My Chemical Romance on Tour

During the 2000s and early '10s, few rock bands displayed more concert power than My Chemical Romance, also colloquially known as MCR. The New Jersey emo-punk group was a ferocious live act full of intensity: Frontman Gerard Way was mesmerizing in the way he used dramatic, heart-on-sleeve gestures and vocal flourishes, while his bandmates slashed through songs like a powerful garage-rock band full of aggressive energy. During the peak of their popularity, My Chemical Romance toured with a who's-who of rock and punk bands, including Rise Against, Thursday and Alkaline Trio. In 2005, the band performed on the inaugural Taste of Chaos tour, opened for Green Day and co-headlined the Warped Tour. Two years later, My Chemical Romance appeared on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour alongside acts such as Placebo and Taking Back Sunday. Headlining gigs at festivals such as Reading and Leeds also followed in subsequent years.

In 2019, My Chemical Romance reunited after a six-year break, booking a show in Los Angeles that sold out immediately, plus 2020 festival appearances in Japan, New Zealand and Australia. MCR is on tour again in 2020 with dates across the U.S.

My Chemical Romance in Concert

My Chemical Romance formed in the early ‘00s with a lineup featuring brothers Gerard and Mikey Way — who sing and play bass, respectively — as well as guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro. After releasing their debut album, 2002's I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, via small label Eyeball Records, the band inked a major-label deal with Reprise Records.

The 2004 album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge established My Chemical Romance as a commercial force, as both "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" and "Helena" were MTV and alternative radio hits. The Queen- and classic rock–inspired 2006 concept album The Black Parade expanded their audience further — "Welcome to the Black Parade" even hit No. 1 on the modern rock chart — and introduced a theatrical element to the band, manifested in tailored costumes. Four years later, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys touched on an eclectic mix of sounds, including glam rock and synth-heavy pop.

    The Best Band EVER

    by Mrs Sick on 7/9/23

Where do I even begin? I began listening to this amazing group when they hit the scene with I'm Not Okay - I was instantly hooked, the angst in the lyrics with the upbeat thrash tune just spoke to me in ways no other music group has. I went on my own deep dive after hearing that one song, discovered their 'Bullets' album, and my life was never the same. Before them I was a weak pushover that was desperate for approval and angry at myself for never considering my own feelings and letting myself be treated as second-rate dirt. Through MCR I discovered not only that I wasn't alone, but so much more than what people saw me as. I began to talk back, shout back, and even fight back - I know getting into fights in junior high is not something you would brag about, but I felt a kind of empowerment from MCR. Then came the Black Parade - they exceeded my expectations of their talent by tenfold, and launched themselves into the mainstream. I was genuinely happy to sing along 'Welcome to the Black Parade' with my peers and feel that brief sense of comraderie I had longed for in real time. I was beside myself & devastated when they broke up back in 2012 - I remember the day so clearly, I was in the mall with some friends, and literally sat down from shock and cried. Fast forward to the year 2019 - I am working an office job, holding fast to my hope that MCR would come back - and I get the notification on my phone that the boys are coming back for one night only at the Shrine. HELL YEAH IM GETTING THOSE TICKETS! I cleared my calendar of meetings, sat at my little desk and got in the queue for those sweet sweet tickets. They are gone in an instant. Devastation sweeps over me, again, and I trudge through my work day. On the drive home with my boyfriend (now husband), I get this strange urge to check the site again - just some glimmer of hope I suppose - and right there available to me are 2 tickets to the Shrine for MCR. I LITERALLY SCREAMED TO MY S.O. 'GIVE ME YOUR CREDIT CARD I NEED IT NOW' - and secured our spot for the Great Return. Now I had seen MCR live a few times in my youth, each and every performance was magical in it's own way - but this night was different. It was like coming home after a long, harrowing road trip where the relief washes over you once you pull up the drive and the comfort and safety of your familiar, sacred space greet you when you enter the front door. That was how it felt when the boys of MCR walked on the stage. Then they began to play - and it was beautiful chaos, a welcome pandemonium among the crowd. ...and, at long last, I was finally home. Great music, so much talent and so entertaining. I hope they stick around and I look forward to seeing them perform again and again and again!

