Beatles Fans' Must
by Jimsdrums on 10/10/10Scranton Cultural Center - ScrantonRating: 5 out of 5NEPA Philharmonic is amazing! I saw them a few times and they are always great! They started the show with a classical medley of Beatles tunes....this lasted about 10 minutes.
Then the Beatles impersonators came out and played a few early classics in matching suits and ties from the "Meet the Beatles" era. They quickly changed into Sgt. Peppers outfits and continued with mid-60s classics. With backing from the Philharmonic, the music was very true to the original studio recordings. After a brief intermission, they retured dressed in outfits reflective of the more indiviualistic styles adopted by the band members near the time of their breakup. They played several late-era Beatles songs as well as a few from member solo careers.
A thouroughly appreciative audience urged the band to play some encores and they willingly obliged. After the final curtian call and the house lights came up, and the near capacity crowd filed out, you can hear giddy conversation on how good the show was. The audience age range from 5 to 100 with every generation represented equally.
The only low point for me was this: As soon as the band took the stage, my 5yr old daughter said "Daddy, whay are the all holding their guitars the same way?" I had no answer. Even a 5yr old knows Paul McCartney plays left-handed. For a band that goes through the effort to do the look with precise costumes, accents, and musicianship, I cannot understand how they choose to overlook this major item. You may think it might be hard to find a left-handed bass player, but that's not the case at all. As a musician myself I can tell you that for someone who already knows how to play guitar, it would only take him a few months to teach himself how to play with the other hand. This is really an inexcusable oversight for a band that strives so hard for authenticity. Otherwise the band was very talented and very cordial.
