About

Founded in 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival® was the first jazz festival in America, and has been host to numerous legendary  performances by iconic figures and contemporary geniuses. The festival continues to present musicians who follow the traditions and modern growth of New Orleans, swing, bebop and modal.  The event is a production of Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc. and currently is held over the course of three days at two of Newport's historic landmarks: the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino and Fort Adams State Park.

Jamie Cullum brought the house down!

by mzkel on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

Haven't been to NJF in a few years, but decided to attend this year to see Jamie Cullum close the festival. He did not disappoint! Awesome as ever. Heard another band Arturo Sandoval from Cuba for my first time....they too were incredible. Great new stage area inside of the Fort-Quad stage and Storyville offered a nice venue for the MIles Davis talk Think we may get general admission tix next time. The reserved seats are great-although more limited now. However, if it is HOT that day, you will bake in the sun. Will be nice to have shade tent, blanket and some chairs along the perimeter of Fort Adams-this will allow for listening to great music and enjoying a beautiful view. Isn't RI a wonderful place?

Best Evidence That Jazz is Alive and Swinging

by Anakcu on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

Each group or artist is limited to a one-hour set and has to compete with two other phenomenal acts performing at the same. Add the prestige of an invitation to perform at Newport and you are guaranteed to see at least a few career-best performances. If you crave harmonic and rhythmic complexity, this is the three best days of music on the planet. If your tastes are more Top 40, best to stay away.

    Relaxing jazz

by Algebra123 on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

Nothing better than to relax in the sun - or shade of a tent - and listen to outstanding jazz. There's a great variety of music, and something for everyone.

    Lovely and inspiring day!

by Jelliot on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

We had a fantastic day - such an inspiring event! We were privileged to see and hear performances by superb duo pianists Michel Camilo and Hiromi Uehara, the legendary Dr. John and The Nite Trippers, sublime Fred Hirsch Trio, and the always exciting Arturo Sandoval and his Band. We paid for reserved seats at the main performance venue - well worth the extra money. Newport Bay is such a lovely setting, with a nice breeze, friendly crowd, lots of food, arts and crafts, and free water refills. Fort Adams Park provides useful facilities, and we were able to take shuttle buses back and forth from the parking lots.

Hiromi and Michele Camillo was unforgetable

by Tulin on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

We had perfect weather - beautiful, sunny, blue sky for the entire weekend. There were plenty of food trucks or food stations to grab a snack or lunch. This was our first time at the festival. Wished we had done it sooner. Didn't bring a cooler box but should have. Still we were fine with Ice coffee stations in the park and lemon slushy to keep us cool and hydrated. Best deal for anyone loving jazz music. You pay one entrance fee but are able to see and listen to more than one musician or band playing within that day. There was Cassandra Wilson, Cecile McLorin Salvant and Arturo Sandoval to name a few really great performances. It was an amazing weekend and the lobster roll was amazing.

    Great Weather, Great Lineup!

by Jahmeelah on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

We attended the Sunday show on the main stage, and it was fantastic! Arturo asandoval was a real treat, and it was the first time I heard Jamie Cullum, and he was fantastic with the Rhode Island Big Band Orchestra! Great times, great weather! But I do wish more vendors would return.

    Jamie Cullum was awesome!!

by PamPachomski on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

Gorgeous day and Jamie put on a great show. He played with the URI big band which made it even more special, has a hometown feel. He started early and played late. Played some old songs we love and some new ones, which kept it fresh. Overall, one of the best Jamie Cullum concerts we've seen!

    Great show with ridiculous ending

by Phillyjazzman on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

Went to the Sunday show and it was remarkable. Every act was terrific. But on the main stage for some reason that I'll never get they chose to end the day with some punk rocker only a teeny bopper could love. What a bad end to a otherwise great show.

    Newport Jazz 2015

by jazzy1961 on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

Just amazing day of continuous music. 4 stages of great music on simultaneously with a wide range of jazz genres: straight ahead, fusion, electronica/urban jazz, vocal jazz, pop-jazz - something for everyone. 1st time for me but now will be yearly pilgrimage.

by BariSaxMan on 8/5/15Fort Adams State Park - Newport

Great Fest, as usual. Great weather. The people were all of the same mind - chill & groove! Logistics were perfect. I had to pinch myself a few times to make sure I wasn't actually in heaven. Thanks George & company! I'll be back!

I attended Saturday's event, and the lineup was phenomenal! It was definitely the best Newport Jazz Festival I've attended. Jose James and Lisa Fischer were among my favorites- I hope to see them at future events!
