  • Just not a good show!

by rh1717 on 8/25/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

First off, Paul & Billy are great musicians but just didn't come off as a band. Way too much jamming and solos. I like to see straight rock & roll. Play the songs and play them great which they definately did not. Just rock, these guys wanted to show how great they played individually. Solo after solo after solo, I think they may be still soloing and it's two days later. I can't stand when a band does this. If I wanted to see musicians solo, I would have gone to Steve Vai, Satch or even Dream Theater... Basically now I know why I didn't care for these guys in the 80's

  • Mr Big BB Kings Show

by MrBigRocks on 8/25/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Mr Big put on an incredible show this past Tuesday at BB Kings. The crowd was so into the band it was evident from the moment they hit the stage. The chemistry not just between Paul and Billy but between the whole band it was just incredible. The set list was fantastic and you could clearly tell the band was very happy to be playing NYC. They played for 2 hours and 20 minutes and covered pretty much their entire catalog of songs. The sound was incredibly tight and this show proves what a viable band Mr Big still is to this day!

  • Mr. Big was awesome!

by PaulGilbertFan on 8/23/11Harpos - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

If Paul Gilbert performs in your town, I totally recommend going to see him. He is one of the best guitar players in the world in my opinion. The stage was kind of high, and I was not impressed by the opening acts. But it was all worth enduring to see Mr. Big and hear Paul perform live. There was a moment when everyone switched instruments to play a cover of Smoke on the Water, and Paul played guitar with his teeth. If you have the option of seeing this band perform and you like great Rock musicianship, go!

  • Little crowd - Big Show!

by Mkovacs on 8/22/11Harpos - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Wow, what a great show, they play well past 11pm and hit all the classics, along with the little smoke on the water line-up switch. Paul was well....Paul. Sound was great, and the whole band played very tight, wish i'd seen them in cleveland as well.

  • Mr. Big - Outstanding Band - Terrible Venue

by Drewstunes on 8/22/11Harpos - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Mr. Big was awesome - Paul Gilbert (guitar) and Billy Sheehan (bass) are shredders that deserve way more recognition than they get. Go and see this band, you will not be disappointed - they sound as good or better than they did 20+ years ago. I just wish they played at a better venue - they deserve more...

  • Mr. Big is still amazing!

by HereWeGo on 8/22/11Harpos - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

It was so good to see these guys again after all these years!! They rocked it just as much as they did many years ago! The venue was a dive, but the band more than made up for it!!

  • mr. Big plays BIG!!!!!!!!!

    by bassplyr9 on 8/20/11Town Ballroom - BuffaloRating: 5 out of 5

Unbelievable show!!!!! From the opening notes to Billys' heartfelt acknowledgment of the crowd and what this show meant to him. I've seen them before and they've never sounded better. song after song they put on a clinic of what it means to be a rock and roll band. Incredible ability with your instruments but all the while remembering you're there for the fans. if any band ever epitomized underrated and under appreciated it's Mr. Big. I just wish the rest of America could realize what they're missing. I've been a card carrying member of the Mr. Big fan club since 1989 and not only did they not disappoint but they amazed me with how incredible and genuine they are. Billy, Eric, Paul, and Pat thank you for just one more night of memories.

  • MR.BIG did not disappoint!

