New England Patriots History
Originally known as the Boston Patriots, the New England Patriots were the eighth and final franchise to join the American Football League in 1959. After joining the NFL during the 1970 AFL/NFL merger, they changed their name and moved to Foxborough in 1971.
Producing some of the league's greatest players — from AFL MVPs Gino Cappelletti and Jim Nance, to future Pro Football Hall of Famers John Hannah, Mike Haynes and Andre Tippett — the Patriots have fielded more than a few successful teams. The 1978 team won 11 games while setting a then-NFL rushing record that stood for 40-plus years with 3,165 yards. That year, the team's 11 wins tied the franchise record and earned the Patriots their second division title in team history and an opportunity to host their first home playoff game.
On Jan. 21, 1994, Kraft bought the Patriots from St. Louis native James Orthwein, keeping the franchise in New England. The Patriots went to the playoffs four out of the next five seasons and have become a modern-era dynasty, recording more than 20 seasons with at least 10 wins since Kraft purchased the team. Under the leadership of quarterback Tom Brady and Head Coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots dominated the division from 2001 to 2018, making nine Super Bowl appearances and winning six championships.
The Patriots are currently tied with the Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins in the NFL with six. The Patriots hold the NFL record for the most Super Bowl appearances with 11.

The stadium officially opened on September 9, 2002, when the Patriots made their regular-season debut by unveiling the franchise's first Super Bowl banner and celebrated a victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since then, Patriots fans have helped create a home-field advantage that is unrivaled in the NFL, as the Patriots have won more regular season and postseason games at home than any other team.
The Patriots’ home-field success has helped power a dynasty that has consistently propelled the Patriots into the playoffs. Since 2002, Gillette Stadium has hosted 23 playoff games, including seven AFC Championship Games.

The Pats' biggest rivals are the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets.
The New England Patriots have made it to the Super Bowl 11 times, holding the NFL record for the most appearances in the championship game. They have six Super Bowl titles to their name — Super Bowl XXXVI (2002), XXXVIII (2004), XXXIX: (2005), XLIX (2015), LI (2017), and LIII (2019) — and are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most victories in NFL history.
The Patriots were founded in 1959 as the Boston Patriots. After the team moved to a new stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, in 1971, they were renamed the New England Patriots. The original name choice was Bay State Patriots, but that was rejected by the NFL.

Good seat Gillette is a good viewing stadium. Pats won unfourtantely got a ton of autographs.
Had a fandamtastic time at the game Sunday. Tailgating was over the top. We are huge Pats fans, always have been.
Enjoyed the game. Unlike the two previous games that I attended (vs the Jets & vs the Broncos) the gate was not too difficult to enter, but we were in line at 12:15pm. Gillette Stadium does appear to have a SERIOUS issue with the number of gates open and the number of people manning these gates. Prior games we have been in line 30 minutes before the game and missed the opening kickoff. For a BILLION dollar organization, that is inexcusable and from my observations (attending 2-3 games a year) it has got progressively WORSE over the past few years. This sentiment is shared by EVERY one of my friends that are season ticket holders and it is becoming an issue with them as they think about renewing their tickets.
Amazing game, amazing seats. Overall the best experience!
I was excited to finally go to a Patriots game but on top of the expensive prices for tickets, you have to pay $40 to park which is ridiculous. When you pay, they hand you a sheet with a list of items you are prohibited from bringing into the game (including a PURSE unless its 7x4x2). How lame is that? I'll never be going to a game again and I wouldn't recommend it for the worse than airport security conditions to enter the game!
The atmosphere was incredible like nothing I've ever experienced before. Also the Pats won and clinched the AFC East title. It was so good I'll be back twice next year all the way from the uk!!!
Awesome game. a wicked good "revenge" win, 41-13 for the Patriots.
The game was awesome and the seats were unbelievable
It was extremely cold (like in Russia at the same time), but definitely it was the best NFL game I've ever seen at the stadium. It was snowing in the morning, but all snow melted prior to the game. So the only bad thing that evening was Denver's loss ) Great game of great QBs (but honestly it was only Brady's day). Pats fans are just awesome! Best support I've ever seen. Anyway, I never regret that I went there from Russia. Unbelievable experience!
The season ticket holders around the seat are one of the nicest fans I met. They will greet you with a friendly smile regardless what you are rooting for. Of course, like any other game, they will heckle you. It's fun and games. Only issue is that if people are standing up in front of you. You will have no choice but to stand up too.
This was my fourth time going to a Broncos at Pats game in NE. The weather was crappy for every game, but that's no one's fault. Now as a Broncos fan, I expect to get some flak from Pats fans, like I do at any other Broncos road game I've been to (I've been to A LOT!) A friend I go to games with has been to every stadium in the NFL for Broncos games, and many stadiums more than once. Him and I both agree, the Pats fans are the WORST. We don't even do anything to provoke the road fans, as we know we're in "their house", yet they constantly are cursing at us, calling us derogatory names...which I can take just fine, but when it gets to the point that other Pats fans around us who are decent people are getting mad at these guys, it is pretty bad. Once that person spoke up about having good sportsmanship, they started giving her more flak than they did to us! In any other stadium, the kind of language they were using (and yelling for the whole section to hear, mind you) wouldn't be tolerated by the ushers and you'd be thrown out. But the ushers in this stadium never seem to care. They don't even walk up and down the aisles to keep an eye on their section like they do in other stadiums. Even worse, we were in a big crowd cluster going into the game for about an hour before we got into the stadium! This took longer than getting into the Super Bowl in NYC! This stadium is poorly laid out, doesn't have enough gates, and doesn't have large enough gates either. This is by far the worst stadium for getting into. Even Pats fans around us were complaining how it has been getting worse every year.
While getting into Gillette is never a peach, last week it was absolutely ridiculous. Probably 20 minutes once hitting the mass of humanity waiting to get through security. After that it was a usual visit to a Patriots game. Minor waits at food and beer, ridiculous waits for the mens room.
It was rainy, it was cold... but was an amazing night! For me and my son, that are from Brasil, one night at the home of our team is something to be in our mind forever!
We came from Arizona and were told what the stadium and what to expect from the fans, but that was not anywhere near from what we experienced. Our seats were in the upper 300's the weather was freezing (43 is winter in AZ) we are used to everything digital at the Cardinals stadium (which is amazing) so we thought we would not like it at the Gillette Stadium.. I cannot begin to explain to you how much FUN and how exciting that night was. The stadium is so open and so nice looking, everything was easily accessible, and cant forget the best fans. Fans are unbelievable, never a dull moment in the stands, the energy is absolutely out of this world and I would not trade it for anything. I am very proud and happy to be a Patriots fan and will be going back next year again. And again year after year. Best night in a very long time.
The seats were amazing its corner of the end zone. For the money you cant beat the price. Great crowd even with kids not alot of swearing just a great time with the guys!!!!!!! Everyone was super friendly super loud for the home team.
The game was fantastic! The seats had me almost on the field!
Going to an NFL game is an amazing experience! The tickets we bought were wonderful an the whole event was a blast.
Gillette Stadium exceeded my expectations. Great people, great staff, great food and a great game. Patriot Place Shopping Center was a great surprise. What a great concept. New England really knows how to entertain. Thank you for the memories!! I will be back.
Everything was perfect. I got my tickets on time and printed them at home. The game was one of a kind. And what a final when the last attempted New York Jets's field goal was blocked by New England Patriots defense at final seconds. A memory forever. Thank you very much Ticketmaster.
