    College basketball is always fun

by NashHoops on 11/29/10Madison Square Garden - New York

As a long-time basketball fan, I attended my first NIT Season Tip-Off, going to both the semifinals and championship day events, as well. While I was intensely disappointed that Tennessee won the event (not a Vols fan, obviously), I saw four games of good Division 1 college basketball, including the opportunity to see UCLA play for probably the only time in my life. The Madison Square Garden staff, in my opinion, is the friendliest group of people I've ever dealt with at such a venue and deserved to be commended, as well. Prices are expensive ($10 for a pretzel and an iced tea) but it's Madison Square Garden and New York City. What do you expect? Overall, I enjoyed it so much that I'm already getting tickets for more college basketball events at MSG.

    NIT Tip Off

by MASONfYKS on 11/28/10Madison Square Garden - NYC

The Finals of the Tip Off were some great college basketball. Got to see a VCU team that could take the SOCON this year and show up in March, and a rebuilding UCLA Bruin team in the 3rd place game. As usual for the Tip Off, I sit in the risers, this time on the Visitor's end. VCU's Pep Band was very good, played a lot of rock n roll and were led by a very spirited band leader. Also, gotta send them their picture of "bally" on Andy Katz' lap top. The Tip Off finale featured Jay Wright's Villanova Wildcats and Bruce Pearl's Tennessee Volunteers. This game was awesome as the ranked Nova dropped to the size of the Vols. Even though Pearl is going through some major turbulence in his career because of a backyard barbecue, his team played with fluidity and was able to get to the hole easily. They also played stellar defense. The Tip Off is an excellent event for College Hoops fans as the teams participating change yearly and you are usually set to see some great schools. Like last year's matchup of Duke and UConn in the finals.

Due to the lack of attendance at MSG (not to mention no alcohol sales), the event was disappointing. It wasn't very enjoyable to watch college basketball in an empty arena. Please consider reducing ticket prices or giving tickets to charity.

    Title Game

by deestj on 11/28/10Madison Square Garden - New York

St John's could beat both these teams. Neither Nova nor the Vols could keep up with the current st john's squad

    Tobias' Homecoming

by Brotha on 11/28/10Madison Square Garden - New York

Having seen the 5 star recruit play at the high school level, I was not going to pass up the chance to watch him play his first game back in New York. He was a man amongst boys, a shining star in a cloudy night, and he played an overall impressive game.

    MSG is over-rated

by Bigbirch on 11/28/10Madison Square Garden - New York

While we enjoyed the games, four very good teams, the amentities of the Madison Sq. Garden are considerably less than would be expected from "the worlds most famous arena". Non working escalators, majority of concessions were not open, and those that were open were overpriced ($9.75 for a soft pretzel & soda). Combined with the congested traffic, expensive parking (if you can find any) the msg lags in comparison to the Wells Fargo Ctr. in Phila.

    Early Season Basketball

by BBFlip on 11/28/10Madison Square Garden - New York

Always exciting to see your team play at MSG but the college basketball juices don't really get flowing until January and February.

    Poor ticketing again disappoints

by BigHoopFan on 11/27/10Madison Square Garden - New York

Great basketball. Have been going for over 20 years but something is wrong with ticket sales. Once again purchased well in advance, best available seating, and ended up sitting with people who purchased that day, while better seats sat unused for both games. This is always dissapointing.

    No booze for youze

by Jansen144 on 11/26/10Madison Square Garden - New York

Good basketball games in a dead environment. Only one school brought their pep band, all should have been encouraged. There definitely should have been cocktails available for a more festive Holiday spirit.

The NIT should serve alcohol. Period. That is all.

    A Little Gem

by JMTre on 11/26/10Madison Square Garden - New York

One of the great secrets of NYC. You can see some great college basketball for a low price in the intimacy of MSG.

    Nit Tip Off 2010

by STYM on 11/26/10Madison Square Garden - New York

The games could've have been a lot better if the ref's had keept there whistle in ther pockets. It was very rare to have 5 minutes of actual playing without a foul being called

First time at a MSG college basketball tournament where beer was not sold. Not sure why but it did distract from the overall experience. $5 bottles of water were not a good alternative.

The game started too late. Starting at 10pm was a joke, especially the day before Thanksgiving.
