    crowd management

by valleymom on 12/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

We arrived at the Fox Theater 30 minutes before the performance was scheduled to start (4pm). There were 3 lines to enter the theater; none of them were moving yet- the doors were still closed. At about 3:45, the doors opened. Many patrons missed the first 10-15 minutes of the performance. I've been to many events at the Fox and have never experienced this before. It was very disappointing.

    Disappointing

by MC on 12/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The ballet itself was probably a good show but I can't say for sure. The Fox Theater in Detroit is old was supposed to be updated after it had been closed. The seats are uncomfortable, and the rows are too close together. There is not sufficient incline to allow to see past the other patrons in the theater. Simply adjusting the rows to allow viewing between the patrons sitting ahead would do wonders for viewing the stage. The Fox is historic and beautifully renovated, I only wish they had considered the audience as much as the lobby.

    Ok dancing, no live orchestra

by Helen on 12/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The music was a recording which was surprising for the Fox theater. The ballet quality was ok. Compared to the pre-pandemic years, the choreography was more simple and the acrobatic pair (Arabic dance) was also not that strong. Young kids who participated would have been good for a local school performance, but not for a real ballet performance at the Fox theater.

    Show was great but….

by DebbieJ on 12/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The show was, as always, great. I purchased a photo with Santa and gift pack and couldn’t find Santa and didn’t have time to wait in the long line for the gift pack which was a huge disappointment. It was like $50!!

    Not the traditional Nutcracker

by Arlene on 12/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The scenery and dancers were amazing. I did not particularly care for the interpretation of the Nutcracker in the second act. The pas de deux performed by the doves was breathtaking as were the costumes and scenery but I prefer the traditional performances of the Nutcracker. I would not discourage anyone from seeing this ballet. The dancers are amazing and the costumes and scenery are beautiful. As a side note, the use of students from a local dance academy was brilliant. The children added a lovely presence to the show and were given an opportunity they will never forget.

    COULD have been amazing

by Sad I paid so much for good seats... on 12/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The venue and show were 5 stars. HOWEVER, the ushers continued to let guests enter the performance after it began, resulting in ZERO visibility for NEARLY THE ENTIRE FIRST HALF of the performance. I have honestly never seen anything quite like it! We are not talking about a 'few' late arrivals, this was heards of people entering and disrupting the show for over a half hour. Guests seated in the area became disgruntled, angrily questioned ushers... who refused to sympathize due to 'event protocol' as claimed. This was supposed to be a special evening and the rude behavior of inconsiderate late guests ruined a great thing. If the venue or show can get their protocol correct, it COULD BE AMAZING.

Performance Top Knotch but Issues with Theater

by SRhodes on 12/13/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The performance was great. My biggest issue was with the theater. I have been to Fair Park several times and this is the first time that they have let people bring food into the performance. All you could hear during the entire performance was chip bags and soda bottles opening. It was extremely distracting.

    Amazing Show!

by ProudMum on 12/13/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Loved the show - stunning colors, beautiful music, and of course amazing dancers. Music Hall is a beautiful venue, as well.

    Magical, beautiful performances.

by B.diggah on 12/13/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The show was beautifully put together. The dancers were amazing. Very magical. Almost puts you into a calm trance watching the ballet dancers in a group. My only complaint was the lady behind us who felt the need to hoot and holler during the performances as if it was a baseball game. Its a ballet, a gentle applause at the end of the performance is enough. We don't do all that yelling stuff. Have some decency. Other than that everything was lovely and would glady attend again.

    Good show!

by 81 year old lady on 12/13/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The performance was good, however, it would have been better if there had been a live orchestra. This version of Nutcracker was great. Costumes were colorful and children were precious. In 2019 Christmas season went to Lincoln Center, in NYC, and saw the Nutcracker. Performance was good, but not what was expected. Also, have seen other performances of the Nutcracker over the years. A couple of years ago the performance at Bass Hall, in Fort Worth, Texas, was outstanding. Overall, the performance at the Music Hall, in Dallas, on December 10, 2023, was good. As stated earlier, did need an orchestra.

I actually attended this show twice. Once in general seating and the second in the suites. Both times i found the staff to be very helpful and professional.

    Beautiful Production

by The Lloyd Family on 12/13/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Mom, Dad, and our 9 year-old daughter loved it! The costumes are so beautiful, even from far away in the balcony! The dancers were perfect, and we loved how they incorporated local children into the show. The performer in the giant ring was awesome, and we loved the humor of the giant animals.

New performance of a classic show

by Brit on 12/13/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

This show was lovely! The costumes were very jewel toned and beautiful. The inclusion of the children throughout was so sweet. I wish some aspects were a bit more “traditional” (Sugar Plum Fairy AND Snow Queen, a toy nutcracker used in the beginning, Clara being guided through the land, etc.) but recognize this is just another way of performing this age-old tale! Only issue was lighting - so many times dancers were in shadows when we want to see it all!

    A disappointment

by MP on 12/13/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Nutcracker is a family tradition and I'm glad my daughter was too young to understand that this specific production was a bit of a failure from the performance standpoint. The biggest issue was the quality of "professional"dancers (not the cute kiddos). Professional dancers could not synchronize their moves for the life of them, especially in the first act, and the female dancers were so much worse than males. In dances with couples - again, no synchronization and off-beat. One of the dancers actually fell in the first act (but to his credit had a quick and graceful recovery). I've seen the Nutcracker about a million times and this was definitely one of the worst performances.

    Nutcracker was Disappointing

by T4Texas on 12/13/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The performance was the worst we had ever seen. It felt like grade school children performing rather than the Moscow ballet. My wife and daughter were looking forward to attending, but it was so horrible, they left after intermission.
