Unfortunately, the seating diagram online did not reflect that there were rather steep steps to mezzanine seating, but no handrail. We were unable to reach our seats. With help from a kind usher, we were reseated, but at the rear of the highest balcony. The theatre should make seating access more clear on their website.
Was totally bowled over by this larger than life opera. A great performance, the leads were so talented.
Outstanding Violetta !!! Other principals were excellent. Germont comes to mind .Stand in tenor voice-over worked smoothly as principal Alfredo was incapacitated . Orchestra was wonderful. And the colorful sets worked with the saturated colour. Great afternoon.
We recently went to the opera. It was a great experience. The music and singings was first class and Memorial Auditorium is beautiful. We enjoyed it so much we immediately got tickets for the opera in February.
I loved my experience at La Traviata. I've attended several operas put on by the North Carolina Opera and have always been impressed by the performances. I also was impressed by the staff at the venue. They were very friendly and welcoming. I'm already looking forward to my next opera!
I attended for a night out to treat myself to something nice. This program was expertly organized and hosted. Whether I was coming in from the parking lot or trying to find my seat, I felt like a vip guest at a grand party. It was clear that the intention was for each guest to enjoy the performance and focus on their evening. The intermissions were very clear with ample time to return to our seats with out a stampede and great consideration was given to those needed access. The performance itself was exemplary! And perfectly casted. In conversation, even those of us who knew or frequented the opera were blown away. Thank you for a masterfully done evening!
I had my tickets on my phone so entrance was fast. At entrance they gave us clear directions to our seats and once inside the theater they pointed us on the exact chairs. We were at the very front but view was perfect, not too close like I would have expected. Show was a little late starting but show was AMAZING!! Can’t wait to go again for a different one!
I couldn't believe the fantastic theatre and seating would allow such a performance with such talent to be undermined by technical microphone issues. We had to strain to hear. I understand that one of the cast was performing for the last time. Too bad we couldn't hear her very well.
There was a backup in getting in so the opera had to be delayed. I got there early and didn’t have problems. However, I did note that to check in using my iPhone’s wallet it took longer than if I had tickets in hand. She had to get it just right to register and then I had to go to the next ticket in my wallet. There were 3 of us on my Wallet so it did take longer to get all three checked in. It was not difficult, but I wonder if that contributed to the delay in getting people through the line.
Great music and drama. The scenery was well developed and transitions between scenes professional.
A great performance given by many talented individuals. The opera pulled you in to the story even with meager set, by design, of the residents of Catfish Row.
The production, cast, performances -- all excellent!
I have seen many shows and plays there and have always been pleased with the venue and staff.
This was an exceptional performance, a must see for anyone who appreciates American opera.
This was the first time NC Opera (in conjuction with Opera Carolina) mounted a production of Gerwin's 1935 masterpiece. It was an excellent performance, accompanied by a full orchestra.
We weren't able to make it to the opera because the traffic near the concert hall in Raleigh was so bad. We left Durham an hour before the opera was scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm, but when we got to the turnoff for the concert hall there was a horrible backup, and it became clear that we would probably miss at least the first hour of the opera. So we turned around and went back to Durham. I realize that this is not North Carolina Opera's fault, but the traffic situation impacts the experience severely. I won't buy tickets to the opera again unless and until the traffic situation is improved.
The opera was fantastic, the music and the singers were first rate! Only criticism is the subtitles didn’t seem to match.
The performance greatly exceeded my expectations. The cast, set and performance was fantastic and we enjoyed it very much.
A wonderful experience! The performance was spectacular!! The staff were all helpful, courteous and knowledgeable!! The performers were superb!! I can't wait to see their next performance. Thanks to all that helped to make this performance a wonderful, memorable experience!
