About

New Kids on the Block in Concert

For three-plus decades, Danny Wood, Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Jonathan Knight, and Jordan Knight have been the total package — they sing, they dance, and they electrify arenas in tandem as New Kids on the Block. Formed in 1984 by Boston-based impresario Maurice Starr (who'd also created New Edition), the quintet became the premier boy band of the late '80s and early '90s, sending crowds into frenzies with hits like the sweetly besotted "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" and the longing "Please Don't Go Girl."

NKOTB had a bunch of hits, scoring two chart-topping albums and racking up three No. 1 singles: the doo-wop callback "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," the statement of purpose "Hangin' Tough," and the fast-paced "Step By Step." But as they've grown from boy-band members into grown-men pop stars, they've kept up with current trends; their 2008 version of "Single" by soul smoothie Ne-Yo multiplied that hip-hop ballad's love-in-this-club mood by five, while the 2013 banger "Remix (I Like The)" kept the energy high as it told the story of a high school outcast's post-grad glow-up.

That song is an extension of the lifelong connection NKOTB have had with their fans, who continue to fill venues ranging from cruise ships to hometown temple Fenway Park while reveling in their 21st-century live performances. Seeing NKOTB in concert is as intense as it was during their heyday; while the kids have grown up and their voices have changed slightly, their in-sync dancing remains exuberant and precise, Jordan Knight's falsetto can still send audiences into a frenzy on "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," and all five members maintain the charm and dancing ability that made them '80s teen idols — and kept them hanging tough in the 2010s, when they're recognized as true pop icons.

    NKOTB was amazing!!!

    by lildre on 7/4/09Mud Island Amphitheatre - Memphis

    The show was better that what I thought it was going to be. I didn't understand Jesse McCartney as the opening act though.....he wasn't even born yet when NKOTB was initially popular. Once New Kids started playing it was all worth it!!! They still have it!!!

    NKOTB=Incredible

    by MrsLMac on 7/4/09Mud Island Amphitheatre - Memphis

    This was my 3rd show this year, but was my 1st from the Full Service Tour. I loved that they performed this show at Mud Island Amphitheatre because it was a smaller venue making it feel more intimate! There are only a few shows left of this tour! It's a great show...totally different from the last tour. I highly recommend going if you get a chance. West Coast...they're coming your way!

    NKOTB still Hangin Tough

    by KelliRae on 7/3/09Mud Island Amphitheatre - Memphis

    "I have waited for this moment for over 15 years!!!" I am and will always be a die-hard NKOTB fan. I've been to the Hangin' Tough Tour · Face the Music Tour · New Kids on the Block: Live, and now the Full Service Tour. I am 100% sure this will not be my last!!!! This was the first time in a small venue, yet I really enjoyed it. I met the nicest people, and had a blast meeting new and old NKOTB fans!!!! The only thing negitive I have to say was that the merchandise people were SO RUDE!!!! In fact I just bit my tounge and told them never mind and walked away. I spend alot of money going to see NKOTB, and felt that the fan that buy this stuff should be treated alittle better. As far as the show it just felt more personal this time around, They ran thru the crowd, and did alot of interacting with us. They seemed to be VERY HUMBLE, for the fans that come to see them!!! Thats part of what makes you love them even more, and keeps us coming back.

    NKOTB rocked Mud Island!

    by Jeni on 7/3/09Mud Island Amphitheatre - Memphis

    I have seen NKOTB three times since their reunion. I have loved the atmosphere of each and every concert I have been to as it seems like a reunion with NKOTB and the fans! NKOTB sings songs both from their past as well as the present and it is a great mix of music. It is a joy to attend their concerts as I have been able to relive precious memories from my past where I enjoyed times with my friends. I will plan on attending a fourth NKOTB concert if their ever arises an opportunity!

    This concert was everything I hoped it would be after waiting 20 years for their comeback. The guys sounded better than ever and looked HOTTER than ever! It was a great mix of old stuff and new stuff. The only bad part about the concert was that it had to end!
