    Amazing

by Agogo on 2/6/24Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The concert blew me away. My only complaint is not toward the musicians or composer or staff, but really the seating arrangement. This could be me not understanding the map of the stage, however since I was sitting more to the right, the big screen is partially covered by the curtain. The words are already slightly hard to read due to the font color of the words, but the blockage is a bigger obstacle. I am still more fortunate than anyone who is further to the right, since their sight is blocked more. I am unsure what the solution is besides removing the curtain or adding another screen for the people to the right. I would say anyone buying from the Chicago O'hare theater for any concert should buy closer to the center or left. And I hope that they will have more nier concerts in America in the future!

    Amazing music, poor seating arrangement

by Charlie on 2/6/24Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The orchestra is undoubtedly amazing. However, this is a concert where videos telling stories are shown throughout the 2.5 hrs concert. I bought a seat at zone 101 to get closest to the stage as possible only to find that I cannot see half of the stage that was blocked by a wall. Furthermore, I cannot see any part of the on-stage screen. And tontop it off, the screen on the side of the stage is right above my head. So, I was unable to see anything at all on the screen throughout the 2.5 hrs concert. The seating arrangements should have been planned more carefully and consider for the screen visibility. What's the point of going to a story-based concert if you cannot follow the story?

The Orchestra Was Phenomenal, But The Theater Was Not

by Kuma on 2/6/24Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

My wife and I attended this orchestra together, I had previously seen their last tour in the same theater back in 2020. Just as before the orchestra and the music was phenomenally done and I only have praise for it. However The theater was completely disorganized with people everywhere and no attempt to create any sort of order. We had purchased VIP tickets to the orchestra as well and were told to go to a certain area after the concert via email where we'd be ushered, however almost none of the theater staff even knew what we were talking about. We eventually found where we were supposed to go after making our way around the entire theater and even then there was no sign that we were in the right place. We were rushed to get our coats even while we were standing in line for the VIP Event and then quickly rushed out a side door once we had finished. The merchandise available for purchase was in very short supply and there was only one place to get it with lines stretching their way all the way across the theater.

Better than the 2020 End of YoRHa concert

by Devola on 2/6/24Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

I loved everything about this show and venue except the ridiculous bar prices and similarly bad merch queue lines. The show itself was a totally original on universe story that featured elements/music of both Automata and Replicant. The visuals were excellent as well! Would definitely go again because I was really sad when the show was over. ;(

    Worthy of Praise

    by A.W. on 2/6/24

I attended the Chicago concert this past weekend. To say that it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience would be an understatement. Keiichi Okabe never fails to impress and the orchestral renditions of all the music will hold a very special place in my heart. A masterful conclusion to Nier: Automata with special callbacks to Replicant/Gestalt. The fact that Emi performed Fleeting Words was a welcome surprise and the finale of Kaine/Escape was a wonderful choice for the end of data. The experience itself was something I, nor NieR fans across the world, will ever forget. That being said, I did have some small issues with the production. For individuals sitting high up, far back, or with vision impairment, it was very difficult to read the text showed on screen either due to size or how the text blended into the background. One other issue was with the soprano section in the performance; often they would start late or be very off key at the beginning of some songs. Not enough to ruin the experience, but enough to notice. Another thing that was a little rough was the merch line. I was fortunate enough to get there early (there was a line of 50 people 3 hours before doors opened) and get the CDs/vinyls I wanted, but many were not as lucky. I do not think that one merchandise table was sufficient for such a large, sold-out concert. Again, not something that had ruined the experience as I was well aware that it would likely be an issue.

    Decent show, disappointing production

    by MH on 2/4/24

I attended the Nier: Orchestra Concert 12024 in Chicago. Overall it was an enjoyable performance but there were definitely some sore spots that brought the overall quality down. Mainly the choir used was simply not up to snuff and not good at all. They were very obviously pitchy, especially the altos. They were off-key in places and very disjointed. Tenors lost their places multiple times and struggled to keep up, making mistakes very obvious. For a concert with many choral pieces, beloved by fans, it was truly disappointing and honestly very unprofessional for those musicians to be unable to perform the pieces they were hired for. The percussion section was also struggling with tempo in a few pieces, and lacked a lot of punch and drive for more intense moments. The pianist was great, but they were playing on a low quality keyboard that was glaringly obvious. For an orchestral performance to not even have a real piano is a shame and a disservice to the pianist. The acoustics in the Rosemont theatre were subpar as well, with flat front facing speakers and a very narrow soundstage. Mixing in the microphones were uneven in the beginning, but seemed to mostly be fixed after the intermission. For the highlights, both Emi Evans and J'Nique Nicole were impeccable. Their performances were rousing and beautiful and hearing them live more than made up for the other lacking performances. The concertmaster, solo cellist, oboe and bassoonist were very talented and had incredible segments themselves. The brass section of the orchestra were bright, clear and and vibrant. I think fans would overall enjoy the show, but it's a shame that there isn't more care or budget allocated to the actual musicianship, which the orchestral arrangements from Nier and Nier Automata more than deserve.