    Cried so hard

    by S. P. on 6/15/23

I’ve been a long time MCR fan, so finally seeing them live was a dream I never thought I would experience. They did not disappoint and were even better than I expected. The merch was awesome and good quality, plus it wasn’t crazy expensive. I had nose bleeder seats but still bawled my eyes out and had so much fun, that in the end I didn’t care how far I was. Gerard’s voice was amazing and the rest of the band played wonderfully, even the crowd was great, it was so cool seeing each fan take care of one another and hearing everyone sing together, over all I would love to see MCR again one day 🖤

    Absolutely life changing

    by ky on 5/27/23

I still cannot believe that I actually got the chance to see mcr in person. They literally saved my life years ago. It was so unreal. They were all as amazing as ever, Gerard had so much energy, he seemed genuinely happy and excited to perform. My seats weren't the best, they were kind of on the side, but the fact that I could see them walk onstage before everyone else was absolutely surreal, I could have spat on them if i really wanted to (obviously I wouldn't do that, but you get it lol) so all of that definitely made up for it. The energy was absolutely immaculate. At one point during the show, Mikey went over to the side of the stage where my seats were facing and he waved and smiled at us. I have a video of Gerard and Ray walking off stage and I could see them so clearly, they looked up at me when i screamed their names and that was the best moment of my life. This was back in August of 2022 and I still get post-concert depression from it sometimes. I went with my mom and my sister, neither of them really liked the opening band that much but I did. We bought the tickets back in January of 2020 and obviously, the concert got postponed because of covid but my amazing experience made up for the 2 and a half years of waiting. The setlist was amazing and every song gave me chills, when foundation of decay started and they walked on stage, I immediately burst into tears (I knew that I would cry at some point, but I didn't expect it to be as soon as I saw them). I really hope mcr tours again someday so I can see them again.

    They sound amazing!!

    by Gabriela on 5/15/23

I saw them October 12 2022 and they sounded amazing! I didn't realize how much I loved Foundations of Decay until they opened with that song. I was dancing and screaming the lyrics haha. Loved how Mikey interacted with the crowd by playing up close and giving us a genuine smile (who would've thought :)), and Gerard was so happy to see a glowing, dancing skeleton in the crowd. Wonderful night.

I wasn't the biggest fan when I first went to see them but that quickly changed after I saw them live. I forgot my glasses at home but I still had a great time. Absolutely wonderful. I'd love to see them again someday.

    I can’t express my happiness 🙏

    by A. J. on 3/26/23

I’m complete now. The whole process of buying, navigating and participating in the event was easy. I’ve loved them for almost 20 years now, I’ve always wanted to go, and I finally did with my daughter. Never thought I’d see them after they split but now I can’t wait to go back! Appropriate environment for many ages as there we several young children around enjoying themselves, same as the old folks who came- loved it!!!! Gerard is still incredible, they all are. And they played songs from their very first album!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I’ve been to quite a few concerts and this concert was the second general admission tickets I’ve had. Tbh the worst concert I’ve ever been to. Openers were better than MCR and I love mcr but come on…no stage presence and they didn’t interact with the audience at all. Openers interacted more. I did not have fun.

    So amazing i can't even <333

    by Jacinda on 1/16/23

I've loved mcr since i was 11 but never got a chance to see them back then, my little emo self was so beyond ecstatic all night. We were supposed to be in section 115 behind the stage with a blocked view but when we went to find our seats we were told we were upgraded to section 8 with an amazing view!! My heart was so full all night it was a seriously unmatched experience, i loved being surrounded by my people all the emo kids and were all grown up now sorry I'm getting sentimental it was an amazing night they played everything i wanted to hear, so hoping for more music and opportunities to see them live <3

    Disappointing experience. 9/15/22

    by M. G. on 1/4/23

Crowd wasn’t exactly the nicest to one another, and didn’t like the opener bands before. MCR sounded ok at first, but the sound quality is way too distorted. I was also just kinda weirded out how Gerard was acting; it got overly exaggerated over time. Glad I saw them way back when. I think this just isn’t for me live with this band anymore. Otherwise, go see them but beware prices.

Was literally crying in emo lmaoo

    by Dolores L :) on 11/18/22

Naw this concert was the best thing ever!! I can officially die in peace ;) Ever since I started listening to these guys in middle school I’ve always wanted to see them. I knew after the split I wasn’t gonna see them live but they surprised me when they released their single and that they were going on tour. I went with my high school friend it was so freakin amazing. We were both punching each other with excitement when they played our favorite songs. Overall the venue was nice the food was good and I loved the merch!!! Wish I would have got more 🥲 Parking wasn’t bad the only thing was that there was a foot ball game next door and traffic got heavy. The forum did a great job on announcing any issues. Overall I would definitely go again!!!
