CHIC IN CONCERT:

Disco fans get ready to freak out — Chic and Giorgio Moroder are coming to the Hollywood Bowl in 2014 for one of the most anticipated strobe-filled nights of disco music the legendary amphitheater has ever seen. Acting as gatekeepers of dance music's vanguard, Moroder and Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers aim to highlight the connection between classic disco and contemporary dance music by sharing the bill with young electronic acts including Oliver, Tennsnake, and Destructo. The night of open-air music will feature The Bowl's state-of-the-art audiovisuals, Southern California's pitch-perfect weather, and plenty of dancing in the aisles, making for an unforgettable night of classic disco magic.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

In 1976, guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards formed Chic while working as session players in New York City. Rounding out their act with the addition of two female singers, the band struck disco gold with 1978 sophomore album C'est Chic, topping the charts with iconic smash "Le Freak." A year later, the band released Risque, again reaching No. 1 with "Good Times," a defining moment of the disco era and one of the most sampled songs in music history. The group's success waned along with disco's popularity in the early '80s, but renewed interest in the genre has led to several reunions over the years, paving the way for the group's continued touring in 2014.

    Disco explosion!

by BostonJoe on 7/26/17The Wiltern - Los Angeles

I have probably been to at least 50 concerts and seen even more performers. This was one of THE BEST concerts I've ever seen! My seats were a few rows behind the standing room section in front of the stage in the historic art deco Wiltern Theater. Before the show started, Nile came on stage and greeted the crowd and shook hands with many of us. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Later, as soon as the opening song "Everybody Dance" started, the crowd was out of their seats and on their feet. By the 3rd song, an usher asked if we wanted to go to the standing room section and offered us wrist bands. We gladly accepted since we knew we would be on our feet for the rest of the night so we may as well be closer. The entire night was a huge dance party and the crowd was electric. Chic played the huge Chic songs like Le Freak, the lesser hits like Chic Cheer and the hits Nile was involved in by artists Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Madonna, David Bowie and Daft Punk. Nile even rapped Rappers Delight in the middle of the finale Good Times, which included a stage full of people from the audience. Classic after classic after classic. This was a journey through dance music history. Although no one can replace original lead singers Norma Jean Wright, Alfa Anderson & Luci Martin, the current women of Chic, including Kimberly Davis (who hit #1 on the Billboard Dance chart a week later) were phenomenal both is singing abilities and stage presence. The band was tight and I was amazed how well disco could be played live. And of course, hearing the unmistakable riffs and playing of Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Nile Rodger was a joy.

No Strings Attached: CHIC Is STILL UNIQUE!

by SGJR2017 on 7/20/17Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las Vegas

Nile Rodgers and Company were true to form last Sunday night at the Pearl Theater in the Palms Hotel and Casino. The multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter/producer/performer and Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame inductee was in high spirits, and the rest of the crew was riding on his high energy waves as well. The news he delivered midway through the show - that he is cancer-free after a six-year battle with the disease - was even MORE a cause for celebration, if the familiar and favored tunes that he dipped into wasn't already enough of a reason for partying! I think the most amazing thing to me was that even though the fabled string section was missing, the keys and horns picked up the slack, and MORE than made up for it! The crowd was also delighted and surprised, as they worked through a quick overview of CHIC Organization hits history, by the inclusion of several songs Nile was involved with, that many people may not have known about (Bowie's "Let's Dance" and Madonna's "Like A Virgin" being just two.) All-in-all, it was a night to remember, and Nile, humble and gracious as all get out, shook hands, took pictures and signed things for everyone who rushed the stage after the show. My only lament is that they didn't do TWO nights, so that we could go AGAIN!

    Nile Rogers Is Amazing

by DixonT on 7/19/17Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las Vegas

The man behind the music of Sister Sledge, David Bowie, George Michael, Blondie, Madonna and the list goes on. To see him finally come from behind the scene was absolutely the best.

    Everybody Dance!

by mrjeffross on 7/18/17The Wiltern - Los Angeles

I have to say this was one of the best concerts I've ever been to! The band is TIGHT and the vocalists were HOT. Nile Rodgers has been a major player in the music scene for four decades and has been behind so many great songs. The concert featured hit after hit. The crowd was mixed in all ways and mostly ranged in ages 30 - 65yrs, but there was some of everything and the people obviously love and respect the man and this band and it showed through the enthusiasm on display on this night. EVERYBODY was on their feet dancing all night long and love was in the air - I've never been hugged by so many strangers in one night. The venue was just the right size to get a good crowd in but not so huge that it still felt somewhat intimate - however I did have great seats relatively close to the stage. It's now four days later and I'm still revved up from the great time I had at this show and have not stopped singing to myself and bobbing my head.

    Funk and disco royalty

by MusicFan669 on 7/17/17The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Nile Rodgers loves what he does and didn't spare a moment to share his creative gifts with the audience. His band played Chic's top hits along with a medley of his hits for Madonna, Bowie, and Sisters Sledge. No one was in his seat and the roof was definitely raised.

Nile Rodgers - superstar with warmth and class!

by Anonymous on 2/25/16Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

This was possibly the greatest live show I've seen. It was thrilling to see how much Nile Rodgers loves performing his music, even if he does a lot of work behind the scenes these days. So much love between Nile and the audience. So damn danceable.

    Fantastic!

    by tigre712 on 2/23/16Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Nile has such an amazing energy about him, on top of being an excellent musician and show man. The CHIC band is one very talented group of musicians. The concert is a collection of hit after hit that Nile produced or played on. The show from start to finish had people out of their seats dancing and singing along. It was a great time. Go see them! You won't be disappointed!
