Murray the Magician on Tour

With his shock of messy blond hair, tinted glasses and loud ties, Murray Sawchuck — aka Murray the Magician — looks like a cross between a rock star, mad scientist and used-car salesman. And there's a little bit of all three in his act, which combines high-energy performance, geeky gaffes and audience interaction into a crowd-pleasing, family-friendly stage revue. With his trusty stagehand Lefty at his side, Murray doesn't so much perform magic tricks as set up elaborate comedic sketches where the illusions often function as the punchline. Since 2018, he's been regularly holding court at the Laugh Factory Tropicana in Las Vegas, where he wields a repertoire of tricks that include emerging onstage from a piece of plywood, pulling bowling balls out of briefcases and tearing up newspapers into small pieces only to have them magically appear intact again. Sure, you've seen magicians perform pick-a-card tricks before, but have you ever seen one find it by throwing a deck in the air and catching the card on the tip of a sword?

Murray the Magician Background

As the son of a railway worker who moonlighted as a musician, this Burnaby, British Columbia native knew from a young age that he wanted to be onstage. And upon being gifted a Siegfried and Roy magic kit at the age of seven, Murray realized what would get him there. He honed his act as a teen performing at kids' birthday parties, then was mentored by veteran magic duo Mr. Electric, who introduced him to the European circuit. But it was his 2010 appearance as a semifinalist on America's Got Talent that would transform Murray into one of the world's most in-demand magicians: in a nod to his family's roots working on railways, he wowed judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel by making a steam train instantly disappear. Since then, Murray has appeared on TV shows like Pawn Stars and Masters of Illusion, and has developed a large following on YouTube, where his videos have generated over 1 billion views.

Bad Magic, can't understand the Performer

by Eman101010 on 7/20/17Sin City at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino - Las Vegas

This show was terrible from start to finish, and Murray talks so fast that even I (an American native English speaker) could hardly understand him. He was just going through the motions. I also know a lot about magic and I'm a big magic fan. The effects he performed are weak and he gives half his show to some stage hand. Spend your hard earned money somewhere else.

    Not worth the money

My husband and I saw Murray Sawchuck last week in Vegas, and he was not very funny, a lackluster performance. Not really a magician per say…but Lefty was comical. We were disappointed and would not recommend this show.

    Best Family Show in Vegas!

by TickleMePhil on 4/27/16Sin City Theater, Planet Hollywood - Las Vegas

I have seen this show with families and with my single friends and it never ceases to amaze me! You get two magicians for one! Murray is a world-renowned illusionist, and his sidekick Lefty, does his own card magic in the middle of the show! I didn't expect that! This is well worth the money and it's just well-executed magic and showmanship. I recommend it to everyone!

    Not the best

Murray was not very interested in being there and you could tell it. His partner Lefty was a much better magician than Murray. Would not recommend.

We say Murray on "America's Got Talent" and loved him, but can't say the same for his live show. My husband and I both found it lame, more suitable to a kids' birthday party than a casino showroom. If I were in Vegas and had young children with me, this would be a safe show to take them to, and yes, I could see them being amused. This is not Copperfield, however. No grand illusions or spectacular stunts. Lots of sarcastic chatter with the audience and simple diversions. There is one trick where flowers disappear into a table that I found embarrassingly sad. Murray's assistant, Lefty, did a routine with a silver ball moving up and down a large handkerchief which was flawless, though dated and unoriginal. Murray is capable of much better.

Murray the Celebrity Magician show was very good. It's great to be able to find good entertainment in the afternoon. He should definitely be in a larger venue - I think he would fill it.

    Fantastic Show!

by Carpjeff on 1/2/15Sin City at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino - Las Vegas

Murray, Celebrity Magician at Planet Hollywood is a wonderful family style magic show that takes place in a very intimate setting. It is full of comedy and awesome illusions that take place only a few feet from your seat. His wife and assistant Chloe is beautiful and does a great job, and his bumbling assistant "Lefty" is a skilled slight of hand magician who also does two sets of magic in the show. I highly recommend this show!
