New Jersey Devils History

The New Jersey Devils were born in 1982, the third incarnation of a franchise that began as the Kansas City Scouts (1974-76) before spending six years in Denver as the Colorado Rockies. The arrival of president/general manager Lou Lamoriello in 1987 started the franchise's rise to the NHL elite. The Devils made the playoffs in 21 of the next 24 seasons, including five trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Devils made it as far as the conference finals in the 1987-1988 and 1993-1994 seasons, preparing them for their historic run the following year in which they won their first Stanley Cup Championship, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

The Devils returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2000, dispatching the Dallas Stars in six games on an iconic double-overtime Cup-clinching goal by Jason Arnott. The next season, as the best offensive team in the NHL, they returned to the Final.

The Devils' stretch of dominance was far from over, though. They won their third Stanley Cup Championship in 2003, spoiling the Anaheim Ducks’ first-ever playoff run with a Game 7 shutout orchestrated by Martin Brodeur. To date, the club has won three Stanley Cup Championships and five Eastern Conference Championships.

In 2022, the Devils returned to the second round of the playoffs—their first time since 2011. Led by young stars Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, the Devils defeated their long-time rivals the New York Rangers in the first round, before losing their next series to the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Good Team, Bad Management

    by JerseyGuy98 on 11/12/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 2 out of 5

The Devils seemed to have changed their marketing strategy and now give away seats to anyone. The people who get these free tickets do not understand the game of hockey. They are more interested in seeing if they get on the scoreboard, which is most annoying when watching a game. Not sure why someone would pay for tickets. I understand the Devils are rebuilding but with free tickets being given away they won't have much of a fan base left The arena is great, and clean and the team does give a good effort.

  • Always a great experience

Watching a Devils game at the Prudential center is always a great experience. Of course, anything food related is over-priced, but that’s always the case with any sport arena nowadays… Other than that, great staff, great food, amazing fans! It was not my first experience and it will not be the last one! And, more important Rangers suck!

  • Go Devils! PC is Great Venue but Parking difficult

by DeepFinesse on 10/11/17Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

Lots of fun at the Devils game on Saturday. PruCenter is nice venue (more salad options please!), our seats were great and that new ginormous scoreboard - WOW! Only disappointment was the pre-paid parking purchased through Ticketmaster. Ticket only showed "G5-6" as location, and none of the parking lot attendants knew what that meant, so it wasn't accepted. Had to pay for parking again, and unclear if I can get my money back from Ticketmaster!

What a time we had at the game. We were 14 seats from the ice, and the action was non- stop! It was a fantastic game opener for the Devils! The new screen above the stadium is the best! They did a terrific job with that and we could not have had a better day Saturday at the Prudential Center!

  • Time to Support this team!!!!

The Devils are rebuilding and the future is now. They were flying on Opening Day and have the potential to bring a lot of excitement this season. The new scoreboard at Prudential Center is huge and spectacular. Truly a sight to see. Devils always do a good job with fan involvement so spend some money on this team. You won't be disappointed.
