Natalia Lafourcade on Tour
One of the more colorful and charismatic pop artists to emerge in Mexico during the early 2000s, Natalia Lafourcade debuted in 2003 with a fascinating solo effort before switching to a rock band format, Natalia y la Forquetina, and proved herself worthy of acclaim in whatever guise she chose. Born Natalia Lafourcade Silva on February 26, 1984, in Mexico City, she took an early interest in music, for her parents were musicians. She knew at an early age that she wanted to become an artist, and over the course of her childhood she studied accordingly: painting, theater, and music, including such instruments as flute, guitar, piano, and saxophone, as well as singing. Though she attended a Catholic middle school, Instituto Anglo Español, Lafourcade spent several years living with her mother in Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico, where they both studied music. Some of her cited contemporary influences are Fiona Apple, Björk, Café Tacuba, and Zuco 103.
With time, Lafourcade was taken under the wing of Loris Ceroni, a well-regarded Italian producer perhaps best known for his work with Alejandra Guzman. Recording at Le Dune Estudios in Italy, he produced the bulk of what would later be released by Sony Norte as Natalia Lafourcade (2003), with the remainder of the album produced by Aureo Baqueiro back in Mexico. An eclectic, free-spirited album encompassing everything from gentle, bossa nova-style acoustic guitar to hard-hitting dance beats, often within the same song, Natalia Lafourcade is a fascinating album of pop confetti anchored by well-written songs and charismatic singing. It found a captive audience in Mexico, generating four hit singles ("En el 2000," "Busca un Problema," "Elefantes," "Te Quiero Dar"), topping the album chart, and going three-times platinum. Moreover, it wasn't only consumers that were captivated by the album, as Lafourcade earned four Latin Grammy nominations for her debut effort: Song of the Year ("En el 2000"), Best New Artist, Best Rock Solo Vocal Album, and Best Rock Song ("En el 2000"). She also earned a standard Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.
In 2004, the following year, Lafourcade assembled a four-piece rock band, Natalia y la Forquetina, also comprised of Alonso (drums, programming), Chanona (guitar, bass guitar), and Yuno (accordion, keyboards). Fernando Eimbcke, a filmmaker who had directed the video for "En el 2000," invited Lafourcade and her new band to record a song for the soundtrack to his film Temporada de Patos (2004). The song, "Un Pato," is a reinterpretation of a traditional bossa nova, "O Pato," and it marked the debut of Natalia y la Forquetina. Meanwhile, the band worked on a full-length album with producer Emmanuel del Real, aka Meme, from the band Café Tacuba, and also with Baqueiro once again.
The resulting album, Casa (2005), is indeed the product of a genuine rock band, with surging electric guitars driving many of the songs. Though considerably more one-dimensional than Lafourcade's self-titled debut, and not quite as successful, Casa nonetheless spun off some hits, topped the album chart, went platinum in Mexico, and won a Latin Grammy for Best Rock Album by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Furthermore, the band arrangement facilitated Lafourcade's emergence as a concert performer, and indeed, she took Natalia y la Forquetina on the road, touring extensively throughout Mexico over the course of a year's time. Their last show was August 18, 2006, after which point Lafourcade disbanded la Forquetina with plans to resume her solo career. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi

It took an hour to get in - kind of crazy. Pier 17 really needs to sort this out. Missed a good part of the slow because of how long it took to get in. Bummer!
Awesome show! Good venue. Would definitely see her again!
i absolutely love Natalia's voice. She is just as good in person as she is on the radio or in collaboration with any other artist. Very talented also on the guitar and piano...loooove her!
Natalia's performance and opening number set the tone for an unforgettable evening. I've been a fan since her rock beginnings and thoroughly enjoyed her recent albums that pay homage to Mexican folklore and by proxy, Latin America's often overlooked musical heritage. Listening to her sing live so flawlessly was deeply moving, and she carried on as best as possible when the Warner's tech started faltering. Not sure exactly what happened; the sound went off and even the lights went off and I feared the show would be stopped short. Luckily Natalia and the band were able to continue and finish what became one of the best live performances I've ever witnessed. I highly recommend you see her live if you get the chance. The opening act was great as well.
She is amazing. Great voice. Unbelievable. The venue is beautiful also.
Natalia Lafourcade's voice is melodic and full of color. Her dedication to her craft shows, and her contact with the crowd shows that she has a pulse for what people want. The Neptune proved a great place to have a concert in an intimate setting. I hope both Natalia and Diana Gameros (who opened for her) return to Seattle in the near future.
With a genuine smile, a transformative voice and charm gallore Natalia illuminated the Neptune this past Saturday. The sold out show left all of the attendees chanting her name over and over again so that she had to reappear not only once but twice. A treat to all with connections to Mexico, Latin America, or simply to the wonderful sounds of the world. Thank you Natalia for a great night which will be remembered by many for a long long time.
Great singer, musician. She connected with her fans.
I was expecting this to be like every other gig I've gone to, but Natalia completely blew me away! Her opener only played a couple of songs and Natalia ended up playing over 2 hours. Her charisma, her constant appreciation, and natural talent got everyone cheering for joy after every tune. I will never forget this gig!
Best concert I ever been to. She’s sings so Beatiful.
Natalia put on a moving show. The crowd loved her. She kept things moving by changing keys at the end of a song and transitioning right into the next song--so crisp! I loved this show!
She engaged the audience and the performance was excellent! I love her music and her personality.
Masterpiece of a performance in a beautiful venue! Don’t miss out next time! Natalia, COMEBACK!!!
So I attended her concert in Riverside, CA (late may I add) and she was seriously the best and most energetic artist I have had the honor/privilege of seeing live! I sat in the balcony seats and totally wish I could have had the chance to sit down in the Floor (General Admission) area instead because the crowd were definitely more fun and more energetic down there. She actually pulled some fans up on stage with her! And towards the end of the concert signaled the crowd to get up out of their seats and approach the stage (as opposed to staying seated and just dance from there.) She sang from her album Hasta La Raiz and obviously from Musas Vol. 1 & 2. She is so cool and fun that she interacted with the crowd throughout the concert. I am so glad I went! Even if I did end up being late!
Natalia voice is mesmerizing. We had a wonderful time. The place is classic.
Natalia was incredibly amazing! This was the perfect venue to see her perform live because it feels so intimate! The night was truly unforgettable! I would come back to Riverside Municipal Auditorium for another show. Parking was easy, seating was great and it’s a smaller venue so any seat in the house is great! I would love to see Natalia Lafourcade again and I would probably see her anywhere, but I’m really glad I chose this venue to experience listening to her angelic voice for the first time!
Great show! The performance and venue were excellent.
The Riverside Municipal Auditorium is small venue but is a great place for someone like Natalie to perform. She is amazing! We cant believe such a voice comes from petite woman. She sang for 2 hours straight.
I am a new fan of about a year. I had been following her to find out when she would be in town and, i am definitely glad that i was able to see her. I did not know what to expect but she was absolutely amazing. Her show had so much energy. She is to beautiful for words. and her band made it that much better.
