New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Another good time, watching a Devils game at the PruCenter

  • Great Venue, but Horrible game!

by njhikergirl on 2/29/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The Prudential Center, a.k.a. The Rock, is a wonderful venue for a game, but sadly, the Devils were totally outplayed.

  • Rangers at Devils

We had a very good time at the Pru Center on Feb. 23, especially since the Devils won! The tickets came on time, no problems.

Time honor tradition continued for another year; family affair this time - great seats and worth the price

  • LA Kings vs NJ Devils

    by Krissy05 on 2/18/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

We bought nosebleed tickets to this event (section 15) and we had a great time. We brought our 3 year old with us... (Yes she did need a ticket because she was over 2 y/o), she had a great time. Game was great, friendliest rival NHL crowd we have encountered maybe it was because we had a child or the game was at noon and no one was intoxicated.

  • Marty's Ceremony and Devils' game perfect!!!

What a great time and unforgettable experience as a Devil's fan!

  • Best Game Ever

    by alicat1226 on 2/10/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

This was the best hockey game I've ever seen live! Even if the Devils didn't win, I still would have loved the game. The seats were fantastic and the energy was contagious.

  • Love Watching the Devils

by Anonymous on 2/10/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great game to watch! Venue had good food (I got chicken fingers and french fries), the event was exciting, seats were pretty high up but could still watch the whole rink with no problems. Overall it was an awesome time.

Always a great time going to see the Devils at the rock

  • Devils vs Rangers

by Baduster on 2/8/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

Average Game , slow at times .Section was fun , my son who is 11years old got a kick out of the way the Devil fans and Ranger fans go back and forth at each other. Tickets were a little expensive but this is expected with the teams that were playing and the markup you pay extra. Picked these tickets because they were the best tickets left on the search map when I purchased them, but the view was as expected, not bad center ice tickets and only 5 rows up. Other seats around rink that were not available on map had no one in the seats which is a shame to real hockey fans, and should not be sold to groups who's goal is making money on the tickets.

  • New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers

by DAGM on 2/6/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

good game to be at. devils fans have no respect for fans behind them. they sit forward in their seats and stand up early to block your view.

  • Go Devils, go!

by EduardoLM on 1/24/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Great experience at Prudential Center. Easy and fast to get there (would be even faster if it wasn't for the Turnpike), several parking options, good structure inside the arena. There was even a concert after the game was done in the lobby, great experience!

  • all around good

by stompbiker on 1/24/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Took My Grandson to his first Hockey game. Our seats were great. We enjoyed the lighting on Ice and fun events walking around before. Our seats had flyer to register for a special game which we did. The staff were great talking to us. Also after I purchased my tickets on line one of the staff called to see if I would like other seats to more games. Over all we had a great night. Next time we will eat in the Arena instead of out.

  • #RELENTLESS

by CStruck on 1/22/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

I thought the Rock was going to come crashing down around me during that fast, attacking, and supportive FIVE goal first period! I haven't seen a game like that since the last blizzard! What a way to send the guys on their road trip prior to the All-Star break - and what a way to pump up Cory for his appearance in the ASG! The second half of the season is going to be something to watch!

  • Devils games are fun. Nice atmosphere

Devils games are fun, especially with awesome friends.

  • Bruins stomp Devils

    by kovs27 on 1/11/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Took my sister to this game as a Christmas present. She is a Bruins fan....and had a wonderful time. We saw 4 goals happen on out end of the rink and had a great view of a Tootoo/Rinaldo fight. All in all a fun evening was had.

  • Well organized venue, great battle on the ice

by fanfromoverseas on 1/7/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Even though the attendance was solid, there was no wait time at the gates. We certainly appreciated that as it was freezing cold outside! Security check went smoothly, the staff was friendly, well organized. Bonus in the form of a Cory Schneider bobblehead! Our seats in a lower section, basically right above where the zamboni enters the ice, had a good view of what was happening on the ice, even though it seemed colder in this section compared to a few other lower sections we had previously sat in. However, there was a gap between the seats big enough to fit a large backpack - if you go to the game as a couple you might want to make sure to avoid exactly these seats. It was in Section 11, Row 13, Seats 12 and 13. The game was a hard fought battle; only one goal overall, but great moments on both sides. Devils were missing a few regulars including Mike Cammalleri, the team's points leader, and Patrik Elias. Still, I loved to see the determination of everyone stepping in to make up for them, especially the play of Bobby Farnham. Seeing the Red Wings play in person for the first time, it was clear that they have a rising star on their roster - Dylan Larkin seemed unstoppable, was also the only goal scorer of the game. Great goalies on both sides, too - Cory was solid on his big night, and so was Petr Mrazek for Detroit.

  • Clean

    by Jamal1010 on 1/5/16Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 4th game at the Prudential Center along with other events that I have attended and this time was just like the others the stadium was clean and even though we were in the very back it was still easy to see everything going on the ice. It was very pleasurable experience.
