About

MUTEMATH IN CONCERT:

Alternative rock four-piece MuteMath is making their mark on the indie scene with their dynamic synths and driving guitar sound. Whether they're tearing through fan favorites like "Typical" or diving into the audience for a crowd surf, MuteMath always delivers the goods at their electrifying live shows. The band's energy is infectious, and their inimitable showmanship never fails to get fans pumped up and on their thrilling tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New Orleans act MuteMath formed in 2002 by friends Paul Meany (vocals), Darren King (drums), Todd Gummerman (guitars), and Roy Mitchell-Cardenas (bass). The band initially sent recordings back and forth via email while they were split between Louisiana and Missouri, but they all came together to record their 2004 EP Reset. The release was a hit, spawning whirlwind tours with Circa Survive and Mae that gained the band a considerable cult following. They followed up with their self-titled debut LP in 2006, which peaked at No. 17 on the Top Heatseekers chart, was praised by major media outlets, and earned a number of major festival appearances for the budding group. Since then the four-piece has recorded two more acclaimed albums, been nominated for a Grammy Award, and played for hundreds of thousands of fans around the world. With their expansive collection of popular tunes and sensational stage presence, MuteMath is a must-see live act that never disappoints their eager fans.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I've seen this band 5 times in 4 different cities and they never, NEVER, disappoint. Not only is their music incredible as is, but their live presence and over-the-top antics are something you just need to see together."

"These guys put on such a great live show!!!!! I have a live DVD of theirs, but seeing them in person is so much better. Everyone in the band came into the audience several times through the show. The lead singer stage dove twice! And they played all of the songs from the new album aside from a ton of songs from older albums."

"This was by far the best concert experience I've ever had!  If you are a true MUTEMATH fan then you will love this tour. They make a real effort to play songs from all three of their albums and then every song off of Odd Soul. Not to mention Paul Meany is great singing live and loves to add in a few stunts around the stage."

    5 stars is not enough...

by calimetal on 3/26/16House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

Best band ever, live, on CD, on vinyl... We've seen 20+ shows a year for several years, no one has more energy, better stage presence or the catalog of songs that Mutemath employ to give the audience the best show every time. This was the third time seeing the gentlemen from NOLA, and amazingly they keep getting better. The first 3 albums are great, but Vitals stands out as the best record to come out by anyone in the last few years. They played all but one song from the latest, and peppered the show with standout tracks from prior albums - enjoying the delicate balance of satiating the original fans palate while also providing sustenance to the newer converts. Their message is upbeat and positive (the video for "Monument" brilliantly captures the feeling of the song, and if you can watch Lala's reaction video without shedding a tear of joy, you may want to check yourself for a pulse...), making me smile ear to ear throughout the entire show. The vocals and all instrumentation were spot on and the lightshow/special effects/disco ball low in the center stage/weird guitar-ish instrument from space/inflatable mattress with lights/drum mitts that flash all enhanced the show and were employed to perfection. I cannot imagine a world without Mutemath. If you consider yourself a music fan in any way, shape or form, you absolutely HAVE to see Mutemath before you miss the opportunity to see the best band bar none. As they played "Refrain" towards the end of the show, it touched my soul in a way that only the best example of music can. It was a moment burned in my memory as complete and total bliss for which I will be ever grateful...

    Outstanding!

by alsomynickname on 3/26/16Terminal 5 - New York

I've seen Mutemath three times now and each one was amazing. Going to their show in St. Louis next week and would love to be able to hit another stop this tour.

One of the most energetic bands, period

by DBTrunks on 3/26/16Terminal 5 - New York

I've seen Mutemath since their early show at the Knitting Factory and every show they've played in NYC and they never cease to amaze. This show was no different. Never the opening act, Paper Routes, was able to match their energy and talent level. Electronic, mixed with poignant lyrics made both acts amazing.

Back at it with the crazy drums and synth!

by BriaDanae on 3/26/16Terminal 5 - New York

They played everything I love. I saw them on their first tour and then just this week in NYC at Terminal 5 and they were insane again. High energy, great music, and they sounded amazing live. They did a couple of really cool things highlighting the different artists- the drummer highlights were amazing. Cool technology etc!! Loving and can't wait to see again! My parents are going in Minnesota and I told them they are in for a real treat!

    MuteMath is the best Fun

by EmAlexa on 3/26/16Terminal 5 - New York

Mutemath are so good at entertaining the crowd from their concert visuals to the energy they put into their performance. Whether a fast or slow song the crowd always stayed engaged. One of the most creative performances I've seen too. I'm definitely going to see them when they come in town again.

