    Very disappointed

by Wahlerpc on 10/12/09Birchmere - Alexandria

I was a huge fan, and was hoping my wife, who knew little about her, would become a fan also.. But Nancy did almost all political and social-issue songs, and not only did my wife "hate" her, but she also lost me as a fan. I guess she assumed everyone in the audience is a liberal Democrat, but she was wrong. Some walked out. We stayed until the encore, but couldn't stomach any more statements about Obama, the death penalty, abused children, etc. We go to these shows, and spend a lot of money doing so, to be entertained, not preached at. Sorry, but I am bitterly diasppointed. Griffith has a lot of talent, but she misused it and her stardom to create a forum that was very unpleasant for me and my wife. We would never go to a Nancy Griffith concert again. Having said all of this, the Birchmere is a first class operation, and we will return there for other shows. Ed in Centerville, VA

    I want my money back.

by Wahlerpc on 10/11/09Birchmere - Alexandria

If I though you would give me my money back, I would ask for it. As it was, this would be a completely forgetable event if I wasn't so infuriated. I did not pay good money to have her political agenda pushed down my throat. I paid my good money to be entertained, which I WAS NOT! I was taken to the event by my husband who was a big fan with him hoping I would become a fan. NOT! We both left before it was over. If this is the Birchmere agenda, then you have lost a big fan.

    Amazing performance

by nativeaustin on 10/10/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Nanci has an amazing stage presence and very effectively communicates the meaning of her music better than any musician I have ever seen. It was a pleasure to see her again, reminding me of why I have loved her music for almost 30 years.

    Nanci Griffin was really great

by ameliamaie on 10/10/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Enjoyed the mixture of old and new songs, from this woman with a totally unique voice and a wonderful sense of connection to her audience--her humor and poignant comments appeal to my more liberal sense of things than my husband's more conservative views, though he enjoys her music very much.

Nanci is the cutest thing! I love her and hope to be as cool as she is when I'm in my 50s. Great show!

    magical as usual

by texaswoman on 10/9/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Fourth time i've seen her perform live-- the others all in Austin. The older we get the more i appreciate her talent, her soul, her courage to put it out there for us all to consider and love. I only wish she'd been able to do more of her songs -- any of them. She sounded strong and her voice was as good as i've heard in a while. Many more years to come, i hope.

    Nanci deserved a better crowd.

by NanciGFan on 10/9/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Nanci was great. Eric Brace and Peter Cooper were a great opening act. The crowd mostly sat and gave polite applause. I think D.C. audiences tend to be too uptight with people worried about appearing foolish if they cheer too raucously.

    Nanci is better than ever

by jimjet on 10/9/09Birchmere - Alexandria

People fall in love with Nanci because she is a delightful, gracious performer who delivers with her voice, her selection of songs, and her excellent band. An all round great show!

    Leave the politics at home!!!

by Dentontx on 10/9/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Musically she was great--played a lot of old favorites and a lot of her new stuff was good. BUT, she's stuck, forever it seems, in her '60s political rant and it wears thin. Leave the politics at home Nancy and just play....

    Not the best Nanci peformance

by Anonymous on 10/9/09Birchmere - Alexandria

I try to catch Nanci Griffith at least once a year. This set list was not as solid as year's past. I know she has a new album to promote but the overall song selection was disappointing. However, her version of "from a distance' and "speed of loneliness" are worth the price of admission. Opening act was terrific...loved Peter Cooper and Eric Brace. I bought their CD ("You Don't Have to Like Them Both") and have been listening to it all morning. The Birchmere is a lovely venue...wish the food was better but the seating and sound are terrific.

Nanci Griffith delivers a great show

by DVerigin on 8/17/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Maybe it had something to do with the waning crescent moon? Or maybe it was just me. The energy level felt somewhat subdued last Saturday night at the Aladdin (except for the drunk screaming tune requests in my ear behind me). Nanci and the band played a polished, "not a note out of place" set. This was comfort food for the soul. Many ardent fans were soaking it up. Nothing at all wrong with this concert and it's inspiring to watch this level of professionalism.

Nanci continues to blow away the audience!

by OregonJules on 8/16/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Nanci Griffith's performance was a beautiful combo of new and old songs, of originals and covers, of story-telling and singing! Nanci is delightful to see in person; what a gem!

Nanci Griffith - what more do you need to know?

by rikitavi on 8/16/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

It has been too long since the last time I saw Nanci Griffith in concert. This served as a reminder of what I had been missing. She did a mix of old favorites plus 3 cuts from her new CD, "The Loving Kind". The title song of the album is one of those rare songs that gave me goosebumps listening to it. I have been a fan of hers since the 80s and if she had played all of my favorites, she would STILL be on stage playing! People that don't know her or her music are missing out on something extraordinary!

    Griffith, always brilliant

by femelledecanard on 8/16/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Been a fan of Nanci Griffith's since the 80s when I first saw her on Austin City Limits. It was years later that I saw her live. She's a very well rounded artist... incredible song writer, her voice is strong and melodic and on stage she's charming and witty. Her lyrics are poetry and the melodies stick with you. Whether she's singing about love, war, injustice or simply life, her obvious gifts and love of her craft never fail to carry you along.

    Great concert!

Nanci is back. I so enjoy her telling stories about the songs she has written or borrowed from other song writers. It's like having dinner with an old friend.

    Nanci Griffith is a Treasure

by Curlycreek on 8/16/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Nanci Griffith is an Americana Treasure. To see her in small venues like the Aladdin in Portland or the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville is almost like having her play at home. Looking forward to her tour with Elizabeth and Mary. Hoping to see more west coast appearances. Maybe the Britt Festival next year in Jacksonville, OR?

    A great show.

by TheMacsFromScotland on 8/16/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

It is a while since we had heard Nanci but she put on as great a performance as usual. No disappointments with this show. Right from the start she was in great form. The guys backing here were great and the sound was full considering there were only 4 on stage. Wish we could go to Seattle to see the next show. Never mind - hopefully we shall see her in Scotland soon also.
