About

Due in part to front man Charlie Fink’s distinctively abysmal voice, Noah and the Whale characterized themselves as a quirky fixture among the alternative genre for their trademark fusion of folk and electronic elements in 2008, produced by frequent employment of the fiddle, harmonium, harmonica and ukelele. Over the course of the next two albums, 2009's The First Days of Spring and 2011’s Last Night on Earth, changes to the band's lineup, including the exit of singer Laura Marling, resulted in defining shifts to Noah and the Whale's original sound. Their latest album, Heart of Nowhere, premiered May 6, 2013 via Mercury Records.

Noah and the Whale was Phenomenal!

by Anonymous on 10/13/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! Charlie has great presence and banters well with the crowd. The vibe was lively and fun and so easy to dance to. They somehow made their already amazing music a thousand times better!

Noah and the Whale was completely awesome!!

by hlovesr on 10/13/13The Pageant - St Louis

They had an awesome concert! They drew us in with stories, and thoughts on their songs and it was just one of the best concerts I've been to, and I've seen many concerts through the years! I would recommend everyone see them! Lets make them HUGE!! Next time they come through here maybe it will be a huge venue... we had a great time and were very sad when it was over! We could've listened to them all night long! If you get a chance to see them I would say you'd be a fool to miss out! A++++ concert! They are wonderful! I will be watching for new albums.... and for them to come back!

    Impressive

by AlternativeGirl22 on 10/12/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Traveled from Detroit to Chicago to see LP, Noah and the Whale opener. Was disappointed to learn that she was replaced. Though the replacement was not my thing, NATW were outstanding. I was not familiar with this band, but every song was catchy and the performance was polished. Also, if you have never been to the House of Blues, I would highly recommend. We were lucky to snag a table which are available with a 2 drink minimum. I gave a 4 star only because the opener I wanted to see was canceled and the replacement was no match.

From their fist song to their last. It was so awesome and beautiful to listen to! Their music is different than any others I have ever herd. If you love indie folk! You'll never forget this band.

Amazing show! Heard about Noah and the Whale from a friend, he came up to visit and we went to the show. Only knew a few of their songs from hearing them a few times, and I thought it was going to be a pretty mello, folk-y show. Totally wrong! I loved every song, and these guys rocked out HARD! Live violin was astounding. Would see them again in a heartbeat. Great intimate venue too.

    N&TW Better than expected

by CMDog on 11/7/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Very good opening and overall more energetic and powerful than I expected. However, middle section of show focused primarily very slow songs and lulled me to sleep. I really enjoyed Tom Hobden on the fiddle!

was really really great. except the encore was incredibly depressing and left the evening with a negative note. But it was a great concert.

    LOVED!

by Anonymous on 11/7/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

They were awesome and not just because they're my favorite band. I brought someone with me who had never heard a song from them and he really liked them too. He said they were classy. The opening act wasn't my taste but she was alright. We got there 2 hours before the doors opened and we met Urby but no one else :-/

    Amazing live performers

by CySharp on 11/7/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I've seen Noah and the Whale several times now and each time is different and fantastic. They do a great job of playing everything you want to hear but, with some twists and changes so it doesn't just sound like they could be playing the album.

    Noah and the Whale: Phenomenal

    by b8thnote on 6/30/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I knew I loved this band from day one, but I had no idea how amazing they really were until seeing them live. Definitely the best concert I have ever been to and their CDs seem bland in comparison. It is so refreshing to watch someone whose passion is so real.

Noah and the Whale left me speechless

by RobCo on 6/18/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

i saw them at variety playhouse in ATL and it was incredible. the venue was small and congenial and made me feel like i was part of something. lightning messed up the electronics at one point but they made a witty quip about it and kept going with an acoustic song. the band played nearly everyone of their songs it seemed and even came back for an encore of 2 more songs.

It's a talent to put texture and life to sound off of a CD.
