Mt. Joy on Tour

A five-piece indie-rock band from Los Angeles, Mt. Joy is known to give an impressive show and fans are highly anticipating their tour, which will span the United States. The 2022 tour will bring the same immersive show that fans know and love. The band is known for their incredible live sound, as well as their mesmerizing use of lights and visual effects. The tour is in support of their third studio album, 2022's Orange Blood.

Mt. Joy Live in Concert

Mt. Joy is an indie rock band based in Los Angeles by way of Philadelphia. The band features Matt Quinn on vocals and guitar, Sam Cooper on guitar, Sotiris Eliopoulos on drums, Jackie Miclau on keyboards, and Michael Byrnes on bass. The band was formed in 2016, releasing their first single, "Astrovan," recorded in Los Angeles by Quinn, Cooper and Byrnes.

The two original band members, Quinn and Cooper, met in highschool in Philadelphia. After parting ways for some time, the two reunited in 2016 in Los Angeles and began working on music right away. The pair recorded their first single, "Astrovan," with the help of future bandmate Byrnes, who they met on Craigslist, and Byrnes' roommate, producer Caleb Nelson. In 2017, Mt. Joy signed with Dualtone Records. Later that year, they released their self-titled debut album. One of the songs from the album, "Silver Lining," peaked at No.1 on the Billboard Triple A charts.

Mt. Joy's third album, Orange Blood, was released in 2022 featuring the singles "Lemon Tree" (which made the Top 10 on AAA radio and was hailed as a "next-level song" by NPR); "Evergreen"' the title track from the album; and "Bathroom Light." The accompanying music video for "Evergreen" also features a cameo from Creed Bratton from "The Office."

"We put so much love into this album," said Quinn in an interview with uDiscover Music. "My dream for this record is that it gives people a chance to be present and connect with something outside of the daily doom scroll." Catch Mt. Joy when they come to a city near you.

Great, but lack of mask enforcement

by Courtney on 10/11/21The Anthem - Washington

The venue and the show was wonderful. Everything went seamlessly, especially with being able to verify vaccination/test results before lining up to enter the venue. However, I was in the second row and a lot of people in front were not wearing masks and were not told to put them back on. I just think if you’re going to require masks, that you should enforce the rule. Otherwise, The Anthem was a great experience, as it always is.

    Muddy Sound

by GD on 10/11/21The Anthem - Washington

Generally, there were a lot of positives. Getting in and out of The Anthem was well organized including the vaccination check. Lines for drinks were reasonable and the bartenders were great. Bathroom lines were short. My only complaint was the sound. Initially standing center stage about three quarters of the way to the back standing area and the sound control from the stage, the sound was bass heavy and muddy. Vocals were unclear including when the singer was talking between songs. We eventually moved to the very last row of standing in the slightly elevated section next to the rear bar and the sound there was very clear.

    Odd Pairing

by JulesnAlex on 10/11/21The Anthem - Washington

Trampled by Turtles put on a charming little set. I wish I’d known they were going to be the first to go on. I’d have shown up a little earlier. I didn’t like the Mt. Joy crowd and they hardly seemed interested in Trampled by Turtles. They weren’t chill at all, a bunch of frat boys and young girls in high wasted jeans. Left after Turtles.

Poor sound quality and disrespectful audience

by David on 10/11/21The Anthem - Washington

I have always enjoyed the Anthem because of the great acoustics, however, they had someone behind the soundboard this show that did not know what they were doing. The volume was cranked to distortion levels and the voices were garbled. In addition, a large majority of the crowd on the floor talked throughout the opening act, creating a constant din that competed with the music.

    Missed half the set

by Kirsten on 10/11/21The Anthem - Washington

I thought Trampled by Turtles were headlining when I bought tickets. I found out from a friend who works at the Anthem that they were actually opening, and that their set would start at 8pm, which is crazy early for a Friday night show! We got there at 7:50 and Trampled by Turtles was already on stage. Apparently they went on at 7:30, so we ended up missing half their set. I was so dissapointed! The info about who was headlining and set times was very poorly communicated and ruined the show for us.

    Awesome concert but ....

by That Guy on 10/11/21The Anthem - Washington

First sold out show in a long time. Lines were managed well and instructions on masks were given upon entry. Embarrassing how few people listened. Left with a lot of regret about going. Bands were awesome though

We went to see Trampled by Turtles and we’re surprised that TBT opened for Mt. Joy! Think it should be the other way around.

    Great Show + Great Venue

by CC on 8/18/21Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Its been a long time since I saw a live band that sounded that good and put out such great energy. I didn't see TBTurtles; but Mt. Joy was amazing; one of the few bands I might say sound even better live than recorded. Thanks guys.

    Love this band, great venue

    by S. A. on 2/2/20The Underground - Charlotte

Visiting friends in Charlotte we introduced them to this band and this venue. The underground is a fantastic venue to actually hear good music, and specifically a band like Mt Joy that features meaningful lyrics, amazing vocals and nuanced guitar. It was just the right fit.

by Arina on 11/11/19The Wiltern - Los Angeles

It was one of the best shows I have ever been too! After that, I know for sure that I will never miss their show ever again when they come to LA! The openers were as good as Mt.Joy, and I looooved the way they came out on the stage all together at the end , and finished the concert, I was almost crying! The show was amazing , and I recommend it to everyone who doubts going!
