  • Mr. Big Well Worth the wait

by NunYoBusiness on 8/26/11Showcase Live - FoxboroRating: 5 out of 5

The last time Mr. Big toured the U.S. with the original line-up was way back in 1996 (or around there let's just say it's been a loooong time coming). The wait was well worth it an almost 2 and a half hour show went down quick and flawlessly. The show started with the opening act the Dirty Pearls who played a slow building set who by the end were well accepted by the crowd. If you get a chance check out some of their music on iTunes. Mr Big took the stage just before 9 p.m. and ripped into "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)" right from the start everyone in the audience were singing right along to all the songs even ones from CD's I didn't think most people owned. It's the first time in a long time that when a band started playing a new song that the audience didn't sit on their hands. People in the audience sang along with the new tunes as well. All the great songs were played they included (this is just a small list of the 19 or 20 songs they played) Green-Tinted Sixties Mind, Alive & Kickin', Take Cover, Just Take My Heart, Road To Ruin, Price You Gotta Pay, To Be With You, Colorado Bulldog, Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple cover), Shy Boy (Talas Cover). The show was over way to soon (about 2 hours and 20 minutes plus a 30 minute set by the Dirty Pearls). Well worth the $25 ticket price. One final thing if they are in your area do yourself a favor GO SEE THEM!!!!!! Oh yeah, While waiting for the show Eric Martin walked right by the entire line and I was the only one who knew who he was, see it's been way to long since they have toured the states.

  • Rocked my face off

by DJKatG on 8/26/11Showcase Live - FoxboroRating: 5 out of 5

A friend of mine saw Mr. Big a week ago in Buffalo. When he head I was going to the show in Foxboro, he warned: "Get ready to get your face rocked off." I took it with a grain of salt, but boy, was he right on the money! I'm not a huge Mr. Big fan, or wasn't, but love their music and I love the Showcase Live venue. I asked another friend to come along with me and we were both blown away! Billie is the best bass player I have EVER seen, and that is saying a lot as I go to live shows often. The boys still have it, they authentically love what they are doing and it all came out in pure, hard, in your face rock n roll and blues. I can't wait to see them again!

  • AMAZING SHOW GENTLEMEN!

by Kklusk on 8/26/11Showcase Live - FoxboroRating: 5 out of 5

I admit this was my first time seeing this band. And I am regretting not having seen them "back in the day". This is one amazingly talented band. Wednesday's show at Showcase Live in Foxboro was very easily one of the top 1,2,3 shows I have ever seen in my 45 years. I knew Billy was the man from his DLR days, saw him with DLR at what was then Great Woods, back in the day. But my GOD, Paul, Pat and Eric are equally as impressive. Just 100% class all the way. This is how it's done, world. Inspiring Rock and Roll acts need look no further for a model. The music scene has sorely missed their soulful, jazz/funk inspired Rock and Roll, and the class with which this band handles themselves. I am so glad to hear melodic rock and roll for a change. And you know something? Their stage energy and obvious LOVE for their respective crafts was easily transferred to the crowd. I loved seeing them in the setting of Showcase Live, you could actually see the band and interact on a much more personal level. I would have thought Mohegan Sun Arena for a band like that. Still think they could fill that venue. But I am thankful I got to see them in that small type of setting. And I hope, hope, hope, they come back. I look forward to seeing them again to see how they top this. And I must say the switch of personnel during "Smoke on the Water" was nothing short of jaw-dropping. Paul Gilbert, brother, I am a drummer of 35 years, and I don't think you hit a rim, or missed a fill. Well done, lad, well done. All around HUGE kudos to the band, and to Showcase Live. Keep on keepin on boys, "see you when I get out!"

Mr Big was incredible. The talent on that stage was insane. Showcase Live is the best Venue in New England right now.

  • Wish the sound was better...

by BradFactor on 8/26/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Great to see the boys enjoying themselves on stage like the old days. The performance was as solid as I expected - great technical execution. Big problem - the sound was terribly unbalanced. I was standing literally in front of Paul and all I could hear was bass. I tried to get his attention to ask him to turn up but he was busy playing to the upper deck of the Buddokan and didn't see me. Too bad.

  • Awesome fun

by evilsugar25 on 8/25/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Virtuosos on their respective instruments, guitarist Paul Gilbert and bassist Billy Sheehan drove an excellent all-around, fun, 2+ hour show. SInger Eric Martin sounded great, everyone looked like they were super-happy to be there, and it was just a high-energy excellent show. Go see these guys.

by Hvymtl65 on 8/25/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

From old to new the band never sounded better. The new album absolutely rocks and they played a bunch from that cd. Billy and Paul were up to all their virtuoso. Eric's voice was great and Pat on drums was in perfect time.

  • AMAZING!

  • A band of bands!

by donniemunk on 8/25/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This is the most talented group of musicians/singers I have ever heard live and I am 59 years old and have seen everyone that is good! Drummer: Great, Singer :Great, and then there are the giants among giants.....Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert!!! It doesn't get better than these two ! They play as well as anyone in the world and sing great harmony and are at ease with either doing solos or blending in as a band member. That is what was key for me. These guys could do a G3 type thing and turn around and do a band thing also. They are just great musicians! BB King Blues Club is one of my favorite venues to hear bands as it is intimate yet the NY City Crowds really rock and support the bands there! The Mr. Big show was the best show I've seen there in 10 years. Mr. Big is back together and playing better than ever. They look as if they are really enjoying themselves this time around. Played close to 3 hours. Don't miss this band! You will not hear better players anywhere! And 4 part harmony (flawless) is great to hear also. Picture the eagles vocals and muscianship that is 100 times better than the eagles! Don't miss'em! Hope they stay together!

Awesome concert. The band is really friendly and into the crowd. They played for long and that is really appreciated (and now seldom seen).

Classic rock'n roll with superior guitar and bass and surprisingly amazing background vocals.

  • by MrBigFan on 8/25/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

They were amazing as usual. However I was disappointed with the sound quality of the room at BB Kings. Vox way too treble and no bottom end.

  • Mr. Big is incredible.

by AnthonyRyan on 8/25/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Most people know Mr. Big for that one ballad that was inescapable on the radio years ago. What they don't know is that Mr. Big is comprised of some of the best musicians ever to live. Guitarist Paul Gilbert and bassist Billy Sheehan really shred, drummer Pat Torpey effortlessly keeps the beat while displaying his technical prowess, and singer Eric Martin, while age has shortened his range, still can belt it out with the best. Eric has an incredible voice that's so soothing yet so rocking at the same time. It truly feels like they're all having fun out there - and the crowd interaction was wonderful. They ripped through a lot of their notable songs including many from the new album, What If. "To Be With You" was definitely the anthem of the night, but Addicted to that Rush was amazing, and the encore is so amusing with them switching instruments. BB King's venue is pretty neat - underground in New York City. Standing room only always is tough for the vertically challenged, but I was able to be a few rows of people from the action. You just gotta get there a little early, and establish a position away from the Tall Persons Club. They're all so good at their instruments, I almost quit music right on the spot. If you're a fan of Mr Big, then you will not be disappointed. If you're unfamiliar with their music, you will at least be able to appreciate the dynamic melodies, spot on harmonies, and incredible musicianship of the band. They're definitely worth seeing once in your life.
