About

For the first time in League history, the National Hockey League (NHL) will host outdoor hockey in Florida. Celebrating the explosive growth of hockey in Florida over the last three decades, the League will stage two outdoor games in the Sunshine State during the 2025-26 season starting with the 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic featuring the Florida Panthers hosting the New York Rangers at loanDepot park, on Jan. 2, 2026.

The 2026 Discover NHL Winter Classic will mark the first-ever NHL regular-season outdoor game for the Panthers and the sixth for the Rangers, who hold an NHL-best 5-0-0 record in outdoor games. The NHL Winter Classic continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year, with the 2026 edition marking the 17th NHL Winter Classic.

  • Outdoor Experience

    by Mark1 on 1/4/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The event started with rain falling as my wife, Alisa, and I entered Wrigley Field! After making our way through the vast throng of fans from both teams, we made our way upstairs to our seats. Before arriving at our seats, we stopped to take pictures so that the memories of the day would be etched in our minds forever. Fans from both teams were assisting with picture taking and were also engaged in some good natured ribbing of each other. The pre game festivities began around 4: 00 and included a performance by the Smashing Pumpkins which delighted the more than 40,000 fans in attendance. There was an excited buzz in the air as both teams came out headed for the rink to begin play. The National Anthem, featuring Jim Cornelison, was raucous and sent the fans into a feverous pitch. The game largely became an after thought as the between periods festivities were played out. Chance the Rapper performed and kept the crowd glued to their seats. The weather was cooperating by this time, with the rain stopping and the evening turning cooler, but tolerable. Although our team played lousy hockey and lost badly, the overall experience of an outdoor hockey game was second to none! The Wrigley Field Staff from the ticket takers, the seating personnel, and the concession stand operators, all provided a most satisfying experience to the day's events. Kudos to the fans in attendance and to the NHL for continuing the outdoor hockey experience.

Everything went as expected. Was at a non-baseball event earlier in the year and all went as expected. Thank you.

  • Better then expected

I went to the first one at Wrigley about 15 years ago. First, Wrigley has gone thru a major transformation & this event had live music & was able to get a photo with the Cup. Unfortunately my Blackhawks didn’t win but the event was great!

  • Fantastic time at a fantastic venue!

  • Great Experience, Fun, So Much To Do

The NHL Winter Classic at Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois, .. Chicago Blackhawks vs St L:ouis Blues, was an outstanding success for all. Nearby Parking, Events, Fan Engagement, Wayne Gretzky, Denis Savard, .. Food, Beverages next to parking area .. easily could make the short walk to Wrigley Field Area, entrance to main event, where there was sports memorabilia shopping, more food and beverages, and music .. very good ... inside Wrigley Field there was more entertainment, a rink for the youngsters to play on, music, dance area, more food and beverages .. it seemed that .. Everyone was happy, engaged .. in "Good Spirits ", before, and during this event , .. was well planned out, .. exciting and fun .. crowd was engaged (and well behaved) .. the large number (of children), "event friendly "handling of children from toddlers to 18 years old, shows the NHL is engaging, probably winning over their fans of the future ... high marks to this 12/31/24 NHL (show)

by Don on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

For any hockey fan a Winter Classic is a must-do experience . The atmosphere out shines the game . My son and I attended the first one at Wrigley in 2009 and were privilged to be able to attend the second one there . We are born and bred Torontonians but love our Blackhawks .

  • Buy cheaper seats, I guess

by DR on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

As a whole, the Winter Classic was a great event. The attractions set up around the game were very cool, there was a lot of fun and fanfare. My seats were on the lower level right near home plate. The seats were relatively expensive, so expectations were high, but it likely would have been better to get upper deck seats. The artists that played were right in front of us, but we could barely hear the music the way the sound system was set up. The rink was also quite far away, and the low angle made it difficult to see the game. My whole section actually watched the majority of it on the Jumbotron. It seems that the best seats in the house were right around 1st or 3rd base, or in the upper deck. Overall it was a fun experience, and I’m glad I went, but the setup and/or seat prices need to be adjusted accordingly.

