About

NEIL YOUNG IN CONCERT:

Singer-songwriter legend Neil Young thrilled fans in 2013 with the announcement of North American and European tour dates alongside his longtime collaborative band Crazy Horse. Among the highly-coveted 2014 dates are four nights at Carnegie Hall as well as a series of “Honor of Treaties” benefit concerts with Diana Krall to aid the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Legal Defense Fund.

“Neil Young and Crazy Horse play like the rock and roll legends that they are. Truly a great show reminiscent of the classics from the early days.”

“They weren't going through the motions, they were making them. Improvising, jamming, messing up, laughing, only in the way Neil and the Horse can. They were so tightly tuned in to one another and sounded great, but the best part was that they seemed happy to be there, happy to perform.”

“Neil is a genius! After all these years, he still rocks and puts on a great show!”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Since the late '60s, Young has released over 35 studio albums, exploring such diverse genres  as country-folk, pop, noise, punk, and electronica. He’s best known, however, for his iconic folk rock songwriting, popularized by his hugely successful collaborations with Crazy Horse and supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Never content to rest on his laurels, Young has remained musically prolific and sonically experimental, earning rave reviews for his 2012 double-LP release Psychedelic Pill.

    Long time fan

by Goldrush on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

No Neil Young did not play Heart of Gold or many of the crowd's favorites but the reason is that Neil has perhaps enough great songs to play for days or weeks straight instead of just hours. But many of the old standards were there including Cinnamon Girl, Hey Hey My My, Ohio, etc. When asked to play Old Man he feigned an affront on his own age and replied "I know, I know, 64 and there's so much more". His ballets were bitter sweet and poignant and inspiring to so many long time fans and young admirers. Few performers carry the depth and range of emotions that Neil has to communicate in his song that carry in their simplicity, and reverberate, the most complicated feelings.

Neil Young Still Knows How to ROCK!

by thor777 on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Neil Young put on a fabulous show. Great mix of acoustic, keyboards & electric... old & new. Neil himself gets 5-stars. The only downside was the sound & acoustics at the Palace Theater. I felt that the sound could have been much better. Vocals were somewhat muffled / weak at times - hence the 4-star rating. Otherwise ... MY MY HEY HEY ROCK & ROLL IS HERE TO STAY !!!!!! WHOOOO HOOOOOO

    Neil still ROCKS!

by Cortlandman20 on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Neil put on an unforgettable performance from start to finish. Three acoustic songs to start followed by songs on old black and other various electric guitars which included Down by the River, Cortez the Killer, and Ohio. Many new songs as well!!

    Neil Young was phenomenal!

by InTheWind01 on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

It was a pleasure and an honor to get to see Neil Young perform. The last time my wife and I had the pleasure of seeing him was in 1976 at the Paladium in New York City. Seeing him at the Palace in Albany, N.Y. was amazing as there is no more intimate venue. There are no bad seats and the acoustics are supreme. Neil’s voice and guitar/piano/organ/harmonica playing were that of a master. Every note had a purpose and was delivered with heart and soul. If you are a Neil Young fan you know just how good he can be and this performance was perfection. He played a mixture of old and new and there were no disappointments. If you get a chance to see him, do it! He will take you to a place you won’t soon forget…

No good, should be all acoustic. would of been better. At our age don't need all the feed back from the amps

    Great to see you, Neil

by Mick7 on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

After "knowing" someone for 45 years, there is an awful lot of material that one could cover in the course of a concert and a lot of favorites one would want to hear. While I tend to like Neil's electric side more, I enjoy the acoustic side, too. I've seen Neil in pretty much every configuration (solo, Crazy Horse, CSNY, etc) over the years and love every one of them Neil could have taken the easy way out last night and played Heart of Gold, Harvest Moon, Needle and the Damage Done, the most commercial stuff that, I'm sure, many people came to hear. Gladly, he didn't do that. Certainly, some great acoustic classics were there and the pump organ for After the Gold Rush is always a standard. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Gretsch and Les Paul put to good use with great effects for Cinnamon Girl, Cortez the Killer, Down by the River and the rest. I loved the new songs and can't wait to get my hands on them. Perhaps, best of all, is the fact that Neil's voice is still there, much better than many of his contemporaries. Simple fact is that Neil is a treasure and I was glad, once again, to get the chance to be in the same building last night.

    NY in NY

by DavidOldMan on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

It was great to see Neil at such a small, and beautiful, venue. He opened with several classic acoustic numbers which set the bar high for the remainder of the evening. While Neil met the bar on several numbers, I felt the show peaked in its first 20 minutes. The mix of old and unreleased material was a good one with only perhaps one clunker. The only downside of the night was that he ended after only 1 hour and 35 minutes.

    Neil is awesome

by Chauncey71 on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

You go to a Neil Young concert thinking you know exactly what's going to happen. After years and years of going to Neil's performances, I've learned that is never the case. In this concert we got at least 6 new songs. He changed up some oldies. Sometimes he talks alot in between songs but not in this case. Sometimes he gets mad at the equipment/crowd and storms off.....or.....plays the next selection hard and loud and it takes your breath away. If you are a true Neil Young fan you will gladly accept anything he puts out there. Concert complainers are not true fans.

    Beyond our expectations!!

by BigNeilFan on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

We went expecting to see Neil play an acoustic guitar and sing songs consistent with that forum. When he took off the acoustic and plugged in the electric, he started playing songs we never expected to hear like Ohio and Cinnamin Girl. He did a lot of old favorites while playing 4 different guitars, 2 pianos, an organ, and of course, numerous harmonicas. Tickets were pricey, but worth it.

    Neil Rocked Out!

by musicfan30 on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Neil really did his thing on stage, rocked out and played some of his older songs that were really crowd favorites. If your even a casual fan of Neil you should def see him live, his improvisation/tweaking of songs and riffs was great...overall a very very solid show

    Old Man

by cjs1966 on 5/19/10Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

I was very excited about going to see Neil Young. I had been to one of his shows in the 90's at West Point and it was awesome, he had played all my favorite songs and I felt I got what I paid for. This show at the Palace did nothing for me. He performed songs I had never heard before which were good, but I was hoping to here some of the old Neil Young songs, such as Sugar Mountain, Old Man and so on. He still has a great voice and his unique style. I did not care at all for Bert Jansch. His voice to me just sounded the same in every song. Very boring. I did not like the stairs at the Palace Theater going to the balcony seats, no railings and very steep.
