MSG not very welcoming for NIT

by TheEdgeNYC on 11/30/14Madison Square Garden - New York City

It seems MSG did not really want to host this event on Wednesday night, 11/26/14, and it showed. Doors did not open until 6:30 for a 7 PM start and there were limited concession stands available for food purchase. Would really not consider going unless its a team is playing that you really want to see.

Madison Square Garden not very welcoming at NIT

by TheEdgeNYC on 11/29/14Madison Square Garden - New York

If it wasn't for the fact that St John's was playing, I wouldn't have bothered attending this event and it seemed Madison Square Garden didn't care much to have to event either. For starters it seems MSG didn't care to make any money on this event, which is strange considering the MSG owner's propensity to earn a buck whenever he can. The doors did not open up until 6:30 for an event that started at 7 PM. By the time you were let into the arena you had barely enough time to grab something to eat and get to you seat for the start of the game. MSG took care of trying to find something to eat by only opening up a limited number of concession stands. The Carnegie Deli stand was closed as was every Sausage Boss. Considering the fact it was only the lower bowl that was open you would think MSG would have done whatever it could earn some extra revenue and open the doors earlier and offer a better variety of concession options. I wound up having the Daily Burger with cheese and it was very good. It was good to see St. John's win but would strongly consider not going to this event next year unless the participants are such that it's worth the trip. Even if the teams are worth seeing, MSG really needs to change its protocol to make more inviting to come to the NIT.

    Good Night of College B-Ball

by East29th on 11/29/14Madison Square Garden - New York

The St. John's game was exciting as it was a come from behind win but the 2nd game was a blowout so somewhat less interesting. But that's the fun of it because you just never know what you'll get. I only wish we didn't have to deal with the rowdiness and rudeness stemming from those consuming far too much alcohol. It's not fun or fun but I just don't know what can be done about it.

No energy. Felt empty and sad

by sdbb on 11/29/14Madison Square Garden - New York

Given the history of the Preseason NIT, I was excited to check out these games as well as a highly ranked basketball team. The atmosphere and attendance were abysmal. There was absolutely no energy in the venue. The games were pretty good but the event was terribly run. There were no replays of contentious plays, nothing but commercials for the NCAA during time outs and between games, no halftime entertainment, no nothing. It was the worst college basketball game event I've ever attended.

Electric atmosphere with equal numbers of Duke and Arizona fans. I felt sorry for the Drexel Alabama folks who I'm sure were thrilled to see that game go to triple overtime...unfortunately everyone else was impatient for THE BIG GAME to begin.

    The best $10 I've spent

by Anonymous on 12/2/13Madison Square Garden - New York

I got to see 2 games for only $10. The first game was Alabama vs. Drexel that went into 3 overtimes! And then after that, Duke vs. Arizona. The seats had a great view of the court and nothing beats the energy of 2 college basketball championship games.

    No beer here.

by nobeerhere on 12/2/13Madison Square Garden - New York

No beer here. MSG IS DRY FOR THIS TOURNAMENT. Sorry I had to shout, but it should have been highlighted in bold before I was going to spend the night before Thanksgiving in an arena that would not be serving me alcohol. 10 bucks for a beer, you might as well open up your cash registers and continue ripping people off. Is this about the integrity of college basketball, because that's a joke. How bout we start paying our student athletes? But I digress, that's another subject entirely. MSG looks nice after their renovation. And with that I'll leave on a positive note.

    Great Game MSG Fails

by DCWJR on 12/2/13Madison Square Garden - New York

While the games was great I have several complaints about THE GARDEN. First the 3:00 game was a 3:30 start, then if you where on the 200 level you had VERY FEW PLACES TO EAT. NIT final, Arizona V, Duke, the place was packed and they had 75% of the concessions closed!!! Amazing!! Waiting in lines that went on forever was bad enough but while waiting in line you are in front of closed concessions. I felt I was treated like a 2nd class citizen being in the 200 level. Shame on you MSG, shame on you

The first game went into triple overtime and the final was a back and forth game the whole way. I had a great time.