  • Dynamite Winter Classic

    by JSnydes37 on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The experience at this year's Winter Classic at Wrigley was unreal. A once in a lifetime experience that our family won't forget. The entertainment outside including pregame was packed and the atmosphere was electric. We had an awesome view from the 400 Level, I'd recommend sitting up higher at outdoor baseball stadiums. The anthem was great in Chicago as it always is. Too bad the Blackhawks laid an egg, for hometown fans the game itself was a letdown. As a hockey fan, I'm so glad I got to go to one of these. I won't attend every year, but I would go back to see another outdoor game.

  • Atmosphere was great.

by Jr Sav on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Exactly what was expected, the Winter Classic is all about the Atmosphere, and that is exactly what Wrigley Field offered. Yes, It's hard to see the Ice; it rained, and on top of that, they got killed! But it was still a great experience, and I would do it all over again!

  • It was fun, but I was frustrated with Wrigley

by Warren on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I have now been to 3 NHL Winter Classics and the 2024-2025 one in Wrigley Field was the least enjoyable of the three. The first issue I ran into was the handling of the crowds before the game. We were forced to wait outside the gates in the rain 30 minutes before puck drop, and nobody in the line was told the reason. Then, once we were let through the gates, the number of people that were suddenly in the concourse caused the worst crowd jam I have ever seen. There needed to be something better for directing the crowds. Once I got to a less busy area, I attempted to find my seat. I was sitting in the outfield in the 500 section, but I didn’t see any signs in the main concourse telling me where to go. I started looking for a Wrigley staff member for help, but I couldn’t find anyone. Finally, after wandering in what I assumed was the correct direction for a while, I did find the 500 section, but I was not having a very good time with it. Finally, I felt that the Microphones for Smashing Pumpkins and Chance the Rapper were too quite. I found it hard to here the vocals over the instruments and the tracks for both of their performances. I want to say, however, that I still had a good time, and I always enjoy the pageantry of the Winter classic, I just was not impressed with some of the execution this year.

  • Winter Classic

    by trickit24 on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Cool event…. Game was the lowl light but atmosphere and energy in the building was great.

  • Not worth the effort

by Riflearm on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Attended the 1-31-24 Winter Classic. Not much to be excited about. "Live"entertainment was pretty poor, sorry Smashing Pumpkins and Chance The Rapper fans. Sound quality was terrible. Entering Wrigley was a nightmare, huge crush of people trying to get to seats in lower corridor. Not enough ushers to help find seats. As a venue for hockey, Wrigley just doesn't work. Any seats in 100 level are too low to see the game unless you stand for the entire event. I've been to both Classics at Wrigley, not likely to make a return visit if it ever comes back.

  • Great game, poor entertainment

by Echo on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

The hockey game was fantastic. NHL hosed up the entertainment during periods. The intermission entertainers were not appropriate to the fans. Hockey fans typically aren’t rap fans. The smashing pumpkins were slightly better but also missed the mark. WARNING TO NHL: Don’t forget who your fans are. Drop the DEI stuff

  • Winter Classic 2025

by Karen on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Love the 2025 Winter Classic. Why was it held in 2024 though? Only negative about the Winter Classic this year as compared to other two Winter Classics I attended was the entertainment. Smashing Pumpkins and Chance the Rapper were horrible.

  • Ok, but seats sucked.

    by Ob1conoli on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

Hawks fan. So they were never in it. But the seats we had we couldn’t see half the stadium. It was fun but just ok.

  • Great scene, bad game.

by Wyldeman on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the overall atmosphere, venue, and event. The game was bad, Hawks non-competitive. I think that we don't need all the between period non-sense but I am older so maybe that is why.

  • Getting through the gate .........

    by Ward88 on 1/3/25Wrigley Field - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Wrigley Field is so congested that people had to go through the gate in shifts because the main Concourse was jammed. Once you got to your seats it was a wonderful viewing experience, but getting around that Park is still a train wreck after a remodel. You figure 750 million remodel would get you some escalators to the upper deck.
