About

Nick Cave on Tour

In a career that's lasted more than 40 years, indie rock elder statesman Nick Cave is renowned as a dynamic performer, his stentorian voice something between gothic storyteller, revival preacher and punk poet. Cave is also a fascinating speaker, vacillating between incisive and cryptic, deep and hilarious. Conversations With Nick Cave is an intimate night with the author/composer/post-punk hero, featuring performances of his decades-deep catalog alongside an unscripted, unrehearsed and unpredictable Q&A with the audience.

Nick Cave in Concert

The shadow of the gothically inclined punk-poet Nick Cave looms large over the history of independent rock. Born in Victoria, Australia, in 1957, his life was transformed by the first wave of Aussie punk bands like Radio Birdman and the Saints. He would soon be leading its gloomy, art-damaged second generation. As the leader of The Birthday Party, Cave and his band would release three albums — The Birthday Party, Prayers on Fire and Junkyard — between 1980 and 1982, dragging punk through rockabilly, jazz, blues, Captain Beefheart, French poetry and Southern Gothic literature. They broke up in 1983, leaving generations of goth-rock, art-rock and blues-rock bands in their wake. In 1984, he formed Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, a band whose vivid narratives and art-rock bluster have carried them through 16 studio albums. In that time, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds appeared in Wim Wenders' acclaimed film Wings of Desire, were covered by both Johnny Cash and Metallica and had "O Children" used in 2010's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. Their documentary film, One More Time With Feeling, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Film. Cave also led punk-blues band Grinderman for two critically acclaimed LPs. Alongside collaborator Warren Ellis, Cave has been a prolific composer of film music, creating the soundtracks to The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Road, Hell or High Water, War Machine, Wind River and more. A true polymath, Cave has published two novels and has written screenplays (2005's The Proposition and 2011's Lawless). In 2017 he was named an Officer of the Order of Australia.

    Nick was magical

by Denise B on 10/31/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

This was my first Nick Cave concert and he was magical. His voice filled the whole theatre. My only disappointment was that security didn't toss out the guy screaming "Gaza"and "Palestine"a lot sooner. The dude was 2 rows behind me and very disruptive. I appreciate the cause but I didn't spend a lot of money to debate middle east politics. Nick handled the guy the best he could.

    Time is His Friend

by Alex N on 10/31/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Nick Cave is 66 but seems to get better and better with age. He looked great in his tailored suit and tie and sounded stronger than ever. He played a 2 hour set with without breaking a sweat. I saw Nick Cave in 1992 and 31 years later he was as good if not better!

Nick Cave Live at the Orpheum LA 10/27

by Tyler33 on 10/30/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Stellar! This was my 3rd time seeing Nick perform, but the first time as a 2 piece act. Most of what he did was a lot of stripped down versions of Bad Seeds songs. Followed with some Birthday Party, and Grinderman. He even threw in The Boys Next Door! I think one of my favorite pieces was his T Rex cover of Cosmic Dancer, with Colin Greenwood (from Radiohead) playing a bass solo that brought tears to my eyes. Such an epic performance from Colin, a master at what he does. Truly an amazing experience!

    Exceeded expectations

by JD on 10/30/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

We’ve been Nick Cave fans for a while but never had to opportunity so him perform. The smaller capacity of the Orpheum Theatre provided an intimate setting to truly appreciate the stripped down version of the songs. The piano and bass duet was truly beautiful. The haunting melancholy of Nick Cave’s songs was mesmerizing. It will be a night long remembered. We can’t wait for the next show.

    Perfection

by Jules on 10/30/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

I’ve been to countless Nick Cave concerts in all his various forms since the 1990’s. His voice only seems to get more beautiful with time. He is the epitome of punk rock with a refined elegance. A+++++

    A rare treat!

by JLane on 10/30/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Such a different experience seeing Nick Cave on this Solo tour. Just him at the piano, and that signature voice, accompanied by Colin Greenwood from Radiohead on the base. In his own words he shared that this tour is about the songs, about reducing the performance to just rediscovering the songs. It was amazing. If you are a fan of his music this was a rare treat. 🖤🖤🖤🖤

    Bang for your buck!

by Raz on 10/30/23Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Sat in the center/middle, orchestra area seats at the Orpheum, very nice! The bar downstairs gave me a feel, in lighting and mood, like the bar scene in the movie, “The Shining.” Loved it! The whole theatre had a pineapplee scent to it, man it was like a dream. Lots of beautiful people. Nick Cave was right on! The whole experience was like stepping through some sort of portal; away from all the riff-raff, noise, ridiculousness of everyday life. Highly recommend!

    Great Solo Show

by Michele S. on 10/26/23Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

I’ve waited a long time to see Nick Cave in concert. I was just never in the right place at the right time. He did not disappoint. He played a wide range of his music, including some old Birthday Party stuff. I liked that he engaged with the audience throughout and told some stories about what inspired the songs.

Great fun in a great listening room

by Austin Guy on 10/26/23Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

It is always a joy to see a concert at ACL Live. It is a fantastic venue. Nick Cave was a wonderful show to see in this venue, because it was just two musicians. The song selection was excellent. The acoustics and volume were also great. A really wonderful evening of music.

Nick Cave is still one of the gratest

by Daniela R. on 10/24/23Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

Thank you for bringing Nick Cave to Atlanta! This was an out of this world experience for me and I will cherish it forever. I’ve seen him live when he was touring with the Bad Seeds and didn’t know what to expect, but all I can say is that this was such a captivating performance that I could not move from my seat when it was over. Thanks again! I hope we get to see him in Atlanta again in the future.

Amazing performance in a lovely space

by MusicLoverinATL on 10/23/23Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

The Symphony Hall space was a wonderful location for this stripped-down, intimate performance with Nick Cave and Colin Greenwood. The sound was perfect, as one would expect from a space dedicated to symphonic music. The only downside was that attendees often got up in the middle of songs, when the audience was focusing on the performance, and interrupted by walking back and forth in each row and opening the side-doors. This isn't the typical rock show where moving around doesn't really disrupt others' enjoyment -- in this case it was quite disruptive.

    Amazing

by Arin on 10/23/23Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

This is the second time I have seen him without the bad seeds. The first was just him and the piano and this show incorporated a bass player. Absolutely amazing to be able to play those songs in such a paired down manor. I took my 10 year old son and he was thoroughly impressed. Nick's voice was fantastic and his piano playing magnificent. The added touch of Colin Greenwood on bass made the songs pop even more. A wonderful show.

    Wow

by Zach on 10/17/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

This was my first Nick Cave show. I am not sure what I was expecting from a live performance, but any expectations I had were exceeded tenfold. I've never seen such effortless charisma. Whole crowd hung on every word. Will definitely be seeing him again if I am lucky enough to catch him in the states.

    Show blew me away

by Jinx96 on 10/15/23Boch Center Wang Theatre - Boston

Nick was funny and explained the meanings behind his songs, and joked around with the bassist, Colin Greenwood. The show was very emotional and Nick was very personal with the crowd.
