About

The mysterious nothing, nowhere. is the project of Vermont-based musician Joe Mulherin, a singer, rapper, and songwriter who mixes cathartic emo-rap, trap, and indie rock styles in equal measure. After building up his profile with a handful of small independent releases, he made a splash with 2017's Reaper, his critically lauded second album and debut for Pete Wentz 's DCD2 label. His bloodlust EP, a collaboration with blink-182 's Travis Barker , was released in 2019, followed by the album Trauma Factory in 2021.

A native of Foxborough, Massachusetts, Mulherin began playing acoustic guitar at the age of 12, first attempting emo-style versions of popular rap songs. After devoting time to a series of short-lived bands throughout his teens and twenties, he decided to work solo. Again merging elements of hip-hop with guitar-based instrumentation, and citing songwriters such as Sufjan Stevens , Owen , and (Sandy) Alex G among his inspirations, he started using the moniker nothing, nowhere. in April 2015. At first, Mulherin kept his identity hidden, covering his face in promotional photos and making a habit of wearing hoods while performing. His first album, the nothing, nowhere. lp, appeared in June 2015, followed by the EP Bummer later the same year. Working on some of the tracks with producers he'd met on music-sharing sites, the latter was recorded in his parents' basement in Vermont around the time he committed to pursuing music full-time. The EP Who Are You? followed on Synergy Records in early 2016, and in 2017, the album Reaper arrived on DCD2 and Equal Vision Records . It featured appearances by Dashboard Confessional and Lil West and raised Mulherin's profile significantly.

After signing with Fueled by Ramen , nothing, nowhere. released his third full-length, 2018's Ruiner. He returned the following year with bloodlust, a collaborative EP with drummer Travis Barker that included a featured spot by blackbear . In early 2020, nothing, nowhere. issued the single "Nightmare" just prior to kicking off a lengthy world tour. A longtime vegan, straight edge, and conservationist, Mulherin used the shows to promote green touring and partnered with local environmental charities along the way. That July, DCD2 and Fueled by Ramen issued One Takes, Vol. 1, a collection of stripped-down versions of his songs that he had been sharing on social media. Vol. 1 selections included a second version of "Nightmare" and a cover of American Football 's "Never Meant." Later that month, the new song "Lights (4444)" appeared, and by the end of 2020, multiple songs had been shared from his upcoming long-player Trauma Factory. The album was released in February of 2021. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi

    Incredible

Can’t wait for you to come to Minneapolis this fall! The two shows I’ve been to so far were incredible, worth the 6 hour drive to Chicago both times. Hopefully Ticketmaster can remove the 1 star review as it has nothing to do with nothing, nowhere. GO SEE HIM PLAY LIVE, TOTALLY WORTH IT!! 🖤🖤🔨⚰️

    Great experience.

by Ash on 6/6/22Irving Plaza - New York

Loved it. Kids trying to shove is a given but I didn’t realize how old I was until I started getting anxious at the obnoxious teenagers pushing their way to the front haha. But all in all the concert was perfect. Loved the downstairs lounge and the gender neutral bathroom!

Why did the show start at 6?

by T on 6/1/22Irving Plaza - New York

I am going to assume this was either a venue error or scheduling error on someones part. I initially ordered these tickets for my boyfriends birthday months in advance. The night before the concert I went to check everything was alright with my tickets and I realized that the show was at 6pm. Normally shows in new york start no earlier then 8pm, so it allows time for people outside of the city to come in with less traffic. Well, we were not able to attend the show because the traffic was so bad from new jersey and if we wanted to catch a train it would've taken us three hours to ride into the city. We both work full time so there was no possible way to get there unless we took the day off from work. I wish I actually could have seen the show because I was so hyped for all the artists, but just a warning for next time. Please do not make any show in NYC at 6pm, a lot of people will miss out on money and a great performance.

This marked the second time seeing him at a show, and the vibes were just as fun as the first time that I saw him, which was intimate.

by Nick on 5/30/22Irving Plaza - New York

This was truly one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to! The atmosphere of the venue was awesome, and all 4 artists who performed were amazing and knew how to hype up the crowd.

    Ah-mazing

    by Ginger on 5/26/22

I waited 3 years for this show since the Vid ruined two others in my area. Was not disappointed at all. Loved every minute of it and will 110% be seeing Nothing, Nowhere again. I love the venue Mr. Smalls. I've been seeing shows here for almost 20 years and it feels like home. Always an amazing sound. Great, great night!

    Best show ever

by Tayzer on 5/18/22Neptune Theatre - Seattle

I’ve waited years to see nothing.nowhere & I FINALLY got to see him at the Neptune. Definitely worth the wait! There were five opening bands, which was honesty a little much. I was here for five hours simply because the openers took so long. I loved all the opening bands except for the last one, which I didn’t really feel like they fit. But nothing.nowhere was amazing & even played three more songs after he was supposed to be done. The crowd was amazing, he was amazing, the sound was great. Really loved the Neptune theater too, except how the bathrooms & merch were upstairs, made me a bit claustrophobic after the show was done. Overall, wonderful experience, hopefully I can go again someday!

    Best in person performances

by Ethereal Narwhal on 5/17/22Neptune Theatre - Seattle

The venue was perfect size to hear the bands no matter where you were. Nothing, nowhere was even better live which are big shoes to fill. He did great and would definitely come see him again if he came back to Washington.

The show was amazing, every band/artist absolutely rocked

by Connor Kaplan on 5/14/22The Observatory North Park - San Diego

The crowd was a little bit dead for the night, however the show was amazing. Each performer outdid themselves, and it is a show I will remember forever.

Venue was so so but bands were great

by Jacob on 4/27/22Baltimore Soundstage - Baltimore

The venue kept having technical issues during every set and it was annoying that you couldn’t hear one song but the next was overly loud. Get your act together soundstage