    by gr210604 on 8/19/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first concert in a few years and I was very excited to see the original MR.BIG line-up. I had been a fan of Paul and Billy since their days in Racer X and Talas, respectively. As I left the Alrosa that night, I realized that I had just witnessed THE greatest rock concert that I had ever experienced. The opening acts Karma10 and Dirty Side Down were both good warm-up acts. Karma performed several covers and a few original tunes (which I always appreciate). DSD were more of a straight-forward cover band--lots of Metallica, Megadeth, Maiden, and the like. Lynch Mob gave us a somewhat lackluster performance, which was surprising considering the caliber of entertainer that George Lynch is. He never once made eye contact with the crowd, drummer was brand-new, and the vocalist often referred to the lyric book that he had hidden behind the monitors. Perhaps a few more months of practice and Lynch Mob will be back up to their former glory. MR.BIG performed for the small crowd as if we were in a sold-out arena. I've seen most of their 2009 Budokan video and they showed the same energy, regardless the size of the crowd. Their set list included everything from "Addicted to the Rush" to "Undertow" and even a little "Smoke on the Water." No one dared to leave after their final number, because they shortly came back for a five-number encore. My two teenage sons felt that this was one of the greatest nights of their lives. Shortly after the show, Billy and Eric came out into the parking lot and signed autographs, took pictures, and even passed out some candy because "the show was so long that our blood sugar may be a little low." Both of these guys are super nice and very down to earth. My son mentioned to Billy that this was his first concert and Billy immediately went into the memories of his first rock show, Jimi Hendrix. Overall, this show will never be forgotten and I truly cannot wait for these four excellent musicians to come back to Columbus, Ohio.

  • Mr. Big/Lynch Mob

by DruP on 8/19/11Alroosa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Let me get this out of the way, I love George Lynch! Having said that, this was not a good performance for Lynch Mob. Sad to say, but there were problems and I play in a band, so I understand some of them and I'm not mad or blaming, just saying, not a great show for Lynch Mob. Still a fan and I will see them again. Mr. Big...Amazing! Thank you guys for schooling us and making us question our own abilites to play our instruments! Can't wait to see you again.

  • by rwelk on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Lynch Mob - Terrible!! George will never see big stage again. I was in front row right in front of Lynch, and he never made eye contact with crowd. Drummer was brand new and vocalist was still so new that he had a lyrics book for every song. As soon as last note was played, George walked off stage. Mr. Big - Fantastic!!!!! Between master bassist Billy Sheehan and shredder Paul Gilbert, they could not have been more entertaining!! They continually played off each other and gave the kind of performance that should be in an arena. When show was over, Billy Sheehan was shaking people's hands thanking them for coming. Night and day difference between him and Lynch.

  • Mr Big played Big.

by TheGeneralColumbus on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

You know, I think these guys sell out in japan 15000 seat areans or more, and you would have thought they were playing for 15,000 people. Great singing, great playing, killer set of hits and high energy. Lynch Mob on the other stunk. Wow, I mean they were bad. Rumor has it they cut their set short by 6 songs and stormed off stage. Thank God Mr. Big made up for it.

  • Mr. Big Still Has It

by awamca on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This was a very small club setting. The local opening acts were just ok, really more of a distraction... I thought Mr. Big might be tempted to cut their show short, or maybe not really get into such a small club and crowd. Boy, was I wrong. These guys played hard, and put on a show worthy of the largest venues! I knew I would be blown away by the musicianship, but they are true professionals through and through. I drove 3 hours to see them, and would do it again. I wish they would add more dates to their schedule through the midwest.

  • Mr. Big : Lynch Mob

by OverAgedUnion on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Mr. Big was incredible and put on a fantastic show. Lynch Mob was unfortunately a different story. It was obvious George Lynch was in a bad mood and really didn't want to be there. His guitar work was exceptional but it seemed like he wasn't happy with the rest of the band, so the show suffered. The Alrosa is a great venue to see live bands, but for bands of this caliber, a larger venue, or one with actual seating would have been better. Between standing in line to get in, and standing the entire night for the concert, we were on our feet for six hours.

  • Mr. Big+Lynchmob = Great Night

by CincyMetalgal on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This was great show from beginning to end. Even before Lynch Mob came to the stage Dirty Side Down did a great job getting the crowd warmed up. Would highly recommend if your in the Columbus, OH area. Lynch Mob put on a really good performance, George has still got it. Mr. Big did not dissapoint, playing for 2 -2/12 hours. Well worth the trip from Cincy. What an amazing opportunity to see some of the most talented musicians in a small venue.

