New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Been a fan since 82 all while living New York. Been a little disappointed in the team over the last few years. But I definitely see potential in this newer team especially with Vitek who reminds me of a younger Brodeur.

  • Too Much

by Old School Fan on 2/22/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great, the seats fantastic. Just way too much extra stimulus. Why the constant loud music? Why the silly games? Are the Devils afraid we might talk to each other? Are they afraid we will think about what we are seeing? Do they think the game is so boring we might not come back? All the extras took away from tight checking, exciting game. Thank goodness for the quality of the game or I would say the experience was not worth the time, effort, and money to attend.

  • 5'1" and i was uncomfortable

    by JP1206 on 1/10/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

First time at the Prudential Center, and overall it was an ok experience. The arena was very clean, and most of the staff we interacted with were great, but the food we ordered was cold. We sat in section 228, and to say the seating was tight is an understatement. I'm very short and I couldn't sit without my feet turned outward so my toes weren't smushed up against the glass. I would not sit up there again, hopefully the lower sections are more comfortable.

  • Game was great….access was Not

    by P. S. on 1/4/23Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The game and venue was wonderful. No address for pre-paid parking venues however the parking attendants allowed access. THANK YOU! Access to the game was poor- arrived 30 minutes early and still missed the first 8 minute air so of the game so plan accordingly. GO DEVILS

  • Great venue

by Some guy on 12/31/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Great arena, the biggest jumbotron I’ve seen, good atmosphere, relatively cheap tickets for good seats.

  • Misinformed

by Unhappy on 12/26/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 1 out of 5

The ticket seats were not displayed right when purchased. My own fault for not double checking with a better, more accurate seating chart. Then again, why should I have? So validate your seats with the right seating chart.

  • Devils Game a Heavenly Experience!

by BMac on 12/4/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Wanted to see some good hockey, none in Philly this year so we drove north to Newark. Great game and fan experience. Helps that Nashville was in town, so two good teams didn't disappoint. The arena was nice, great fan experience with music going and an upbeat atmosphere. We drove, traffic gets tight near the center, but that's to be expected. Would go again!

  • Rude and Crude

by Spunky on 11/27/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 1 out of 5

I understand that NJ Devils fans were excited and wanted to continue their winning streak but the fans behavior was disgusting. It was disappointing and a coincidence that 3 goals were disallowed but everyone needs to follow the rules. Throwing cans of beer and other garbage onto the ice was so childish. Beer spilled on fans including children who attended. Security needs to look at their procedures for this situation and start arresting fans. That would have stopped others from behaving like this when they consider the consequences. Everyone, it is just a game.

  • Good game

Easy to buy the tickets and have them right on the phone.

  • Wow

by Waz on 11/13/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

What a game, devils took early lead in 1st period. But the end of one tied 2-2 AT the end of 2nd period devils up one. Then the excitement begins with 1: 29 into the game all tied back up. With three minutes left senators get power play opportunity they were flying all over the devils. They were able to fight them off into overtime headed. At 1:23 of OT senators get power play opportunity, the crowd was pissed to say the least. Looked like the end for devils once again able to fight them off, the crowed Drew a sigh of relief, looking like going to shoot out but no. At 4:18 devils get power play with little time left on clock . Nico Hischier wins face off then at 4:27 with just seconds left to OT. Dougie Hamilton to Jack Hughes GOAL Nico Hischier WOW DEVILS WIN …… WHAT A WIN . O YA THE SEATS , you guess it right there in the middle of the actions. TO CAP OFF A GREAT NIGHT

  • Great family night

by Michy on 11/13/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Wow what game! Tied and overtime! Parking so easy! Everyone very nice. Great family night out. My kids had a blast and we aren’t even Devils fans!

  • Someone was in our seats

    by M on 10/18/22Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

We need accessible seating. Our original seats were changed by Ticketmaster due to camera repositioning for TV. When we arrived there were people sitting in our seats. The usher was unhelpful and asked why we needed those seats. My physical disabilities are not her business. My family had to speak to the individuals in our seats and they eventually moved. There was a give away and it was left on the seats We did not get ours because the other individuals had taken them. The game was great but the service was not.