    Love Mutemath but disappointed

by SummerThyme on 3/6/16The Wiltern - Los Angeles

This is the 2nd time my husband and I have seen Mutemath. The first time we rate as one of the best concerts ever, 2nd time the worst. Rather than seeing a rock concert we felt like we were at a techno dance club with a non-descript band playing the music. The strobe lights are so excessive, uncomfortable, and really detract from actually "seeing" the band on stage. I ended up leaving for the lobby after the 4th song. While my husband stayed inside for the whole show, he came out pretty angry. He was so excited to see them again and had been raving to everyone about what a phenomenal concert they put on the first time we saw them. Oh, well, maybe they want to be a techno band, maybe it was the venue that didn't work well for the lighting, but I don't think we'll pay money to see them again.

    MUTEMATH'S MUSICAL JOURNEY

by gsparky on 3/5/16House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

First time seeing Mutemath as a headliner. I have seen them play short sets at festivals but they played for almost two hours. The music just flowed and they were amazing. I would see this band if you have the chance

Mutemath - mixing off but great performance

by Thrud on 2/29/16House of Blues Houston - Houston

I love Mutemath because they are an incredible live band. They frequently extend songs and add new twists. Everything sounded great, but the lead singer's mic was too low and it was hard to hear him.

    Mutemath stronger than ever

by IXIXIX on 2/26/16House of Blues Houston - Houston

Creative and emotionally motivating energy. The band as a whole are stellar but their individual skill level is inspiring. A streamlined stage show filled with mood enchanting lights and flashes complimented a well oiled band presenting their best work to date.

    MUTEMATH IS KING

by NateDrummer96 on 2/26/16House of Blues Houston - Houston

MuteMath is quite possibly the best show you can attend. It's simply amazing. Darren King is PHENOMINAL. Paul Meany is a genius. Roy Cardenas is so versatile and cool as the fan. And Todd Gummerman is the icing on the cake. I even bought tickets to their Austin show the next day and made a road trip to see them again. The only down side to the night was the lousy food at House Of Blues. I went their hungry, expecting to eat some good grub. That didn't happen. Crappy choice of food at the "concessions" stand.

    They get better and better

by Jusdz on 2/26/16State Theatre - St Petersburg

This is the 5th time in 10 years I have seen MuteMath. Unbelievable talent spews out of these four gentlemen at every how. The best song of the night for me was "Safe If We Don't Look Down".

MUTEMATH & NOTHING BUT THIEVES-An Ent. Powerhouse

by sdmccoy on 2/23/16House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Many were not familiar with Nothing But Thieves, the opener, but this band will make you a believer with their unique rock blend combined with frontman Conor Mason's powerhouse vocals. By the end of their set, there were definitely new fans. MUTEMATH really put their all into their performance. It was my 1st time seeing them & I couldn't tear my eyes from the stage. The stage production & MUTEMATH sheer talent left me amazed. Its easy to see why the House of Blues was packed for this band...highly recommend both, MUTEMATH & Nothing But Thieves!

MuteMath brings serious energy and innovation

by OmniXeno on 2/23/16Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

I've loved this band for some time. Their shows are way more entertaining than you would expect hearing their music from the albums. They develop strong relationships with their audience and like to show off their energy with creativity.

    MUTEMATH's energy is unreal!

by SSang on 2/23/16Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Bouncing in the back of the pit waiting for the band members to come on stage was delightfully unbearable. It's comforting to know that those around you in the same sardine packed venue are just as into the music as you are so you make small talk and gab about which of your favorite songs will they play. Once they come on stage, the energy is at once turned frenzied while phone screens shoot up into the air in hand for the first song. As that same energy finds its way into every soul in the audience, you can't help but bounce to their infectious songs such as "Chaos" or "Noticed". This caused the pit to sway, open and close, tumble and roll over others making openings and breathing room for those who were completely immersed and jamming out to Darren King's crazy drumming skills. Mid-concert, I don't believe anyone was standing quite still as the entire force of the energy had taken hold and had everyone bouncing as high as their bodies can take them to "Control". As Paul Meany introduced his fellow band members, our South Florida crew could not hold themselves back in saluting so graciously each member of MUTEMATH, calling out our own SoFlo anthem in greeting. The crowd was nearly difficult to placate as King tapped his drum to our chanting. He even made an appearance down to the pit, having 4 lucky fans hold gloves that created drum sounds when slapped high five style. And man, he was jamming. Meany himself got real intimate with the crowd, surfing above the pit not once, but twice, and even at once point, tossing out what looked like a handmade instrument duct taped together to the crowd in which I prayed that no one would go crazy enough to destroy it. That's faith right there for him to do such a thing because they released it back to him in one piece when it he reeling it in. Whew! They were encored and returned to the stage to give us "Reset", their infamous instrumental jam sessions, and equally popular mainstream song "Typical". Needless to say, we all walked away blown over by their incredible performance, and felt equally lucky to have experienced their music and a semi-private feeling venue as Revolution Live as it was difficult not to see them from any corner. I've always loved Revolution Live in bringing top notch acts and providing a way for fans to be able to come out and enjoy the crap out of them.
