About NASCAR Cup Series
The NASCAR Cup Series is top-tier of three national touring series in the sport alongside the Xfinity Series and Truck Series. The Cup Series operates with a points system. The driver sitting atop the leaderboard to finish the regular season earns 15 playoff points. The Cup Series playoff features the 16 highest-scoring drivers competing through four rounds. A winning driver and winning owner are annually crowned separately.
The Cup Series season runs from February to November every year. NASCAR relocated its Championship Weekend from Homestead-Miami Speedway, which hosted the event for 18 seasons, to ISM Raceway near Phoenix, Arizona.
Iconic tracks that host Cup Series races include the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Daytona International Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Talladega Superspeedway. The Daytona 500 has annually served as the season-opening Cup Series race since 1982.
History of NASCAR Cup Series
The NASCAR Cup Series was founded in 1949 by Bill France Sr. and has undergone several evolutions since. It began as the Strictly Stock Series before switching to the Grand National Series (1950-71), Winston Cup Series (1971-2003), Nextel Cup Series (2004-07), Sprint Cup Series (2008-16) and the Monster Energy Series through the 2019 season.
NASCAR opted against renewing with Monster Energy and instead announced the Cup Series would feature a multilayered sponsorship model in December 2019. Busch Beer, Coca-Cola, GEICO, and Xfinity were named as "premier partners."
The trophy was renamed the Bill France Cup ahead of the 2020 season, the first without a title sponsor since 1971.
Richard Petty is the winningest all-time Cup Series driver with 200. The octogenarian notched his first win in 1960 and his last in 1984. In March 2019, though, Petty was surpassed by Kyle Busch in terms of all-time combined national series wins.
Jimmy Johnson topped the Cup Series from 2006 to 2010, marking the first time one driver had won in consecutive years since Jeff Gordon (1997-98). The late Dale Earnhardt did so on three separate occasions (1986-87, 1990-91 and 1993-94).

Great race. Very load. Heart pounding. Will be going to the next one.
Great venue. Great race. I loved it. Exciting atmosphere. Great views. Great experience.
A great NASCAR event. No bad seats and reasonable pricing. Lots of action on the speedway. Just be prepared for long wait to get out of the parking area.
One of the best Nascar races I have ever been too. Atlanta is one of my favorite tracks to go to.
Atlanta has really stepped up their game. Very friendly, free food, infield concert and great race. Loved it!!!!!
I will start by saying that thoroughly enjoyed the race. It was exciting from start to finish. Parking, on the other hand, was an issue from the moment I arrived to the time I left the stands. I followed the parking Instructions to the letter on the website. From my highway direction I was told to park in the purple lot. And I would leave from that lot to get back on the same highway. I was directed full around the entire track and was pushed into the blue lot. Nothing on the online maps indicated a blue lot. Thought I had remembered landmarks to get back to my car but that was daylight. Race finished in the dark and I lost my bearings back to my car. I wondered around the lots for almost an hour trying to find my car. No staff was around to help me to the blue lot. No signs could be found with lot locations. With sciatic nerve problems, it was painful. Very little light in those very dark lots.
The deafening roar of raw horsepower coupled with ground vibration, then comes the sound of the field going by in a blur. Hold on, it isn’t over, closely followed by suction and wind turbulence. Go # 22!
Watch out Daytona Atlanta has a race track that all fans need to come and see for themselves
Got ticket to cup race off ATL motor speedway site….smooth transaction and easy entry with ticket on phone
Everything about the event was great. I had an amazing and awesome time. It was everything I thought it will be and more. Really enjoyed the people and the race. I will be going back.
I’ve been going to NASCAR races for over 20 years all over the country and this was the best race I’ve been to in person. The racing was good from the start to finish. I would highly recommend this race to new fans or veteran fans alike!
The new configuration for ATL has delivered exciting racing the last couple years. As the track is aging the racing has become phenomenal! The closest margin of victory between the top 3 in NASCAR history! Not to mention a record number of lead changes. This is now a MUST SEE NASCAR destination.
We traveled from FL to the speedway and we had a great time! The tram was very efficient and the race was fun . We would have liked more big screens to see closeups . Thanks
Great track, easy to get around. Super speedway action in a compact size, no bad seats, pick a seat, any seat and it’ll be a good one. You can always move around and watch some from different viewing points.
Will be using Ticket Master for all my race and concert needs. Thank you! Stress free
Like many other have said, this race was incredible. I was on the edge of my seat the entire race. Multiple lead changes and they even ran 4 wide for two laps through the turns which is unheard of at Atlanta. I will not miss another race here. It was an absolute blast. My wife isn't a fan of NASCAR and she even had a great time.
My family had the best time ever. We haven't been to the race in a couple of years because the kids were so young. The experience was superb.
The NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway was awesome. They put on a good show. It is loud, it is exciting and the crowd was really into it. First timers and really enjoyed it. You might want to bring ear plugs with you and get a seat in the Johnson area as they are the nicer seats. Seat back and have fun.
The new track is amazing...visibility is fantastic. And given the fact that 80,000 people all leave at the same time, traffic was extremely well managed.
