New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Great Experience

by Melogiant on 2/17/20Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

I'm a Red Wings fan and we lost but I truly enjoyed the experience. The seats were high but there was still a great view of the ice. Concessions stands were all around, not that pricey and not crowded. Getting in the arena and out of it was also not bad. Thus was my second time going to see the same 2 teams lol. I will definitely be back again.

  • No Wifi

by Peter on 2/11/20Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

There’s no WiFi in prudential so for a non us resident with no roaming it’s very bad. Doesn’t feel very 2020.

    by D. S. on 1/10/20Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The game was very good both teams went toe to toe ,both goalies were sharp the game went to overtime and the Isls won on a three on one break a way, if my Devils had won it would have been a great night.

  • Family Fun Watching a live hockey game

by Nog on 12/23/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

I wish we had won the seats were nice unfortunately the Devils are still in a rebuild stage starting with the coach and changing defensive and offense players constantly. The new coach is going through a major learning curve even though we lost it was a lot of fun unfortunately all the vending inside I was very expensive just like all other Major league venues

  • Devils Win

by Mimo on 12/21/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The New Jersey Devils showed their talent and ability by beating the Anaheim Ducks. They played together and met the challenge the Ducks presented.

  • New backpack policy is dumb

by UnhappyFan on 12/17/19Gila River Arena - GlendaleRating: 1 out of 5

Evidently the NHL has A new policy that bans backpacks. That’s fine. Jansport makes backpacks. Coach however has backpack style purses that are 12” x 18”. I can’t bring in my backpack style purse because the NHL has an anti-backpack policy. I reiterated that my bag is a purse, it’s purse size and they could clearly see nothing was in it that was contraband. They said the straps make it a backpack. However the season ticket holder who was picking up his tickets right next to me who had a messenger bag with backpack straps and his bag was twice the size of my bag was allowed to walk right in. I asked. They shrugged. But I wasn’t allowed in with my bag. Period. The location of this stadium is already in an area that is unsafe so leaving my purse in the car was not an option. The funny thing is I got these tickets free so I could be a “secret shopper” for the event. This was not a good experience.
