Giannone was incredible too...done in such a small area with such grace and precision, was overly impressive. Thank you to all of the cast and to Austin McCormick.

Actually I thought the performance was quite original. A Burlesque version of the Nutcracker. The performers were fabulous. Pulled off feats of athleticism with grace and beauty of professional dancers. Combined in the first act with the music of the nutcracker moved the show along quickly. Second Act was more original. Would recommend for a fine night original, sexy, unpretentious theater.

    Nutcracker Rouge was hysterical

by Emmy1234 on 12/9/13Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

I was the funniest and most entertaining Nutcracker version I have ever seen. For once I didn't fall asleep. The crew and setup was very cool. The only thing I can come close to complain about was the bubbly and the Cabernet in cans. I would have liked to have had something nicer to drink, Having said that there was hard liqueur available just not nice wine. Also we changed our seats and sat a bit further back for better view. Totally recommend it! Do not take the kids under 12 though!!

A "Naughty" Nutcracker - Bring It On

by LIPhil45 on 12/9/13Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Wonderful, surprising, highly sensual, erotic, campy vaudeville. A "Nutcracker" unlike any other you've seen. The show oozes with frivolity, double entente;all set in a smoky sexual atmosphere. The emcee is a combo of "Mae West and a campy Bette Midler" who steals the show with her seductiveness and bawdy interaction with the audience. The corps have been carefully chosen for their parts and their professional ballet/voice training shows. Absolutely, not to be missed for the holiday season.