  • Great Show

by RobRockitt on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Mr. Big played for over 2 hours Saturday night at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. They played an amazing show, with one of the best encores I have seen in quite some time.

  • Mr. Big blew us all away!

by mrrush on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Lynch Mob had issues with their new drummer and the sound set-up (drummer was off time on intro's and the sound set up sucks badly) and George Lynch appeared mad from the get go, in fact, the rest of the band appeared to be afraid of him, no chemistry with them at all, sound was disappointing at best...then Mr. Big came on and blew us all away! Mr. Big more than made up for the below average performance by Lynch Mob...I'd see Mr. Big again, but hope not with Lynch Mob, the 2 local opening bands did a better job performing than Lynch Mob did!

  • Mr. Big gets 5+ Stars

by Tajtday on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I didn't know if I would be patient enough to get through 3 opening acts to see one of my all time favorite bands, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear some great music before the headliners. Lynch Mob played some really good songs, including quite a few Dokken classics and they sounded great. The Mr. Big set was nothing less than incredible! All original members are still in the band. Although Billy Sheehan (bass) and Paul Gilbert (guitar) are some of the biggest names in rock music, Eric Martin (vocals) and Pat Torpey (drums) are also extremely gifted musicians. Together, these guys are magic! You could tell that they were enjoying each moment of their performance, almost as much as their fans were. They played for over two hours from a set list that included all of my old favorites as well as some great songs from their 2011 "What If" album. I can only hope that they continue writing and playing live music! The world is in short supply of music this amazing. Definitely one of my musical highlights of the year, make that decade!

  • Stay for the encore - or you'll be sorry.

by gtrwannabe on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Mr Big put on a show you won't forget. Even if you aren't familiar with their music, watching these extremely talented musicians perform flawlessly while having a good time is a lot of fun. Besides that, how many times in your life can you say you are in the presence of greatness? This is one of those times - Don't miss Mr. Big! And stay for the encore, I'm not going to spoil it, but I'll just say Chinese Fire Drill. Lynch Mob played well - very well considering that half of the band members weren't even in the band three weeks before the show. George Lynch is still a hell of a guitarist, but it looked like he truly hated every note that he played. It was hard watching a hero doing what I always admired, but seeing that it seemed to bring him no joy at all.

  • I'm a Mr. Big convert...

    by RazorX67 on 8/15/11Alrosa Villa - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I actually went to this show primarily to see Lynch Mob. I've been a George Lynch fan since he first hit the scene and have seen him live five times (four with Dokken and once with Lynch Mob) before this show. I have to say this was the worst performance of the lot. The band didn't play very long (perhaps through no fault of their own) and seemed to be going through the motions. Lynch was off as well which is the fist time I've witnessed that. He was the highlight of the show each of the other five times I saw him. I guess everyone can have an off night but I was pretty stunned when he fumbled through the intro to one song and just flat out sounded bad. I have never really been much of a Mr. Big fan. I have always respected Gilbert but haven't really been a huge fan. I also respect Sheehan and consider him one of the best bassists in rock - and the best I had ever seen live (saw him on the Eat em and Smile tour). My expectations were still somewhat high going into this show based on what I know about the musicians in the band and they were completely blown out of the water. In all honestly, I'm still not a huge fan of Mr. Big's music but I have to admit this was one of the best rock concerts I have ever seen. This band is not just a group of phenomenal musicians but are also a great live act. They tore it up Saturday night. Not having followed Mr. Big over the years I was completely surprised when they swapped instruments (twice) for their rendition of Smoke on the Water. Gilbert is actually a pretty decent drummer and Sheehan tore up the solos. I thought about dropping the overall rating to 4 stars based on how disappointed I was in Lynch Mob but decided to keep it at 5 simply because Mr. Big was so freaking good. One of the opening acts (Dirty Side Down) was pretty good as well. I wasn't too crazy about the lead singer - although he did a great job on "Queen of the Reich" but the guitarists were pretty good. I also like the one guitarists natural series Charvel SD. Oiled mahogany? Very nice...