    Great concert w/ small seats

    by A.J. on 2/11/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The concert itself was fantastic. The orchestral performance was flawless as far as I could tell, and the vocalist's performance was goosebump good. I wish they had featured more vocalists like they did in the Japan concert series, or at least featured the one vocalist a bit more, but it was still a very enjoyable experience. The seats were a bit small and uncomfortable for my girlfriend and me. I'm 6'2" and 180 lbs, and she's 5'4" and 140 lbs, and we were thankful for the intermission as a chance to stand up and stretch. I think I've had airplane seats that were more spacious, with more substantial armrests too. Despite the uncomfortable seats, the performance was great. Parking was free if you used the outlet mall parking garage a block away, which we did. We had heard concerning reports about the theater's parking situation, so we avoided it altogether.

    An experience of a lifetime!

    by A on 1/29/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

Amazing concert! Would love to relive it again! It was a rare chance to meet the people behind NieR The number of merch seems to have underestimated the number of people willing to get them. The line was super long and apparently the merch ran out very quickly

    Amazing!!

by Jimmy on 1/28/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

Had a very pleasant experience. Wonderful orchestra, choir and video cinematics! I just wish J'Nique Nicole and some of the other singers from the original concert in Japan were there. Overall, I really enjoyed this!!

    Amazing Show, Frustrating Merch

by Kai on 1/28/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

So, first off, what an amazing show. They played music from both Nier and Nier Automata with interstitial from Emil and 2B. The orchestra was amazing, as was the chorus and everyone else. My only gripe is that the venue and the merch booth staff didn't seem really prepared for the crowd. We waited over an hour and one song into the performance to get through a line that wrapped entirely around the lobby.

    Vaguely Hoped for more

by keropiano on 1/27/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

I enjoyed the concert but the choice of arrangements left me feeling somewhat unsatisfied and very confused in the end. There were blatantly obvious ways this could have been much more enjoyable. Emi Evans was advertised from day one as "appearing on stage", so why did she only actually feature in 2 songs? There were easily another half-dozen songs which featured her vocals in the original soundtracks that were orchestra-only during the concert for some reason. The most glaring offense was leaving her out of Ashes of Dreams, which both she and her father worked on lyrics for. I'll admit I liked the solo oboe during Grandma, but if I had to choose between that or have Emi Evans come out and sing her actual part in the song, I'd certainly opt for the latter. I was also surprised that the concert devoted slightly more time to Nier than to NieR:Automata, given that I'd estimate far more people are more familiar with the latter. I'm not going to complain about getting to hear a fair share of the Nier soundtrack too, but I was surprised to hear them skip straight past a huge chunk of the Automata soundtrack - including most notably in my mind, Copied City and Vague Hope (which, again, should include Emi Evans on vocals). Lastly, it seems they drastically underestimated merch demand - everything besides t-shirts and unrelated-to-Nier SQEX soundtracks were completely sold out by the end of intermission.

A must see if you love the music in Nier games

    by M. on 1/27/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

I'm hoping that the few shows that are currently happening in the States will give reason to expand on that in the near future. The show is split in two halves. One dedicated to Nier and one dedicated to Nier Automata. The arrangements give new life to the songs as well. At the time of this review only the LA concert remains (or maybe it already happened for all I know). It's probably sold out. But if the Nier games get another round of live shows you really should go.

Concert was amazing. Merch line though...

    by A. on 1/27/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

There's really not much to add to the title. The line to buy the merchandise was so long the concert started before 1/3 of the line was even able to purchase anything. Even if the amount of items sold stayed the same, a second booth would have helped tremendously, even if it's just to not walk into a darkened theater and force the poor ushers to flashlight every row to find people their seats 15-30 min into the event. Lot of lost immersion in the first few songs.

    A thrilling experience

by Dislin on 1/27/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The premiere was everything I was hoping for it to be. Powerful, moving compositions and masterful arrangements. I got chills and the crowd was hype for every song and appearance. I hope to see Square organize more events like this in the future.

    Pure Art

    by B. E. on 1/27/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

I've always loved the NieR series, so when I heard this was going to be in Chicago, it was a dream come true. The orchestra was amazing, and I would go to it again in a heartbeat. The only issue I had was with the concert hall, not the concert. It was that our seats were all the way on the second level on the far right. I was fine not being able to see the main stage as well, but the screens next to the stage that we were supposed to see were blocked by some kind of metal support structure in the wall. I felt very frustrated, since there was words on the screen we should have been able to see. Who makes a concert hall with seats that can't even see anything important?

Show was amazing. Merch line was not.

    by J. on 1/27/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

The merch line was embarrassingly long and a real turn off that there was only ONE LINE. The show itself was amazing and well worth the money!

    Nier Orchestra Concert

by CK on 1/27/20Rosemont Theatre - Rosemont

Wonderful event and venue. Hope Okabe/Taro comes back to Chicago in the Nier future.
