About

Founded in 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival® was the first jazz festival in America, and has been host to numerous legendary  performances by iconic figures and contemporary geniuses. The festival continues to present musicians who follow the traditions and modern growth of New Orleans, swing, bebop and modal.  The event is a production of Newport Festivals Foundation, Inc. and currently is held over the course of three days at two of Newport's historic landmarks: the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino and Fort Adams State Park.

Anat Cohen--wow--incredible clarinetist--until yesterday I didn't know her. She was mesmerizing--great spirit. Trio Da Paz w/Harry Allen was also a favorite--loved all the Jobim tunes. Newport All Stars also rocked--so much talent on one stage! Mark O'Connor's Hot Swing had a unique sound.

Jaee line past years thmie Cullum was awesome!

by cmro on 8/8/10Fort Adams State Park - Newport

As usual the weather could not have been better! I did not think that this was as good as past years but I only could go on Saturday. I thought the line up from the past years was better on both days at the Fort Stage. I thought Marie Schnieder Ordchestra, Ahmad Jamal and Jamie Cullum were the best..I do not recall all three stages playing at the same time so it made it difficult to see everyone. You had to pick and choose who you wanted to see. In the past years the fort stage would end and you could catch a performance at one of the other stages. . even with all of this I would still attend the tradition of going every year. Maybe next year I will try the tennis club performance on Friday night instead. . . . some what disappointed but will deffinitely be back next year. Always a JAZZ FAN! Ranzo

by Pir2 on 8/7/10The International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino - Newport

Jamie Cullum is one of the most energetic showman I have ever seen, bouncing around the stage and over the piano.. He knows how to keep a crowd engaged Live is better than recorded versions and on a perfect Newport summer night it was superb

    This guy is so talented

by Chicagodoobiefan on 8/7/10The International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino - Newport

great concert- Jamie Cullum is one of the most versatile, entertaining and talented young guys to come around in a very long time. His arrangements are fresh and young and his interpretations of the old standards are rejuvenating. We love his voice- a young Harry Connick Jr. with a rasp that is very endearing. The music world is going to be seeing a lot of him for a long time.

    Jamie Cullum is a master

by Skirty on 8/7/10The International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino - Newport

At last nights opening of the Newport Jazz Festival two young rising stars performed. Grace Kelly who at 18 yrs old is remarkable, she is the future of jazz. Jamie Cullum is a Master at his art. From the moment he walked on stage he did not stop. He spoke to us as if we were in his living room, he was so graious, he was an entertainer squared. And to be able to se him in that venue (Tennis Hall of Fame) was amazing. I have been a fan for sometime and will continue to watch as his name becomes a household name. He will be right up there w/ some of the greats...Harry & Frank to name a few.

Grace Kelly ***** Jamie Cullum *

by Zelinha on 8/7/10The International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino - Newport

If you went to hear good Jazz, it was not what you got from Jamie Cullum – what were the produces thinking when they choose Jamie Cullum for the main act? Don’t they know that the median age in Newport is at least 60 years old? Or why not pick Chris Botti for the opening? People were leaving in mass, he himself noticed by verbalizing out loud for everyone to hear!!! I bought two extra tickets to treat friends that introduced me to jazz. I invited them and they gracefully declined and they had nothing going on the Friday night, but said see you on the 13th when we are going to a Jazz show in Providence. Then, invited some other friends also big jazz funs, and they too declined and again had no plans for the Friday night, but said we’ll see you on Wednesday, when we are getting together for dinner. So we went, tried to sell the two extra tickets, got $40 for both to this couple and notice they never returned for the main act. So, after all this I understand the actions from my friends and the couple who set by us for the opening act – our tickets were center left on the lawn. I passed the time during Jamie Cullum’s performance reading the news in my iPhone until my husband decided he had had enough, thinking that maybe there was something better to it. In closing I must say, if you keep doing this to Jazz, it will continue to decline and in a few years will be extinct, because there is no substance to it and sustainability.
