New York Liberty History

The New York Liberty are one of three active founding franchises in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Liberty have made six WNBA Finals appearances, in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2023 and 2024, and topped the Eastern Conference seven times. In 2023, the team captured the in-season Commissioner's Cup behind a Finals MVP performance by Jonquel Jones, and later, Breanna Stewart became the first Liberty player to win the WNBA Most Valuable Player award. New York returned to the Commissioner’s Cup Final in 2024, but fell to the Minnesota Lynx. The two teams met again in the 2024 WNBA Finals, where the Liberty claimed their first title. Jones was named the series MVP, and after the season, Stewart was selected to the All-WNBA First Team while Jones and Sabrina Ionescu made the All-WNBA Second Team.

I love watching the New York Liberty but since they left Madison Square Garden they have changed because they are very upset they're not playing in New York City Madison Square Garden I think that is the reason why they're losing they're very good team they need help mentally to help them put back on their track again they're very good team and I love watching the New York Liberty I still would go to their games every year and I've been going ever since I hope to get themselves together and realize that they are very good team they can win any game there is out there

We had such an amazing time. NY Liberty is awesome all around. Even got to meet Maddie, the mascot. My only qualm is that there are little to no vegan options at the County Center's food court. We lost, but it was still an exciting

  • Excellent Experience!

by SparksPres on 8/14/18Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

For their first WNBA game this was an absolutely amazing experience for the two 14 year old AAU girls basketball players and myself as well! The game was close - tied at halftime - and even though the Liberty lost we had a fabulous time. The entertainment was great as well. We look forward to returning next season.

  • Liberty belong @ Madison Square Garden

by tpizza on 8/13/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 4 out of 5

WNBA games are great, it totally sucks that the Liberty got moved out to Westchester! Despite the very weird vibes of the physical location, the game was incredible. Would recommend. If you're heading back to the city after the game though, be sure to check the train schedule, otherwise you may end up waiting outside for an hour.

Madison Square Garden is our preferred venue to see the NY Liberty play. We loved our seats.

  • Liberty vs. Storm at MSG

by normbc on 8/9/18Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

We had a great time, enjoyed our good seats and were very impressed by the caliber of basketball and by the overall entertainment value. We were frustrated and stunned that programs were not available anywhere for the game, but otherwise felt everything was excellent. It was especially a treat to see two of our favorite former UConn players, Sue Bird and Brianna Stewart, in action again. We'll be back.

  • Arena is awful!

by Babsulator on 7/24/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 1 out of 5

Hard to enjoy my fave team, the Liberty, when they’re relegated to playing in as pathetic an arena as this place. What a shame!!

  • Love the team; not so much the venue

by NYBAM on 7/24/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 3 out of 5

I have been attending NY Liberty games for the last few years, starting when the team played in NJ. MSG was a wonderful venue, of course, and the move to Westchester curtailed my attendance. Last Saturday I trekked up to the home in Westchester, a pleasant ride as it turned out. My seat: horrible. I was seated in the last row of a section on the left, next to a tremendously large column. I actually could only see half of the court. Now I will say that the staff at the venue was most helpful; a trip to the house manager resulted in us getting new seats. But as far as I can tell, there is no upstairs seat that allows a full view of the court. If I return, I will look at seats downstairs and, depending on the price, return or not. P.S. The Nathan's stand provided food at reasonable prices! Where do you see that at a sporing venue?

  • Intimate Venue for Watching Great Basketball

by NJMeme on 7/24/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 5 out of 5

No bad seats! Love watching the Liberty play here.

  • by Anonymous on 7/24/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 5 out of 5

small arena, means all seats are close to the action!!

  • Mystics @ Liberty was a bus crash.

by GONY on 7/24/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 1 out of 5

Took FOREVER to get into the County Center. The metal detector screening was more comprehensive than getting on a plane for an international flight. I swear they were performing body cavity searches on old ladies. Sightlines were brutal from our seats. Once people came to sit in front of us, a third of the court became a myth. Service at the Nathan's stand was glacial. I got on line with a minute left in the first quarter and didn't get back to my seat until there was 5 mins. left in the half. Rough afternoon. Do better!

  • Dark lighting - too much music

by ozdunk on 7/24/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 1 out of 5

The venue is very poorly lit. The entertainment was pretty ordinary and nothing different from past years. Really poor effort overall. The acoustics in the hall are very good but it is impossible for the crowd to get into the game with the non-stop organ playing and then the loud chopping changing hiphop music being played during the game. The stats information not visible from many seats. It really is no wonder that they have ended up at Westchester and a real shame for womens professional basketball. Most small college teams put on a better entertainment package. The Liberty song has been - All of the Lights - so please play in a venue with decent TV standard lighting. All of the lights (all of the lights) (Lights, lights) all of the lights Turn up the lights in here baby Extra bright, I want y'all to see this Turn up the lights in here, baby You know what I need Want you to see everything Want you to see all of the lights

  • Customer Service

by DougWalt on 7/19/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 1 out of 5

This was my first WNBA game and my first visit to the westchester county center. I bought two tickets in section 202 row A from ticketmaster, which I was directed to from the Liberty basketball team's website. I arrived to the section and I was greeted by a stadium service representative, which he informed me that there was an issue with our seating arrangements. Someone was already sitting in my seats. Turned out, the stadium sold more tickets in that row that could accommodate for. I asked the representative for someone I could speak to about this issue and I was directed to a sales representative, who apologized for the incident and told us to sit in an empty seat in general admission. This was unacceptable because we payed for the first row and then was told to sit in worse seats. The sales rep. was not accommodating at all.

  • NY Liberty

by Patreviews on 7/18/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first wnba game. I was a nets season ticket holder for 7 years when they played in NJ. And I gotta tell you... this game was one of the most enjoyable basketball games I've ever attended. The price of the tickets allowed me to purchase floors seats for my entire family at a reasonable price. The women are true athletes. The liberty scored over 100 points just like the men's games. The level of competition was just as intense as the NBA minus the dunks. Food prices were much more affordable than a typical men's event. I'm definately returning to watch other matches.

  • Great experience

by gknat on 7/18/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 4 out of 5

Love the smaller arena, great seats and views. First liberty game at this arena. Will definitely come back.

  • Nice new arena and location

by Excptn28 on 7/17/18Westchester County Center - White PlainsRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed getting to see the New York Liberty in their home arena. The seating has fans close to the action and the arena is visually appealing. Some adventure involved in traveling from NYC to Westchester County, but was an interesting trip. A different pedestrian design from the parking lot to the building could be safer instead of having to navigate the traffic circle and having to use law officers as traffic control workers.
