Over nine studio albums, My Morning Jacket has evolved the reverb-heavy country of their debut (1999’s The Tennessee Fire) to a sound that transcends genres. Singer-songwriter Jim James has pushed the band past their regional roots in Louisville, Kentucky, toward the psychedelic, reggae-influenced sounds on albums like It Still Moves (2003) and Z (2005) — the latter proving to be their critical breakthrough. In 2008, My Morning Jacket performed on Saturday Night Live, while their Grammy-nominated album Evil Urges became their first top 10 on the Billboard 200. The band’s rain-soaked set at Bonnaroo that same year is considered one of the festival’s most iconic, and My Morning Jacket has since shared bills with Bob Dylan, Foo Fighters and Wilco.

There isn’t much you need to say about MMJ. If you’re a fan of music, you need to make it a point to see them. The experience will change you. Even if you know none of their songs, it will be one of the best shows you will ever see. Highly recommend getting to a show.

There is nothing on the planet like an My Morning Jacket show in your hometown , especially two consecutive nights. They are more than a band, they’re a force of nature. Sonically, visually, and spiritually, Jacket will change your life. Than can be no higher recommendation, I hope MMJ/ the Met make it a yearly residency.

What a show, and what a venue. I came from Buffalo by myself to see it. First time I've been in Massey Hall since the floor seats were removed---what an intimate setting, with great sound. I had forgotten what a great guitarist Jim James is, but seeing him up close, the proof was palpable. Typical eclectic set list spanning all their albums, with highlights, for me, being Off the Record, In Color, Spring (Among the Living), Wasted, half-acoustic I'm Amazed, and the always-pleasing State of the Art. MMJ is one of my most favourite band of all times. I have been meaning to see them in concert forever, and this was the perfect opportunity. The band was amazing as it always is, but the Toronto crowd was sooooooo boring. I'd never seen that before. Coming from Montréal, this was a huge letdown. Toronto people: you need to stay home and do crosswords if you're to be standing still in a MMJ concert!
I love MMJ but haven’t seen them live in 10+ years, so I didn’t know what to expect. The band absolutely blew me away. They played so well together, the mix was incredibly tight and on point, Jim James was a star as usual, the drums sounded amazing, the lighting was fun and funky. Can’t recommend MMJ live enough. Will never miss a show again. Good vibes all around.
I liked the opening band, but never learned their name. I especially enjoyed when Jim James joined them on their last two numbers. When MMJ hit the stage the sound was cranked up so loud it was distorted. The lyrics were unintelligible. There were some very innovative lighting effects. There were some very heavy, pounding strobes that felt abusive. The overkill was exhausting for me, personally.
Truly an amazing experience, finally got to see them live and can't wait to see them again!
