This years Draft Party by the Islanders was awesome!! Gets better year after year. Plenty of things to do for the kids and this year they added a Ferris wheel. Only downer was for the season ticket holders a small section with to many people.
This is a nice free event for the family. There were a lot of players there, but we only got to meet three of them. Unfortunately John Taveras was unable to get to the event due to weather.
This event has been very fun the past couple of years. You can look at great hockey collectibles, opportunity for autographs and pictures. Please islanders this is a free party though, $10 for parking is kind of a rip off
What a disorganized mess! After banging you 10 bucks to park for a "free" event, it just got worse. Long lines with zero direction anywhere! Way to crowded and you cound not understand 1 word on the pa system. Locker room tour was a huge disapointment ! No wonder the team wants to move! The selling of "game used" merchandise which smelled like it was kept in a dark closet all season was another scam! This was nothing more than an effort to raise money for this team. I would NEVER recommend this to anyone and will not be back!!
Great time was had by my kids and their friends! And the price was right! Free!!
The ice floor was filled with activities for the kids. The Closed Circuit TV of the actual draft event in Pittsburgh was well covered, with Islander announcer on site for added coverage. Fans glued to their "tweets" knew results even before it was aired on the big screen - gave a little buzz to the event. Plenty of activities for the adults as well - clearance on merchandise, indoor Ferris wheel, sponsor booths with giveaways and prize drawings. Even the Red Cross was on hand for blood donations, with ticket giveaways for donors (I attend these regularly). This is a great local event that deserves community support. Only negative was that their public address system was amped up too high. My son told me that earlier only a few speakers were working and that's why they turned up the volume. When they finally fixed the other speakers they never adjusted the sound.
there were a few disappointing events. the first was being charged 10 dollars to park at an event that was supposed to be free. we were supposed to receive a signed jersey from john tavares as well as getting a photo taken with him however he was a no show. they said he got stuck at an airport in canada due to bad weather the same afternoon. also there were supposed to be alumni players at the draft party, we didn't see anyone.
Awesome !! The whole family loved it, hope to do it again next year !!
Super time!!! Family enjoyed the excitement! Great show Islanders............looking forward to the new season!
The event itself was great being able to participate in a TSN broadcast. The only problem I had was the TV portion on the jumbo tron was extremely difficult to understand., especially the interviews.
WAAAAAYYY Better than watching the Draft at home. Simply because the crowd was into it from the beginning. Random "Go Jets Go" chanting going on, this was before the name was even official. The excitement really ramped up when Strome was picked 5th since he was the one that most people thought would be picked by Winnipeg. You could feel and hear the disapointment. You wouldn't have got that if you weren't there. Then, when the next pick left Couturier up for grabs, the crowed roared again. The funny thing is Winnipeg ended up passing up on him for Scheifele anyway. BUT the REAL EXCITEMENT occurred when Mark Chipman started to walk up to the podium with Chevy. Once at the podium the crowd quieted down to listen carefully what Chipman was going to say then he said it… Winnipeg Jets! WHHHHOOOO!!!!!!
