Mumford & Sons in Concert

English folk rock band Mumford & Sons have catapulted to stardom with their captivating mix of bluegrass, country and rock, enchanting audiences with their soaring harmonies and catchy pop melodies. Their second album Babel was released in September 2012, debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. and U.S. with hit single “I Will Wait,” and took home the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, as well as winning the Brit Award for Best British Group. The band consists of Ted Dwane on vocals, string bass, drums, guitar; Ben Lovett on vocals, keyboards, accordion, drums; Marcus Mumford on lead vocals, guitar, drums, mandolin; and Winston Marshall on vocals, banjo, guitar, resonator guitar. They formed in late 2007 in West London, and put out two EPs in 2008, Love Your Ground and a self-titled effort, garnering interest from ticket holders in the U.K. and the U.S. as they opened concerts for Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn. Mumford & Sons’ debut studio album Sigh No More was released in late 2009 in the UK and early 2010 in the US, peaking at No. 2 on both the U.K. Albums and U.S. Billboard 200 charts, and selling over three million copies in the U.S. alone on the strength of hit singles “The Cave,” “Little Lion Man” and “Winter Winds.” They also earned two Grammy Award nominations, one for Best New Artist and the other for Best Rock Song for “Little Lion Man,” and won the Brit Award in 2011 for Best British Album. A worldwide headlining tour followed with the likes of Fanfarlo and The Middle East.

Fantastic show, fantastic bands (both of them). The Middle East is an up and comer. Mumford was insanely great. My only wish was to see them jam out more, but it was otherwise perfect. Really enjoyed every moment.

    Mumford & Sons are Incredible

by fingerfryer120v on 5/19/10Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

This band has been my favorite band since about a year and a half ago when one of my best friends at college showed them to me through knowing the lead singers family. Their passion and love of playing music, good music that provokes thought and spirit in both lyrics and melody, have made them my favorite band. I threw a pack of smokes on stage at the end as some form of gratification, hope they enjoy American Spirits. I have never sung so loud, clapped my hands and stomped my feet so hard in my life. The whole venue was in euphoria. Keep it comin boys, and we'll keep goin.

Like a Cult Addiction Mumford & Sons

by brooklynlovesmumford on 5/18/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I have seen them twice now, and each time the band gets a little bit tighter and the fans get a little more fanatical...but who can blame them. These guys play the hell out of their instruments, and work the crowd into a frenzy, Lyrics are amazing vocalist has voice that would make any woman weak.

Last Chance to See the Next Big Thing

by johndoesmusic on 5/18/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Heard Mumford for the first time on David Letterman (thank you Paul Schaefer). Had to go to three stores to find the album (the last place I tried had 1 copy, not 1 copy left, just 1 copy). I immediately put the album into heavy rotation. I checked their site and found out they would be touring...but playing in Brooklyn (ugh, I'm from Jersey and the show was on a Monday night). I had one friend willing to make the trek... Made the trip to Brooklyn and am unbelievably glad I did. What a great show. The pure energy and emotion given off by both the appreciative crowd and the equally appreciative band was AMAZING! The last time I felt this blown away and connected to a live performance was when Radiohead played at Liberty State Park with the Statue of Liberty and the Twin Towers as the back drop. Songs that were background on the CD took center stage along with the obvious hits. The band was incredibly gracious and dedicated to their performance (literally giving blood. sweat and tears). I expect the next time they tour the states it will be in bigger venues at a higher price. So get your tickets now because there is no looking back for this band. I regret not buying 10 tickets and making ALL of my more musically inclined friends join me for the adventure.

MUMFORD & SONS are best live band I've seen.

by Kekoa1989 on 5/17/10Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

These guys were amazing. The show is hard to describe, it was foot stomping, arm flailing, singing at the top of your voice amazing. They really connect with the audience and make their music deeply personal. it's an experience that's hard to describe. if you even remotely like Mumford and Sons, you have to see these guys live. Their stage 'banter' was hilarious they had no problem joking with the crowd, even calling a guy out for shaking his head when they wanted the crowd to stomp. They made jokes, told the crowd to F off (in a joking way), laughed, and laughed with the crowd. Their opening act was also great, I would suggest The Middle East to anyone who loves folk.

    A Natural High!!!

by Atlasromer on 5/17/10Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

Mumford & Sons were unbelievable. They bring the stage alive and their sound flows through you! A beautiful, unique, earthy sound that pumps you up and reminds you what real music is all about. I heard one man says as he walked down the street after the show, that is was a "religious experience." Yeah... They obviously enjoy what they do and their sincerity shines through with every word. Can't wait to see them again!!!!!

Keep an eye on these lads!

by Floradora207 on 5/17/10Theatre of Living Arts - Philadelphia

Spirit raising (and glass raising) party band with amazing lyrics, excellent vocals, great musicianship, fantastic energy and attitude and much audience support. Distinctive sound; hard to accomplish uniqueness in this era of sound-alikes. Buy your tickets NOW so you can say "I saw them when...". These guys won't be on the small-venue circuit for long.

This concert was freakin awesome. Mumford & sons is a very friendly and fun group, and they interacted with the crowd quite well. Plus, the loud bass and stomping of feet made the experience even more great.

Outstanding live show! Loved how they interacted with the crowd in an intimate setting!! Cover band was great as well, although the acoustics may have needed some work....but they did a great job remedying the situation for M&S!!! :)

    Son's not Daughter's

by JohnRockFan on 5/17/10Middle East - Cambridge

Guys, leave your girlfriends at home or in the car with the window cracked. How can anyone enjoy a great band like Mumford and Son's when your girlfriends find a concert hall the perfect place to discuss the dumbest things all night long. Overall the show was good. "Little lion Man" deserves to be a hit, it sounds better every time I hear it and was awesome live with everyone singing along. It was the best $15 I have spent on a concert since the 8o's.

    And the band played on....

by TiffLee on 5/17/10Middle East - Cambridge

I thought hell would freeze over before I would ever witness / hear shrieking worthy of the jonas brothers at the Middle East (well, at least at any show that I was going to see there...) but Mumford and Sons played on and put on an amazing show. My only real complaint (minus the shrieking while M&S played) was that the Middle East had issues with the speakers / acoustics during their opening act so (even minus the crowd's incessant chattering while they preformed) one couldn't really hear them sing over their music - which alone was wonderful, but having finally fixed the problem for the last few songs I wish I could have heard the first few as well.

The whole thing was absolutely awesome. Great mix of songs from the album and new music; these guys are totally genius. Their ability to play a mix of music, and mix of instruments, is phenomenal. Just hoping they come back to NYC again soon.

Mumford & Sons Plays with absolute passion

by DavePacc on 2/19/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

The powerful nature of a lot of Mumford & Sons songs made their performance just as enjoyable for someone who hasn't heard them at all. One gets absolutely sucked in by the passion with which these musicians play their instruments. They are absolutely spot on when it comes to technical ability and perfection of the live sound. This show was absolutely top shelf.
