Nick Cave on Tour

In a career that's lasted more than 40 years, indie rock elder statesman Nick Cave is renowned as a dynamic performer, his stentorian voice something between gothic storyteller, revival preacher and punk poet. Cave is also a fascinating speaker, vacillating between incisive and cryptic, deep and hilarious. Conversations With Nick Cave is an intimate night with the author/composer/post-punk hero, featuring performances of his decades-deep catalog alongside an unscripted, unrehearsed and unpredictable Q&A with the audience.

Nick Cave in Concert

The shadow of the gothically inclined punk-poet Nick Cave looms large over the history of independent rock. Born in Victoria, Australia, in 1957, his life was transformed by the first wave of Aussie punk bands like Radio Birdman and the Saints. He would soon be leading its gloomy, art-damaged second generation. As the leader of The Birthday Party, Cave and his band would release three albums — The Birthday Party, Prayers on Fire and Junkyard — between 1980 and 1982, dragging punk through rockabilly, jazz, blues, Captain Beefheart, French poetry and Southern Gothic literature. They broke up in 1983, leaving generations of goth-rock, art-rock and blues-rock bands in their wake. In 1984, he formed Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, a band whose vivid narratives and art-rock bluster have carried them through 16 studio albums. In that time, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds appeared in Wim Wenders' acclaimed film Wings of Desire, were covered by both Johnny Cash and Metallica and had "O Children" used in 2010's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. Their documentary film, One More Time With Feeling, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Film. Cave also led punk-blues band Grinderman for two critically acclaimed LPs. Alongside collaborator Warren Ellis, Cave has been a prolific composer of film music, creating the soundtracks to The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Road, Hell or High Water, War Machine, Wind River and more. A true polymath, Cave has published two novels and has written screenplays (2005's The Proposition and 2011's Lawless). In 2017 he was named an Officer of the Order of Australia.

    A magician

by Yorick the French on 10/11/23Beacon Theatre - New York

Alone, no artefact, just him (and a little bit of Collin) and this is a true moment, the ones you cherish. I crossed the Atlantic Ocean to see this performance and it was one. Thank you Nick, you can even play with words, and still a non native understood your black humour, your philosophy. Your songs, your writing will remain with me more than ever. Thanks

Great venue but view was obstructed

by ATNDesign on 10/10/23Beacon Theatre - New York

Second time seeing a show here. The Beacon theatre is beautiful and the staff is nice. However, the view from our two side balcony seats along with a 3rd one next to us were obstructed by two sets of balcony guardrails. Meaning, that if we sat back in our seats normally, we would not have been able to see the solo performer in the middle of the stage. We had to actually lean forward and be on the front edge of our seats to mostly see over the guardrails. It would have been nice if Ticketmaster informed me if this prior to purchase. It definitely would have made me think twice about spending almost 300 bucks on these tickets. The show was still great but i was a little annoyed by the obstructions. FYI our seats were BALC6-B-42 &44.

    NICK CAVE

by Nathan on 10/9/23State Theatre - Minneapolis

It's Nick Cave, it can't be anything other than transcendent, even with Ticketmaster involved. A beautiful theatre as well.

    Great show, unfortunate seats

by EEC on 10/6/23State Theatre - Minneapolis

We had front-row seats on the far right (facing the stage). Those were amazing seats to hear the songs and see Colin Greenwood (and Nick when he came out to speak to the crowd). But because this is a piano show, the majority of the time, Nick was behind the piano and we could only see the top of his head. It's a glorious head of hair, but not a substitute for the whole Nick Cave. I'd have gotten tickets farther back and nearer the middle or left side if I'd realized or even thought it through. The show itself is lovely and touching and so worth going to, whether you can see Nick or not.

I got to witness a magical night. 🎶🌟

by Arat on 10/5/23State Theatre - Minneapolis

Nick Caves voice in the State Theatre was the best I have ever heard. He just gets better with time. The venue was so classily beautiful and the crowd was interactive and yet so respectful of Cave. I really have not had a better concert experience ....maybe Depeche Mode in 1999. Can’t wait till he returns with The Bad Seeds next year. He said he would !!

The concert was brilliant and the venue is beautiful. We were in the balcony and it still felt intimate. Would definitely do this again!

    Nick Cave

by Vonne on 9/26/23DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Good Venue. This was my first visit to Durham. I drove 4 hours (alone) to see Nick Cave. I live closer to DC but the traffic is unfavourable for the ensuing performance there. (Say nothing of the unsafe streets of DC). I stayed at The Museum Hotel. I highly recommend it! I only wish that I had two nights of Nick Cave! There are no adequate words for his genius. So glad he never pandered to the masses. Long live this international Icon!

    Nick Cave is the man

by Ted on 9/26/23Lincoln Theatre - Washington

Bucket list show checked off on this one. It was amazing Nick Cave not only is a great performer but also a great crowd interactor i will forever shout "Balcony!"throughout Balcony Man. It dosent matter how big his ensemble is he delivers. My only gripe with this show had nothing to do with Nick or Lincoln Theatre and all to do with the Ticketmaster ticket site. I got booted off so many times and accused to be a bot i lost the spot i was aiming for and had to settle for staring through a man's ratnest of a hairdo. So most of the set i couldn't see, just hear. I hope ticketmaster fix that because it almost cost me Skinny Puppy tickets was down to one before it sold out. Im not a bot,nor a scalper just someone trying to enjoy some very important to me artists before they all retire. So please ticketmaster fix your system.

    Sublime

by Sofia on 9/24/23DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

First heard NC&TBS back in 1996 (mix tape with ‘Weeping Song’ on it, from my one that got away…) and had never managed to catch a gig. Last week, was in Durham NC from London (UK) for work and DPAC was 200yds from my hotel. Saw the listing and decided to treat myself to a solo night out. Bought a ticket, a double vodka tonic, a weird pretzel and hummus snack and settled in. The stalls weren’t full, and I was a bit disappointed for him that the venue staff didn’t move some of the circle audience in to fill it up. But then, he and Colin came on stage and it just didn’t matter. He was so loved by everyone in the room, and loved us all back; it was just a thing of beauty. I had a great view from row B of the circle and when he had us all cheer during ‘Balcony Man’, we were eating out of his hand. Tired and emotional after 4 days of filming, I totally broke down on ‘Into My Arms’. Memories of my first born - the overwhelming love and loss - swirled me around and delivered a life-affirming moment that I won’t ever forget. I couldn’t keep it together enough to applaud at the end but for that alone, I will be forever grateful.

Solo show an experience of its own

by CS on 9/22/23Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

Having already seen Cave with the Bad Seeds, I didn’t know what to expect. Cave admitted as this was opening night of the US tour it could be the best or worst show ever. With not much of a set list, Cave played about six songs before taking audience requests and that’s how the night went. Nearly 2.5 hrs playing piano versions of whatever the audience wanted. Voice sounded strong. Piano was well balanced and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood supplied a backing bass. Cave’s interactions with the crowd were personal and funny. I’d go again.

    Nick Cave solo

by Chris on 9/22/23Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

It was a fantastic treat. Having never seen him before I wasn’t sure what to expect. It exceeded everything. Him on the piano and just a base made it feel so much more intimate and really personified how talented Nick is. I go to a lot of shows and it was one of the best. Loved how he interacted with the crowd.

by Chele on 9/22/23Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

I’ve enjoyed this very much but would have enjoyed it even more with an entire band.
